It is often attributed to Aquinas the thesis that existence, unlike essence, cannot be the object of conceptualization. Arguably, without a concept of existence, Aquinas offers an interpretation of existential propositions which closely resemble the modern analytic analysis. Accordingly, when wesay ‘P exists’, we attribute no property or special attribute to P. The purpose of this article is to show that for Thomas Aquinas, existence, like essence, can be the object of conceptualization nd functions as a real predicate. To that end, I base myself on Aquinas’ theory of signification.

Se presentan los primeros datos sobre las emisiones acústicas del murciélago longirrostro peruano Platalina genovensium, siendo este el primer estudio que se publica sobre análisis de los ultrasonidos emitidos por murciélagos en el Perú. Las emisiones acústicas analizadas fueron grabadas de individuos volando en condiciones de confinamiento dentro de sus propios refugios, en dos localidades relativamente próximas a la ciudad de Lima. La señal acústica de P. genovensium está compuesta por pulsos de 1,30 ms de duración media, en frecuencia modulada, de niveles sonoros extremadamente bajos (aprox. -10 a -35 dB a 1 m de distancia), en secuencias de 12,90 pulsos/segundo, con ancho de banda promedio de 28,58 kHz, discontinuo, con interpulso promedio de 67,56 ms y con máxima energía en 89,21 kHz. Euryoryzomys macconnelli (Thomas, 1910) es un roedor oryzomino ampliamente distribuido en la Amazonía. Actualmente, es reconocida como una especie monotípica. Sin embargo, estudios previos basados en evidencia morfológica, cariotípica y molecular sugirieron que este taxón podría tratarse de un complejo de especies. No obstante, se requería mayor investigación. En el presente estudio, se evidencia que E. macconnelli es un complejo de especies y, de manera principal, que la población distribuida hacia el margen oriental del río Ucayali y en las regiones centrales del curso superior e inferior del río Juruá es una entidad taxonómica distinta de E. macconnelli sensu stricto. Este ensayo sobre Karl Popper y Thomas S. Kuhn, presenta algunas consideraciones epistemológicas fundamentales de las tesis expuestas por ambos autores como filósofos de la ciencia. Para su desarrollo, además de las obras que se anotan en la bibliografía, han sido tomados como textos de consulta principales las obras de I. Lakatos y A. Musgrave, La Crítica y el Desarrollo del Conocimiento y de Harold I. Brown, La Nueva Filosofía de la Ciencia. El contenido de este ensayo filosófico consta de cuatro partes: la primera trata la historia, el significado y los representantes del Positivismo y del Empirismo lógicos. Luego, la segunda y tercera partes exponen las tesis o conceptualizaciones epistemológicas de Popper y Kuhn, vale decir falsabilidad y revoluciones científicas, respectivamente. In the present work I propose that the epistemological positions of Thomas Aquinas and Francisco Suárez can be conceived as complementary insofar as we clarify how knowledge is formed for each one. In the first place, it is necessary to examine the principle of individuation in relation to abstraction in Aquinas. Second, the differences around the same issue are analyzed in Suárez. Finally, both positions are compared to establish two theories that can be conceived as two aspects that complete the same process of our knowledge and can form the basis of a laterepistemology in favor of the knowledge of reality.

In this article I propose that the notions of being and essence according to Aquinas and Suárez are different ways of conceiving the contingency of entities, but not mutually exclusive conceptions. On the contrary, I consider that, Aquinas by putting the emphasis of being on the extramental while Suárez on the intelligible, push us to find a common ground to avoid the extremes of naïve realism and idealism. First, I analyze the notions of potency and act in Aquinas and Suárez. Second, I develop its impact on the distinction between being and essence. Finally, I compare both metaphysics to better delimit our consideration of the real, both in the extramental and conceptual spheres.

This article starts from the recognition of epistemic valuation standards in scientific researchpractices, both in the stage of normal science and in the stage of scientific revolution according toThomas Kuhn, showing not only relations of axioms, methods and technics, but also relations ofobjectives, interests and values. Intervening epistemic values are classified and studied in orderto set their corresponding justification based on Kuhn’s epistemological considerations, whopresents the values within the context of evaluation and selection of the best scientific theory forthe construction of relevant scientific knowledge.

This article uses the tension between the unconditioned and the conditioned that Kant detects in the human being and that he presents in the Critique of Pure Reason in order to account for the internal dynamics of the philosophy of religion. In this sense, the work presents the way in which Kant leaves behind dogmatic metaphysics to give way to another, which is the result of the "constriction of reason". Next, the ways in which an attempt is made to condition the unconditioned are presented, both in the case of freedom, in that of thought and in that of spiritual life. The solution to the problem that Kant detects is offered in the abandonment of rational theology and the passage to the resources of critical philosophy, phenomenology, pragmatism or critical theory.

Analiza el Estado desde la concepción hobbesiana y precisa que este tiene como principal objetivo garantizar la seguridad en la sociedad política, desplazando otras metas estatales como el bien común, la felicidad, la protección de las libertades, etc. que tuvieron relevancia en los proyectos flosófco-políticos de la tradición clásica y de no pocos flósofos contemporáneos. El Estado hobbesiano resulta mínimo con relación a una posible intervención en ámbitos como el social y el económico, pero expansivo respecto a las medidas para combatir la inseguridad. Propone que este Estado y los contemporáneos de orientación neoliberal están legitimados por su función policial en un escenario internacional marcado por el miedo y la inseguridad.

This paper presents the first data on vocalizations of the Long-snouted Bat Platalina genovensium. It is also the first published study on ultrasound analysis of any bat from Peru. The recordings of vocalizations were obtained from flying bats while in their roosts. These roosts were found in two locations near the city of Lima. Each echolocation call was composed of FM fast pulses of 1.30 ms of extremely low intensity (-10 to -35 dB one m away from the recording device), in sequences of 12.90 pulses per second, with 28.58 kHz bandwidth in average, discontinuous, average interpulse of 67.56 ms, and an energy peak in 89.21 kHz. The pulses present a harmonic above 190 kHz. Both, Discrete Fourier Transform and Analysis of the Energy Distribution in frequency bands were used to obtain a predictive equation.
