The White-cheeked Cotinga Zaratornis stresemanni (Koepcke, 1954) (Birds: Cotingidae) is an endemic bird of Peru, specialist of Polylepis forests. Is currently threatened by habitat loss and degradation. In this note, we document records to the northwest of Arequipa department, in southern Peru. These records extend in at least 130 km the austral distribution range and correspond to the first documented records of the species for Arequipa department. We suggest that the White-cheeked Cotinga would be resident in the Polylepis forests in northwest Arequipa.

Sakesphorus canadensis is a Thamnophilid antbird distributed along the major river systems of northern South America. In Peru, it is typically associated with blackwater habitats in the northern Amazon, particularly within the Loreto Department. Here, we report the first record of S. c. loretoyacuensis in the Yaguas River basin, Putumayo Province, near the border with Colombia. This finding represents the northernmost record of the species in Loreto, extending its known distribution by approximately 120 km northward. The presence of this species in the Yaguas basin underscores the importance of continued biodiversity surveys in remote regions to improve our understanding of the country's avifauna.

Se utilizaron 180 muestras de suero pareadas procedentes de 3 lotes de reproductores abuelos y padres de pollos de carne y gallinas de postura, testadas entre 1 a 3 días, 16 y 27 semanas de edad para detectar anticuerpos contra el virus de la Enfermedad Infecciosa de la Bursa, por la prueba de ELISA. Se compararon dos kits comerciales de ELISA, uno convencionalmente usado “ ELISA IBD” y uno nuevo de Rango Extendido denominado “ ELISA IBD-XR”. La prueba de ELISA IBD-XR detectó más títulos que la prueba de ELISA estándar. A total of 180 paired serum samples from 3 breeder groups (broiler’s grandparents and parents), and layers) were used to detect antibodies against the Infectious Bursal Disease virus through the ELISA test. Animals were tested at three ages (1-3 days, 16, and 27 weeks of age). Two commercial kits were tested: the standard ELISA (ELISA-IBD) and the new named Extended Range ELISA (ELISA-XR). The latter detected higher titres of antibodies than the ELISA-IBD. Broiler’s parents had the higher levels of antibodies indicating better immune response than the other two groups. The titre distribution had a more uniform distribution using the ELISA-IBD rather that the ELISA-XR; however all titres were above the minimum accepted ranges when the ELISA-XR was used (p<0.05). The effect of glucose, fructose, trehalose, and sucrose, as components of the extender, was evaluated on canine sperm viability during refrigeration at 5 ºC. The spermatic fraction of 16 dog ejaculations were distributed in 5 aliquots containing an extender based on Tris – citric acid – egg yolk, but differing in the presence of one of the sugars, plus a control without sugar. The five treatments were evaluated after 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours of refrigeration in relation to progressive motility and functional integrity of the membrane by the hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS). All groups, with the exception of the control group, the sperm motility maintained within acceptable ranges during the study (90% on day 0 and 60% on day 4). El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el uso de yema de huevo centrifugada (YHC) en la congelación de espermatozoides epididimales caninos. Se obtuvieron los complejos testículo-epidídimo (CTE) después de la orquiectomía de 20 perros domésticos (Canis familiaris) de varias razas y en un rango de edad entre 1 y 6 años. Se diseccionó la cola del epidídimo y se obtuvieron los espermatozoides mediante la técnica de flujo retrógrado. Los espermatozoides obtenidos se dividieron en dos alícuotas y se diluyeron en Triladyl® suplementado con YHC al 10% (YHC10) o YHC al 20% (YHC20). The aim of this research was to evaluate the use of centrifuged egg yolk (CEY) in the freezing process of canine epididymal spermatozoa. Testicular-epididymis complexes (TECs) were obtained after the orchiectomy of 20 domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) of different breeds and with an age range between 1 and 6 years. The tail of the epididymis was dissected and spermatozoa were obtained by the retrograde flow technique. Se analizó el efecto de los dilutores Tris-glucosa y Ovine Freezing Buffer (UA 466/ 005238) sobre la motilidad e integridad de la membrana citoplasmática de los espermatozoides durante el proceso de congelación de semen ovino. Se utilizó el semen de cinco carneros (2 Assaf, 2 Canela y 1 Black Belly). El semen fresco fue de buena calidad y los valores de las características seminales estuvieron dentro de los parámetros de la especie. The effect of two semen extenders: Glucose Tris and Ovine Freezing Buffer (UA 466/ 005238) on the motility and cytoplasmic membrane integrity of spermatozoa during the freezing process was evaluated. Five rams (2 Assaf, 2 Cinnamon and 1 Black Belly) were used. The fresh semen was of good quality and values of seminal characteristics were within the normal range for this species. Austrocylindropuntia pachypus (K.Schum.) Backeb. it is an endemic cactus whose distribution was restricted to the western slopes of La Libertad, Ancash, Lima; and based on botanical expeditions through the Andean foothills of Ica, new records are reported with reduced populations of A. pachypus, which makes it possible to extend its known distribution to southern Peru by more than 260 km; in addition, based on 35 georeferenced records, information is presented on their locations, populations, potential distribution, habitats, threats, and the conservation status was analyzed. La cotinga cariblanca Zaratornis stresemanni (Koepcke, 1954) (Aves: Cotingidae) es un ave endémica del Perú especialista de bosques de Polylepis. Actualmente se encuentra amenazada por la pérdida y degradación de su hábitat. En esta nota reportamos dos registros documentados al noroeste del departamento de Arequipa, en el sur de Perú, los cuales amplían en al menos 130 km su rango de distribución austral y corresponden a los primeros registros documentados de la especie para el departamento de Arequipa. Se sugiere que la cotinga cariblanca residiría en los bosques de Polylepis en el noroeste de Arequipa.

Se presenta a Maxillaria jostii Dodson (Orchidaceae) como una nueva adición a la Flora del Perú procedente de los substratos de roca arenisca de la Cordillera subandina de Huarango (provincia San Ignacio, departamento Cajamarca), una prolongación sureña de la Cordillera del Cóndor rica en especies. Maxillaria jostii ha sido considerada como una especie endémica para Ecuador (Zamora-Chinchipe, Morona-Santiago); sin embargo, con el presente estudio se amplía su distribución geográfica hacia el Perú. Se evaluó el efecto la glucosa, fructosa, trehalosa y sacarosa, como componentes del diluyente, sobre la viabilidad espermática en semen canino refrigerado a 5 °C. La fracción espermática de 16 eyaculados de perro fue distribuida en cinco alícuotas conteniendo un diluyente a base de Tris - ácido cítrico - yema de huevo, pero con un azúcar distinto, además del control sin azúcar. Los cinco tratamientos se evaluaron a las 24, 48, 72 y 96 horas de refrigeración en base a motilidad progresiva e integridad funcional de membrana mediante la prueba hipoosmótica (HOS). Due to the transmedia narrative of the series, its contents were communicated through a wide range of platforms; therefore, some had to be selected to be analyzed.
