This paper presents estimates of the discard excess catch in the industrial purse seine fisheries of the North-Center stock of the Peruvian anchoveta (Engraulis ringens). Discard excess catch is defined as the portion of the catch that is thrown into the sea when has captured more than the hold capacity can store. The analysis is based on the “On-board observer of the purse seine vessels program” led by the Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE), and in the period 2005 – 2014, 5837 trips were sampled, corresponding to 1.6% of the total trips. The methodologies used in the discard excess catch estimation were: Generalized Linear Model (GLM) and Delta Model. The estimations showed difference in magnitudes but similar trends, although the delta model appears to be a better alternative procedure for estimating the discard excess catch. The Delta Model estimated the purse seine fisheries d...

Noncommunicable Chronic Diseases (CNCD) are long-term conditions and their evolution is slow. Currently the number of cases is on the rise and represent the leading cause of death worldwide. The treatments are usually complex and if the population does not begin to take responsibility, taking into account the healthy habits, the consequences will be greater for the health systems. For this reason, a program based on the Primary Health Care approach was prepared, submitted to expert analysis and a pretest-posttest design research was established in the municipalities located in the Toluca Valley, in the center of the country with 188 patients with CNCD.

Background: Based on the characterization of harmful behaviors, understood as preventing others the fulfillment of their behavioral criterion. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different harm distributions and amounts regarding the choice of harming others or not. Method: An A-B design was used with a baseline and an experimental phase. Thirty-five (35) higher education students participated in the study. They were selected through a non-probability convenience sampling and randomly assigned to one of the seven study groups or a control group. Such study groups differed from each other by the type of harm distribution –i.e., received or observed– and the number of harm notifications –i.e., 1, 5 and 15–. The task was to solve arithmetic operations wherein the participation of three students was simulated. Said simulated students’ role could be to harm or be ...

The social programs to combat poverty have been under permanent observation both by the beneficiaries of these programs and by the criticism they received for the political use that was given to them. Two major issues aroused interest in the study of these programs. First, because, despite the investment from the public treasury and the contributions from international cooperation for the strategy to combat poverty, the problems that persisted showed the poor focus of the investment, the loss of objectives, the leaking of aid and the dispersion of the programs, in addition to the serious problems of administration of the resources. Second, because reelectionist political campaigns were associated with the intensification and expansion of food support for urban and rural populations.

the purpose of this research study was to determine whether implementing a motivation program could lead to a reduction in the rate of occupational accidents in the bakery plant of a manufacturing company based in Lima. The study followed a quasi-experimental approach and used a pretest/posttest design with a single group and a sample of 117 workers. The data collection methods included statistical data on work-related accidents, direct observations in the workplace, recording and monitoring of interactions, and a motivation questionnaire. The research results revealed that implementing the IPLEFOR motivation program—which spanned 21 months—led to a 100% reduction in the accident rate. Consequently, it led to a significant improvement in the occupational health and safety system.
