A clinical case of tuberculous meningoencephalitis in a 5-month-old Holstein calf that presented nervous symptoms is described. The calf was part of a herd with a 30% prevalence of tuberculosis. The animal was euthanized, and a necropsy was performed. No lesions were found in organs of the thoracic or abdominal cavity. Brain samples were taken for histopathology (hematoxylin-eosin and Zielh Nelsen staining), bacteriology and PCR-MRD1 studies. In the brain, macroscopic inflammatory lesions with congestion and granular appearance were observed in the meninges, as well as fibrous adhesions in the ventral area. Microscopically, inflammatory infiltrate, lymphocytes, macrophages, epithelioid cells, plasma cells and multinucleated giant cells, areas of central necrosis, dystrophic mineralization and acid-fast bacilli were observed. Granulomatous meningoencephalitis due to Mycobacterium bovis wa...

Congenital muscular torticollis is a well-known clinical entity since antiquity. It is characterized by a deviation of the head with tilt from the affected side; the chin rotates in the opposite direction, which occurs throughout life an important functional defect neck and considerable aesthetic defect. The risk obstetrical factors included obstetrical, maternal and fetal. A case of a newborn cesarean delivery with congenital muscular torticollis of cause postural and intrauterine, evidenced by the photo views, whose prognosis is good when the physiotherapy management starts as soon arises. The present work made in the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal he has objective to contribute to medical knowledge and exchanging experiences in the early diagnosis of a newborn with congenital muscular torticollis of cause postural and intrauterine and timely referral to a specialized center for ...

Objective: To determine the clinical, laboratory and epidemiological factors that motivate hospitalization for asthmatic crisis at Yanahuara Hospital, Arequipa-Peru. Material and methods: Observational, prospective, case-control study in which risk factors for hospitalization were studied, comparing 84 hospitalized asthmatic children with 110 control children of the Asthma Program. Results: The highest frequency of hospitalization occurs in the range of 6-12 year-old (51.2 %) majority male (56 %). The associated clinical factors were the fact of presenting previous respiratory symptoms (p<0.01), history of allergic rhinitis (p<0.01; OR=3.80) and history of exercise intolerance (EIB) (p<0.01; OR=4.89). Among the laboratory factors, high IgE was found positive for age (p=0.037; OR=2.70). The epidemiological factors that were associated with ...

External genital trauma is caused by external mechanical agents and account for 68.1% of all genitourinary trauma. Firearm projectile trauma are increasing as a result of escalating delinquency in urban settings, these traumas involve the scrotum and penis in 78% and 28%, respectively. Management of these traumas require evaluation of the scrotum and penis; orchiectomy is needed if the testes are not recuperable. Surgical procedures are aimed at avoiding complications such as sexual and urinary dysfunction. We present two cases aimed at reporting the management of external genital trauma at our centre in absence of local reports of firearm projectile trauma.

Introduction: Tuberculosis is one of the 10 leading causes of death worldwide. In 2020, it caused 1.5 million deaths. It is estimated that it reached 10.0 million new cases during the same year. Case of report: 93-year-old male, history of pulmonary TB 15 years ago and current TB contact. He presented dyspnea and pleuritic pain for 4 months. Thoracocentesis concludes exudate, pleural biopsy compatible with non-caseating granulomatous pleurisy. Receive antituberculosis regimen, developing hepatic RAFA. Pharmacological challenge is performed to design a new treatment scheme. Patient manages to recover. It is concluded that the management of tuberculosis should be individualized.

This paper presents the findings obtained from a series of analyzes carried out for a freshwater prawn maturation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Costa Rica. A large larval production centre had recurrent abortions of gravid females, as well as high mortality in larval and post-larval stages. The results indicate that increases in the presence of organic matter in the water of the tanks caused high prevalence of ectoparasites in the ovigerous masses, as well as high bacterial counts in the water column. This condition generated bacterial and parasitic infections in larvae with severe reduction in production.

Objective: To propose the use of extraoral laser therapy to treat odynophagia associated with radioinduced hypopharyngeal mucositis. Odynophagia is characterized by swallowing pain, often requiring diet changes, which directly impacts the patient’s quality of life. Material and Methods: The investigation was an observational descriptive study with case series report. Was performed application of extraoral photobiomodulation for three oncologic patients with odynophagia associated with oral and hypopharyngeal mucositis radioinduced, with low-level laser therapy (Therapy XT DMC®) with λ808nm, 100mW power and 4J energy, 40 seconds per point. Reports of three patients who underwent treatment were collected, transcribed and reviewed qualitatively. The laser application points were proposed based on a previous anatomical study in cadavers, which sought to identify the best area of applicat...

