Objective: To determine prevalence of painful asymptomatic peripheral neuropathy (PN) in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and its associated characteristics. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study performed in patients belonging to the program ‘Feet at risk’ at the Endocrinology Service in Maria Auxiliadora National Hospital. Patients with DM2 who were seen between 2015 and 2020 were included. The definition of PN is according to Toronto Consensus, considering the evaluation of three components: symptoms, signs and Achilles reflex, determining certainty as possible and probable, according to the combinations found. For assessing symptoms, the total symptom score (TTS) was used; for signs, monofilament test was used, and vibration sensitivity was assessed using a 128-Hz tuning fork. Prevalence of PN was calculated according to symptoms and certai...

There is much expectation on the introduction of prophylactic vaccines against human papilloma virus specifically against 16 and 18 oncogenic type, as theoretically would permit to prevent approximatelly 70% of uterine cervical cancer in the world. The vaccine has been approved in some countries and there is the intention to introduce it in the national programs of immunizations. For example, some states of the United States of North America are considering vaccination obligatory in girls in school age. The objective of this chapter is to determine the effect vaccination would have in uterine cervical cancer screening. For such we need to review the natural history of HPV infection by cervical neoplasia.

Background: Few studies have explored a stepped care model for delivering mental health care to persons with tuberculosis (TB). Here, we evaluated depression screening and remote lowintensity mental health interventions for persons initiating TB treatment in Lima, Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) to screen participants for depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 ≥ 5). Participants with PHQ-9, 5–14 received remote Psychological First Aid (PFA) or Problem Management Plus (PM+). Participants were reevaluated 6 months after intervention completion. Wethen compared the change in median PHQ-9 scores before and after intervention completion. Those with PHQ-9 ≥ 15 were referred to higherlevel care. Findings: We found that 62 (45.9%) of the 135 participants had PHQ-9 ≥ 5 at baseline. Then, 54 individuals with PHQ-9, 5–9 received PFA, of w...

The aim of this study was to develop a high acceptability mixed nectar and low cost. To obtain the nectar mixed considered different amounts of passion fruit, sweet pepino, sucrose, and completing 100% with water, following a two-stage design: screening (using a design of type 23 + 4 center points) and optimization (using a design of type 22 + 2*2 + 4 center points); stages that allow explore a high acceptability formulation. Then we used the technique of Linear Programming to minimize the cost of high acceptability nectar. Result of this process was obtained a mixed nectar optimal acceptability (score of 7), when the formulation is between 9 and 14% of passion fruit, 4 and 5% of sucrose, 73.5% of sweet pepino juice and filling with water to the 100%. Linear Programming possible reduced the cost of nectar mixed with optimal acceptability at S/.174 for a production of 1000 L/day.

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a tool applied ever more frequently in developed countries to take on board environmental impacts in a timely way so asto impact on decision making. lt is applied mainly to megaprojects, plans, programs and policies, even though there is as yet no consensus agreement as to its definition, its methodologies or the steps required to implement it. SEA is not just an Environmental lmpact Assessment (EIA) of plans, programs and policies, since this is an instrument for which there is considerable experience and consensus as to its use, with steps such as screening and scoping of projects performed by specialists worldwide. In Peru, the EIA is normally considered to be a document that is evaluated by the environmental authority where a project is to be undertaken to ensure that it does no significant harm to the environment. In developed countries, b...
