Purpose – This study aims to use gray models to predict abnormal stock returns. Design/methodology/approach – Data are collected from listed companies in the Tehran Stock Exchange during 2005-2015. The analyses portray three models, namely, the gray model, the nonlinear gray Bernoulli model and the Nash nonlinear gray Bernoulli model. Findings – Results show that the Nash nonlinear gray Bernoulli model can predict abnormal stock returns that are defined by conditions other than gray models which predict increases, and then after checking regression models, the Bernoulli regression model is defined, which gives higher accuracy and fewer errors than the other two models. Originality/value – The stock market is one of the most important markets, which is influenced by several factors. Thus, accurate and reliable techniques are necessary to help investors and consumers find detailed ...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth curves for males and females in the Catalan goat population using different non lineal models (Logistic, von Bertalanffy and Gompertz). The models were applied to the study of body weight of 77 animals (21 males and 56 females of various ages). Fitness was different for each model where the logistic model was the best for males and the von Bertalanffy for females. Still, the logistic model tends to overestimate the initial weight of the animals.

The present research work consists in the development of a method where a mathematical model of a fish canning plant installation project is proposed, considering the investment, the production costs, the operating expenses, the financial statements, and as indicators for decision making, the net financial present value and internal rate of financial return. Then, the mathematical model is optimized using a non-linear programming to choose the most convenient investment alternative, then a Monte Carlo simulation is carried out in which random variables of plant and market are considered that allow the investor to estimate the minimum values and máximum that can happen in the financial indicators and finally the discussion of results.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the non-linear Gompertz, logistic, Von Bertalanffi and Richards models to find the model that best describes the growth of early culling guinea pigs. The research was carried out in a commercial farm of Peru breed guinea pigs located in the province of Huaura, Peru. Ten males and 12 females were used, which were periodically weighed from birth to 69 days. The feeding was basically with green fodder. The degree of adjustment of the non-linear models of the weight and age of the animals was evaluated through the mean square of the error (CME) and the Akaike (AIC) and Bayesian (BIC) criteria. The logistic non-linear model was the one that best described the growth of the guinea pigs fed with green forage and allowed the elaboration of the growth standard for early culling.

This master thesis is dedicated to the design and simulation of a model following controller for a quadrotor underactuated system. First, the quadrotor is modeled as a nonlinear Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) system in affine form with four inputs (torques and thrust) and for outputs (three axis position and yaw angle). This was made by kinematics and Newton-Euler dynamics formulation. For the design, the model following control is composed by a Model Control Loop (MCL) where an idealized nominal plant model is considered. In this stage the special case of dynamic extension for MIMO systems is considered to obtain the decoupling matrix nonsingular and achieve full relative degree, then the augmented system is transformed in a Byrnes-Isidori-form so feedback linearization technique with state feedback gain can be applied for a reference trajectory. Hence, a second controller that operate...

This study investigates market dynamics using a discrete economic model of supply and demand. Initially, the linear case with naïve or static expectations is analyzed, and the stability conditions that lead to different system behaviors, such as convergence to equilibrium, periodic oscillations, or divergence, are determined analytically through the study of fixed points and cobweb dynamics. Subsequently, the analysis is extended to the nonlinear case with adaptive expectations, where the interaction between supply nonlinearity and the expectation formation process is found to generate complex behaviors. The results show how variations in the nonlinearity parameter induce bifurcations observable in time series. The study provides a comprehensive analytical framework that links mathematical properties with observable economic phenomena, offering tools to predict and manage stability in r...

In this work, we present a nonlinear model of a beam of finite length, which describes the longitudinal and cross - sectional displacements, being this last phenomenon affected by gradients of temperature. We demonstrate that the system is well- posed in the sensE of Hadamardfor strong solutions.

This thesis proposes a novel approach for a nonlinear adaptive observer design applied to a reverse osmosis desalination plant. The considered mathematical model of the de- salination system includes nonlinearities of the states and the parameters that cannot be handled with previously published estimation methods which are based on the mod- ulating function technique. Therefore, the proposed real-time capable approach uses a decoupled parameter estimator and state observer. These estimates can be utilized for developing a controller or a fault detection system of the desalination plant with the aim of improving the quality and effort of fresh water production. The parameter estimator is composed of a convolution filter with modulating func- tions and the common Extended Kalman-Bucy Filter in order to estimate nonlinear parameters of a state-linear input/output relation. To receive a reg...

This paper with the problem of parameter identification and trajectory tracking of a nonlinear electro-mechanical system, which consists of a DC motor that drives a nonlinear load that resembles a one-degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator. The system presents two types of nonlinearity; one of a discontinuous nature, due to static and Coulomb frictions, and the other continuous, due to non-linear loading. Only the angular position of the nonlinear load is available for feedback purposes. Static and Coulomb frictions are modeled and compensated using a nonlinear compensation scheme that depends on the speed of the load. The unknown parameters of the nonlinear compensating and unloaded system are identified open loop in the frequency domain using Feedback Linearization. Finally, the implementation of the designed control system is presented, together with its experimental results, which are...

This work investigates the Feasible Direction Algorithm using interior points applied to the Mixed Nonlinear Complementarity Problem and some applications. This algorithm is based in Feasible Directions Algorithm for Nonlinear Complementarity Problem, which is described briefly. The proposed algorithm is important because many mathematical models can be written as mixed nonlinear complementarity problem. The principal idea of this algorithm is to generate, at each iteration, a sequence of feasible directions with respect to the region, defined by the inequality conditions, which are also monotonic descent directions for one potential function. Then, an approximate line search along this direction is performed in order to define the next iteration. Global and asymptotic convergence properties for the algorithm are proved. In order to validade the robustness the algorithm is tested on seve...
