Communication for development (CfD) is a discipline that seeks to promote social change through the strategic use of media and participatory dialogue. However, there is a paucity of studies that systematically and critically analyze the social processes underlying CfD interventions and their impact on the social significance of beneficiary communities. This article presents a narrative review of the literature on CfD, with the aim of identifying the main theoretical and methodological approaches that have addressed this topic, as well as the main limitations and challenges facing research in this field. This study focuses on ostomy, a digestive surgery that has increased in recent years. Its limited visibility and low awareness among the population leads us to investigate the way it is represented on social media and the role played by certain content creators on Instagram. Using a methodology based on content analysis, we examine a sample of Instagram profiles focused on the visibility of this surgery. The results reveal that the existence of these profiles and their regular publication of content about ostomy: 1) It causes a reassuring effect for people who are in a similar or close situation; 2) The fact of relating their experience and naturally showing their day-to-day life with “pouch” helps to raise awareness of a situation that is irreversible in many cases, but which allows improving the quality of life of many patients with serious intestinal diseases; and 3) Their role as...

This research aims at understanding how the performance measurement system (PMS) is reflected in work engagement, motivation and satisfaction. Data were collected from 11 surveys completed by coordinators and managers from a petroleum refinery located in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul. Henri (2006) and Simons (1995) approaches on the performance measurement system were adopted together with employee behavioral indicators (such as motivation, satisfaction and engagement) as elements to conduct surveys which were subsequently under content analysis (Bardin, 2016). Objective: Report two cases of Odontogenic Maxillary Sinusitis (OMS), diagnosed exclusively by Cone Bean Computed Tomography (CBCT). Case Report 1: A 48 years-old woman referred diffuse pain across the face and upper left first molar (ULFM) with carious lesion. The panoramic X-Ray showed a periapical lesion with delimited limits in the ULFM and opacification of the left maxillary sinus (OPMS). Only in CBCT there were relationship between ULFM periapical lesion and the maxillary sinus through cortical rupture of the maxillary sinus floor, thickening the maxillary sinus mucosa (TMSM). Edu-communication is a field of study founded by the Latin American theoretical currents of liberating pedagogy, popular communication and cultural studies. This essay reviews their foundation and recent theoretical development in Peru. The three fundamental contributions of edu-communication are as follows: recognizing inter-subjectivity as being a critical element for understanding the interactions between individuals and media, the attention assigned to cultural communicative practices and political dimensions, and its focus on the individual rather than on the technological device, deviating from the more instrumental theoretical perspectives.

This article aims at analyzing the meanings of the so-called open government (OG) from a communication approach articulated with social semiotics tools. Our hypothesis points out the impossibility to study these policies isolated from the urban social context where they are developed, making up a type of city and the citizens for such city. Our theoretical-methodological strategy is focused on approaching the OG as a sensitivity regulation device that establishes new ways of social control. The analysis will be conducted on the city of Córdoba, Argentina, whose urban population matrix and evaluating ideological environment legitimize these OG policies. In the academic careers of subfields like Journalism, the communicational field is at a crisis caused by the gap between theory accumulation and knowledge reproduction. Thirty years ago, Verón and Martín-Barbero proposed a new approach, displacing analysis of the media to mediations. In 2008, Scolari started focusing in the hypermediations, consisting of forwards, hybridization and contaminations. In 2009, Castells put emphasis on the observation of social transformations provoked by mass auto-communication. While we must think in dismassification and fragmentation, obsolete notions like massive culture or cultural industry resist, reducing the profession to a poor monologue with little incidence in the informative management. The subject of this paper is to discuss the factors that disturb the connection between two academic plans necessarily interdependent.

The Universidad Pedagógica Veracruzana (UPV) offers the Bachelor's Degree in Basic Education, which constitutes the initial teacher training. Over eight semesters, students explore topics in educational research through an integrative approach. This article aims to analyze the journalistic content of the newspaper Perú21, on the focus of interest information on international relations to know the frames or episodic and thematic frames in the news, and the approach saved with the official agenda of foreign affairs. The corpus consisted of 1295 journalistic texts produced between the months of July 2011 to July 2015. The different framings were determined on the basis of the theory of framing and typology of frames proposed by Semetko and Valkenburg. The results indicate that the news production issues Chancellery is defined primarily by the “attribution of responsibility” and “economic consequences”, particularly on issues of free trade and market economy, security and defense, human rights, fight against drug trafficking, the environment and technical cooperation.

The influencer, considered a key asset in the strategy for online communication (Pérez-Curiel and Clavijo-Ferreira, 2017), causes a loss of control over the strategic decisions of fashion brands due to their independence in developing actions (Díaz, 2017). In order to describe to what extent, the influencer enhances the brand identity and the change in strategy trend in the sector, a triple-focus comparative content analysis methodology is designed (Silverman, 2016; Krippendorff, 2004). It analyzes the Instagram accounts of three international renowned luxury firms such as Gucci, Loewe and Margiela (total posts n1 = 3756 and specific posts n2 = 240) and develops a panel of experts (n3=6) aimed at specialized professionals and academics. The results indicate how the values and corporate image of the brands are affected by the ego-personal discourse of these influence profiles.
