What is presented below is part of an investigation entitled “The potential of secular education in primary school” (2010, ISCEEM, Toluca, Mexico) based on the theory of the new cultural paradigm of Alain Touraine, as well as contributions of the main representatives of secularism such as Henri Peña, Jean Bauberot and Roberto Blancarte. For this article some reflections are presented regarding the theme of secularism in Mexican public education, its meaning, its interpretations, the cultural battles around it and, above all, its potentialities in citizen education in basic education. Its objective is to address the five most relevant aspects that secular training can provide and that, by far, exceed the benefits that any clericalism could grant in public education. It is concluded that said secularism promotes equality and the common good that are also the basis of democracy; In add...

The author rejects clericalism both in its ecclesiastical version as in the new civil version: both clericalisms forget that religious freedom is, above all, a citizer's fundamental right but that they leave it to the ocasional outline of the relationship between Church and State. He, therefore, delves deeper into the concept of “positive secularism” proposed by the Spanish Constitutional Court.

This article explores two grammatical characteristics, metonymy and metaphor, in relation to two central themes: the melancholy of death and solidarity between men, as they appear and work together in César Vallejo’s poetry. I propose that in Vallejo’s poetics there is a cooperation between metaphor and metonymy, in the sense that the metonymic connection between linguistic elements works in the poetry as a system that metaphorises the world as a totality of connections in flux. This article suggests that these systems of interconnection and interdependence —both linguistic and physical— are very similar to the scientificophilosophical (that is, Epicurean) system of Lucretius’s De Rerum Natura. This comparison, I conclude, is important for a renewed comprehension of the political and secular worldview of solidarity as it appears in Vallejo’s work.

This article presents the melodic formats of several Spanish songs adapted to the Asháninka language for the learning of the native language in EIB schools. The objective of this study is to use the melodic format of Spanish songs adapting the cultural contents of flora and fauna, real and unreal ideas in the Asháninka language. The method applied is ethnographic and the methodology used is descriptive because it will describe in a simple and systematic way the Spanish songs adapted to the Asháninka language. The result of this study is the finding of secular and sacred melodic formats used by teachers to teach the Asháninka language as a pedagogical strategy for teaching classes. In conclusion, the melodic formats adapted by the bilingual teacher are relevant for teaching the Asháninka language as a teaching strategy to revalue the language, culture and strengthen their identity.

Historically, secular humanism has been in conflict with religious thought in the academic and social spheres. This article supports the thesis that in modern times pseudosciences and pseudoscientific thinking are a threat to the humanist project, comparable to religious fundamentalism. To prove it, the concept of Secular Humanism and how it is threatened by religious fundamentalism is explained. This is followed by the definition of what pseudosciences are and what pseudoscientific thinking is. Subsequently, the way how pseudosciences threaten the secular humanist project is described. The conclusion states that pseudoscientific thought and religious fundamentalism are equally dangerous for social coexistence.

This article presents the way religious catholic people get involved in the protection of the ecosystem of the Jaen Vicariate, entrusted to the Company of Jesus. Peasants of the zone, who are migrants from the mountains regions, exploit their new habitat according to their ancestors’ traditions shaped in different context. These agricultural methods are inserted in an enchanted worldview. Religious people to encouragepractices respectful of the environment fight against harmful beliefs and promote a rational and scientific comprehension of the situation, a secularized one. Nonetheless, their initiative is not fully successful. It is very difficult to deal with one aspect of a worldview and change it. Besides, peasants, who often experience great necessities, have assimilated the logic and the expectations of the consumer socie...

This article analyzes how the Russian State, through religious nationalism and the doctrine of Russkiy Mir, constructs a political project that articulates sovereignty, identity, and moral order through the sacralization of State power. Using a critical discourse analysis of official, religious, and media sources, it examines the practices and narratives that produce a patriotic subjectivity based on fear, loyalty, and obedience. The results show that this alliance between the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church legitimizes political actions, such as the war in Ukraine, under a spiritual rhetoric that strengthens social cohesion and consolidates an exclusive moral community. It is concluded that Russkiy Mir represents a post-secular form of modernity that employs the sacred as a technology of power to offer a political model alternative to secular liberalism.

The purpose of this research was to compare the hierarchy of values among high school students, according to type of school (religious and secular) and sex. The sample was composed by 250 high school students (60.4% male, 52% religious school). The ages are in the range of 14 to 17 years (M = 15.47, SD = 0.63). The instrument used was the Portrait Value Questionnaire by Schwartz (2001), whose analysis of structure and internal consistency was satisfactory. To compare the hierarchy of values between the groups, top down correlations (rtd >) were used. According to the results, greater association (similarity) was found between the hierarchy of values depending on the type of school (rtd = .82) and, to a lesser degree by sex (rtd = .69). The comparative results show greater Benevolence, Self-Direction, Stimulation among women and Achievement among men. The implications of the comparativ...

This article analyzes training workshops against gender-based violence in Brazil and Mexico as spaces that produce an inner-worldly secular spirituality, examining their rituals, processes of moral conversion, and the elaboration of a specific emotional interiority. The research is based on an ethnography that accompanied facilitators, activists, and professionals from the psychosocial and legal fields, using participant observation and discourse analysis. The findings reveal that these workshops function as secular rituals in which empathy is sacralized as a redeeming emotion, testimony enables the transformation from “victims” into “survivors,” and a moral dualism is established between “human agency” (good) and “oppressive structures” (evil). Furthermore, a structural symmetry is identified between the conversion logic of these spaces and the global expansion of Pentec...

The present text has as objective to do an anthropological lecture of a character in principle of fiction, Braschi, of the last novel, unfinished, by Jose Maria Arguedas (†1969), The fox from up above and the fox from down below (1971), but that is sustained, in the vision of the novelist, in a real character, Luis Banchero Rossi (†1972), distinguished peruvian businessman of the fish industry. The character that Arguedas conceives and draws, since his liberating political presupposed, it is a execration that attempts against nature and humanity, against life and morality; it is the evil encarnate, a falsifier, a liberator feigned; finally, a caricature of the Che Guevara –representation that contrasts paradoxically with the mystified reading that some populars sectors in Lima do in the present when they visit the Banchero’s tomb and they ask him miracles and favors like to a sai...

In 1911, Eloy Fariña Núñez published in Buenos Aires the long poem Canto secular to commemorate the centenary of Paraguay’s independence. The work displays a modernist stamp, but it also involves some features of Arielism, a Latin American political philosophy that brought youth to the fore and recognized a double American and Greco-Latin cultural ancestry. This article proposes an intertextual and interdiscursive approach to Canto secular, in order to discover in the poem a literary operation of foundation of an enunciative locus where two spatiotemporal coordinates, both literary recreated, overlap: the peasant Paraguay in the transition towards urbanity, and classical antiquity synthesized in some legal values and models.