Covid-19 disease shows many different manifestations, from common symptoms affecting both the upper and lower respiratory tract, and also sensorial alterations such as anosmia or taste perversion. Heart valve thrombosis and subsequent endocarditis are extremely rare manifestations and they have been scarcely described within the context of Covid-19. We present a case of a patient that was positive for SARS-Cov-2, who developed Staphylococcus hominis bacteremia. Afterwards, he developed persistent fever, and after ruling out some differential diagnoses, a diagnosis of infective endocarditis affecting a native healthy aortic valve was made, using cardiac ultrasonography. This occurrence was considered to be hospital-acquired.

Introduction: Cat-scratch disease most of the times is described reporting its typical form; systemic forms are rare and they are seldom reported. Cat-scratch disease may have a great variety of presentations, and some of them are quite unusual. This is the very first time that the systemic form is reported in Peru.Clinical case: We present two girls, 5 and 6 years old, hospitalized in the pediatric ward of Hospital Nacional Carlos Alberto Seguin, EsSalud, Arequipa, Peru, who presented with the systemic form of cat scratch disease. Both girls were scratched by kittens without developing a characteristic local reaction, and they presented with prolonged fever, malaise, anorexia, headache, abdominal pain, lymph node enlargement, liver and spleen involvement, accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, high levels of C-reactive protein, leukocytosis, left shift, slightly elevated ...

The purpose of this paper was the modeling of risks due to a fuel spill in the coastal region of Ecuador. Fuel spills are an imminent danger due to the impossibility of controlling them immediately because they represent a high destructive potential for the environment. It is hypothesized that a risk management system would allow better understanding in the case of future spills; for this purpose, it is proposed to use UNE 150008 2008 ENVIRONMENTAL RISK ASSESSMENT in addition to geoelectric prospecting. The spill study area comprised approximately 20 hectares of land comprised of the easement belt or right-of-way of the Poliducto and the Pipeline as well as the lands adjacent to the site of the spill where presumably the pollution spread. Through the physical chemical characterization of water, flora, fauna and socioeconomic soil, the results were evaluated using the flow model and the r...

We analyzed a young man with a history of jaundice since childhood and cholelithiasis, who presented with abdominal pain, jaundice and splenomegaly. Initially, a diagnosis of dengue was considered, given the prevalence of this disease in the patient's geographic region. However, additional testing identified hereditary spherocytosis, a genetic hemolytic disorder. The importance of considering alternative diagnoses in the face of common symptoms in emergencies is emphasized. Initial dengue-oriented management was followed by targeted treatment for hereditary spherocytosis after the diagnosis was confirmed, resulting in significant improvement in the patient. This case emphasizes the need for thorough anamnesis and meticulous diagnostic evaluation to prevent diagnostic errors and inappropriate treatment, highlighting how inherited diseases can mimic infectious conditions in complex clinica...

Often the bodily injuries caused in the practice of soccer involve weeks of recovery, when it comes to serious injuries, they can require long medical treatments and surgical interventions that even mean the withdrawal of the athlete from the professional practice. These injuries are not normally reported to the competent authority, perhaps because it is often mistakenly understood that all of them have no criminal relevance. The truth is that, in the doctrine, the authors have dealt with injuries in the practice of sports, with different positions regarding the cases that deserve criminal sanction and those that are exempt from it. Thus, some affirm that said behaviors are atypical because they are caused under the consent of the athlete and the risk allowed; that they are exempt from punishment because sport is an activity that is carried out in the legitimate exercise of a trade or the...

Just cause and gross misconduct constitute two major concepts that a regular employee usually associates with dismissal and, at the same time, with arbitrariness and abuse. This is not always so, given that the only possibility in Peru to dismiss an employee, at least in theory, is his dismissal for a just cause, that is, in accordance with the law. This article analyzes the treatment of these concepts regulated by Supreme Executive Order No. 003-97-TR, Consolidated Text of Legislative Executive Order No. 728 and the manner how the case law has gradually shaped and consolidated their scope, an evolution that has not, albeit, removed the idea of the arbitrary dismissal from the labor spectrum, has allowed us to understand it from two valuable perspectives: the improvement of the quality of the service that must be inherent to an employment contract or relationship and respect for the qual...
