Peruvian legislation, in accordance with international standards, establishes that the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, reception or retention of children or adolescents for the purpose of exploitation of any kind is considered trafficking in persons. Consequently, this activity will be punished with imprisonment, according to the magnitude of the crime. Therefore, the general objective of the study was to determine the relationship between trafficking in minors and citizen security in Metropolitan Lima, 2016”. The method employed in the study is descriptive correlational. It is descriptive in terms of its methodological scope because it aims to know precisely the magnitude of a situation, hierarchize the problems, identify its variables and point out the guidelines for hypothesis testing. And it is correlational because it relates child trafficking with citizen securi...

The objective of the research was to establish whether the non-fulfillment of the child support obligation by the application of the principle of opportunity violates the right of the child support provider to have an adequate standard of living for his or her full development in a Peruvian province. For this purpose, a non-experimental research of cross-sectional design, at a relational level, was developed. The sample consisted of 275 files, all of which were processed for omission of family assistance under the criminal type of non-compliance with child support obligations, typified in article 149 of the Penal Code. In order to collect the research data, the documentary analysis technique was used and the instrument used was a data collection form. It was found that 49.09% of the files showed debts of between 16 and 20 months of unpaid alimony, 29.09% of the accused had a debt of betw...

Intralobar bronchopulmonary sequestration consists of isolated non- functioning lung tissue that lacks normal communication to the tracheobronchial tree. It has systemic arterial supply and venous drainage to the pulmonary veins or the left atrium. Whereas extralobar sequestration is clearly congenital, intralobar sequestration may have a congenital or acquired origin and frequently presents in older children (usually older than 10 years old). We present the case of a 3 years old patient with recurrent attacks of basal right lung pneumonia. Intralobar pulmonary sequestration was confirmed by arteriogram. We must consider this lesion among the diagnostic approach to children with clinical and radiological findings suggestive of pneumonia and poor response to the administered antibiotics. The usefulness of different imaging techniques for the diagnosis is also addressed.

Osteopetrosis comprises a series of rare genetic conditions that produce an imbalance in bone remodeling due to abnormal osteoclastic activity. We report a female patient 1 year 4 months, diagnosed with malignant osteopetrosis neuropathic child while causing paleness, distended abdomen with collateral circulation and growth retardation and developmental milestones are investigating. Examination right eye with retinopathy. Skeletal x-rays revealed a generalized bone hyperdensity. She bone marrow aspirate showed hypercellularity with hyperplastic erythroid, megakaryocytic normal white series. Diagnosis was confirmed by clinical and radiological features. The patient received supportive care. While the diagnosis is simple OPAR this is often delayed by the rarity of the disease and the lack of clinical suspicion, early diagnosis and treatment of bone marrow transplant is curative approach to...

Regional odontodysplasia is an uncommon dental anomaly that is not hereditary and has a still unknown etiology. The affected tissues are enamel and dentin, the primary teeth are affected, and sometimes in the permanent dentition of the same individual. This lesion may be confused with other lesions such as odontoma or teeth with another type of anomaly. The objective is to report a case of regional odontodysplasia in the deciduous and permanent dentition of a child, as well as to present the different diagnostic tools. The affected teeth showed clinical examination, such as hypoplastic teeth with a yellow-brown coloration. A panoramic radiograph and periapical radiographs, as well as an excisional biopsy, were essential to obtain a correct diagnosis, so as to be able to offer an adequate conduct for the preservation and predictability of the different types of dental rehabilitation...

In Peru, according to data from the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES), between 1995 and 2007, the prevalence of chronic malnutrition (DCI) remained almost invariant at around 28%. From 2008 to 2014, the DCI indicator fell more than 14 points from the national average, with a greater reduction in children from the poorest quintiles. This fact made the fight against the DCI in Peru one of the most successful cases of social policy in the world. Behind all this, there was a set of innovations in financial and budgetary policy and management that led to the timely delivery of effective services to attack this problem. This article aims to describe these innovations, as well as the key milestones that enabled such a reduction in DCI. The relevance of addressing this problem for human development is highlighted; likewise, the magnitude of the DCI in Peru is described; management fai...

This article analyzes the problem of the criminalization of abortion in cases of sexual rape from a critical feminist perspective. It emphasizes the differentiated impact that this discriminatory use of criminal law generates in girls under 14 years of age, regarding the increasingly alarming problem of child pregnancy in Peru and Latin America. Because of this, the author uses methodologies for analyzing the legal phenomenon proposed by feminisms, in the light of the principle of Higher Interest of the Child and international standards for the protection of children and gender equality, present in the International Human Rights Law.

