This research is the result of the study conducted at the end of the year 2014 to determine the minimum bandwidth required (to hire) by the Universidad Nacional de San Martín - Tarapoto [UNSM-T], in function to transfer to the LAN network-level rates require students who has a Wi-Fi device and use it on the University campus. To determine the required bandwidth applied the formula of Contreras, O and Contreras. N. (2010). This calculation was based on the application of statistical methods that allow to determine a sample that allows to infer the results to the University population.

This research paper describes the effects that memes had during a period of the political crisis in Bolivia during October/November 2019. To this end, a compilation of political memes was made, understanding these as a socio-cultural artifact belonging to the Internet. These were subsequently unraveled in two focus groups. Through these, it was evidenced that memes produced and consumed at this time reinforced pre-existing political identities. Furthermore, we suggest that there are quality standards under which they are classified by users.

Since Paul Lazarsfeld’s first study on the influentials, carried out in the forties, research on opinion leaders have been developed mainly in the political field. Nevertheless, in his studies, Lazarsfeld focused his attention on other areas such as fashion. Lazarsfeld identified influentials as those people with a “leadership almost invisible and certainly unconscious, face to face; close, informal and daily”, being able to influence in their relatives’ voting and purchasing decisions. These opinion leaders’ or influentials prescribing ability was and is today very powerful and of great interest for its study. Clearly, the influence of the Internet in society has changed the way we communicate, interact and consume. In the fashion area, a research study about the influentials after the advent of the Internet has not been done yet. As a consequence, the main goal of this resear...

Article analyzes the inclusion of neurosciences such as Anthropology and Ethnography in the study of online audiences. These disciplines, when used in digital environments, derive in names such as cyberanthropology, digital anthropology or virtual ethnography. These acquire relevance in the communicative processes of the people mediated by computer, influenced by the new narrative forms, proposing a more transversal and multidisciplinary approach in the study of users with the aim of knowing and detecting the needs of the same, as well as, knowing in depth the phenomenon of masses that are aligned in social networks using different mobile devices. Finally, some additional steps are suggested for the articulation of Anthropology for Cyberjournalism, exploring the implications of the disciplines treated as innovative strategies in the study of journalism and communication.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have played a crucial role in higher education. However, inappropriate use has exacerbated mental health problems. The purpose of this article was to validate the adaptation of the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire (PIUQ) in young university students from a private university in Lima with 255 students between 17 and 19 years old. Psychometric analysis included exploratory factor analysis (EFA), analysis based on item response theory (IRT) using Samejima’s graded response model, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA); alpha and omega coefficients were used to assess reliability (internal consistency). The IRT analysis showed adequate discrimination coefficients for all items. The alpha coefficients for each of the three PIUQ-18 subscales were between .7 and .9, and those for the total scale were > .90 (suggesting the possibility ...

In this paper we report the results of a qualitative research study about the emerging teaching strategies derived from the growing problem of academic plagiarism due to large amounts of information available on the internet. The participants were 17 experimented (seniority of 10 years or more) teachers engaged in undergraduate teaching at the second largest public university in Mexico. The main goal of the study was to account for the classic or traditional teaching strategies that teachers resort to in order to fight plagiarism, a practice that is rife because of the easy access to internet and related technologies. The results made possible to establish two main categories, the first one related with the strategies to prevent academic plagiarism, and the second one related with the strategies of detection and sanction of it. The analysis explore...

The statistics of the major international health organizations, shows that most affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are young, which also can have consequences that affect the rest of their lives. An audience study to understand how a selected sample of university students construct ideas about these diseases, how these notions are reflected in their sexual practice, and what sources prefer to learn on the subject, reveals that traditional media are no longer within of the main areas in which they obtain information or share ideas about STIs. Neither their schools provide reliable information on the subject. They prefer face-to-face communication, and the Internet and social networks to the extent that allow interactivity and dialogue. They favor a playful perspective as well as practical and useful information.
