En este capítulo, presentamos las conclusiones de un proyecto de investigación financiado por la Jack Shand Research Grant de 2019 a 2020 en el entorno del EP Piura. Entrevistamos a autoridades locales (director y encargados de seguridad), psicólogos, abogados y doce presos —entre ellos, cinco miembros de la Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía (IDP) y siete reos que no son miembros de iglesias pentecostales—. La observación participante en servicios religiosos, tanto católicos como evangélicos, nos permitió mantener conversaciones casuales, a menudo más reveladoras que las entrevistas formales. Fuera de la cárcel, también entrevistamos a pastores, líderes y expresos, así como a seis mujeres familiares de presos y expresos. En conjunto, entrevistamos a un total de treinta personas.

This article presents the way religious catholic people get involved in the protection of the ecosystem of the Jaen Vicariate, entrusted to the Company of Jesus. Peasants of the zone, who are migrants from the mountains regions, exploit their new habitat according to their ancestors’ traditions shaped in different context. These agricultural methods are inserted in an enchanted worldview. Religious people to encouragepractices respectful of the environment fight against harmful beliefs and promote a rational and scientific comprehension of the situation, a secularized one. Nonetheless, their initiative is not fully successful. It is very difficult to deal with one aspect of a worldview and change it.