Fetus in fetu is a rare condition, which has fewer than 200 cases reported to date. It is mainly located in the retro peritoneum; but it can occur at other levels. Treatment is always surgical and early detection and extraction allows clinical improvement and the successful development of the affected child. We report the case of an 18 month infant who is carried by her mother to medical appointment due to low weight for that age. In the physical exam, doctor found mass in the left hypochondrium and epigastrium and a total abdominal ultrasound is requested. Ultrasound reports findings relating to right hydronephrosis, and excretory urography and a CT with contrast reveals fetus parasite located in retro peritoneum. The infant is taken to surgery for lysis of peritoneal adhesions, resection of retroperitoneal tumor, and ureterolysis nephropexy. After this, the infant presented good evolut...

The situation of child soldiers is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous contexts within the international community. Despite the broadness of international regulation in this area (International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law or International Criminal Law), we still find certainly alarming figures that should be interpreted as a warning for States to redouble their efforts in order to eradicate any participation of childs in armed conflicts. This article analyses the international standards in this area from the 1977 Additional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict. In addition, the article studies the Rome Statute and the jurisprudence of the International Criminal Court. Also, it focuses especially on the debates on the judgment on Dominic Ongwen, a former child soldier.

Background: We describe an 8-month-old boy with leukemia and SARS-CoV-2 infection who developed Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon. He had a positive SARS-COV-2 RT-PCR sample. Hematologic tests showed coagulopathy and intestinal involvement. She was managed in emergency receiving transfusion support and in hospitalization with social isolation measures, she started propanolol and corticotherapy as initial treatment of infantile angiomas. She presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction and underwent surgery and evidence of hemorrhagic infarction with foci of intestinal ischemic necrosis, ending in ileostomy. We tried to understand a pathophysiological explanation of the dermatologic and gastrointestinal tract involvement by the virus and the atypical form of COVID-19. Given the emerging evidence of endothelial and vascular involvement in COVID-19, the development of tests to detect vascula...

Cone Beam Computed Tomography offers highly precise 3D images ideal for diagnosis and case planning, although this imaging method involves the use of high doses of radiation. When considering the optimization principle, radiation dose reduction methods aim to modify the technical parameters of the equipment to obtain an ideal combination between dose and image quality. This is important in the pediatric patient because the highest levels of risk are associated with X-ray exposure in this age group. We present the case of an 11-year-old female patient is presented, in which a low-resolution protocol is used to locate the maxillary retained canines. The advantages and practical application of this imaging study method are analyzed by performing variations in exposure parameters. Supported by tomographic images, the surgical procedure is carried out to subsequently a guided eruption, achiev...

This brief review focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of human lactation for the mental development of children. The review covers theree tapies: (1) Correlation between type of feeding and performance on different mental tests administered befare and after the first three years of postnatal life, (2) Prevention of nutritional deficiencies that have adverse effects on cognition and prevention of sequels from pre-term births and low birth weight; (3) Contamination of human milk. The purpose is to provide a representative view of these three tapies. Our evaluation of the publised data shows that the information does not allow for definitive conclusions, particularly in reference to the first and third tapie. The strongest available evidences is found on studies of the effects of free fatty acids on cerebral growth and on longitudinal studies of pre-term children of low...

Trauma in the primary dentition often requires different management than in the permanent dentition. We present the case of an 18-month-old female patient, in apparent good general condition, with no medical history, who came to the pediatric dentistry service of the Teaching Dental Center of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia because "a tooth had become incrusted when it fell out". After the extraoral examination, edema was observed in the lower lip and intraorally there was an apical displacement of tooth 61. Radiographically, it is observed that tooth 61 is rotated with apical displacement. Diagnosis: Intrusive dislocation of tooth 61 and contusion of the lower lip. Treatment: Washing with physiological saline solution, soft diet, and use of a soft bristle toothbrush; she was kept under observation. Controls: Follow-up was carried out for seven months, during which time spontane...

This case report describes the use of digital technology in pediatric dentistry to fabricate a space maintainer for a 6-year-old patient with dental anxiety and fear related to previous traumatic experiences. An intraoral scanner and computer-aided design software were used to generate a three-dimensional digital model of the dental arch, on which the space maintainer was designed and fabricated. The device was made from polymethyl methacrylate using a subtractive dry-milling process. Incorporating a digital workflow into clinical care may provide a less invasive and more comfortable alternative for managing children with dental anxiety and fear of dental treatment.

Access to justice as a fundamental human right must be guaranteed at all stages of the process and also in the execution of the sentence. This approach is evident in the current challenges in the jurisdictional function. International child return cases must be resolved within a reasonable period of six weeks. To this end, the procedure must be regulated and judges must have the necessary means to make appropriate decisions. Access to justice in these cases involves three vulnerable groups: children because of their age, those who litigate at a distance, and women because of their gender. In this article, we will analyze each of them considering the challenges of our time.
