This paper addresses the problem of false balance in the press, in the context of technical decision making —those in which science intersects with the public domain because the issues at stake are relevant for the population as a whole. It sets out to frame the problem in a broad context, the sociology of sciences, that enables meeting the need for recognising the democratic commitments of journalism and the importance of communicating technological progress efficiently to confront the challenges posed by misinformation. The methodology consists in a conceptual analysis, grounded in recent cases of false balance: climate change and vaccines. It concludes that the conceptual categories proposed by the theory help journalism regain a place of credibility where both the role of expertise and citizen participation find legitimacy in technical decision making, without blurring the dis...

Desde la perspectiva de la economía del comportamiento, el nudge, como mecanismo psicológico, es una herramienta potencial en la elaboración de políticas públicas, ya que ha sido ampliamente reconocido por su éxito en intervenciones recientes debido a su bajo coste de implementación. En ese sentido, este artículo analizó el potencial uso del nudge en las políticas públicas ante determinadas situaciones. Para tal fin, se ha realizado la revisión sistemática de literatura sobre la economía del comportamiento. Los resultados permitieron identificar el potencial de uso del nudge en políticas públicas respecto a decisiones predeterminadas, protección ante compras no solicitadas y contratos de renovación automática. Results of recent investigations have given us a new understanding of the pathogenesis of HIV infection. This findings provide us with a kinetic model of pathogenesis in which continuous, high-grade viral replication. This findings provide us with a kinetic model of pathogenesis in which continuous, high-grade viral replication is the principal force driving the destruction of CD4 lymphocytes. This knowledge will lead us to design better treatment strategies directed to curtail viral replication and prevent the emergence of viral resistance, and the use of combination antiretroviral therapy is a first example of these new strategies. The concept of viral load is introduced, and we discuss the usefulness of viral load in the clinical prognosis of this disease, and its use as an aid in the decision-making process when starling or mordifyng antiretroviral therapy in our patients.

Se propone conocer la relación entre las estrategias de afrontamiento y el apoyo social percibido en la etapa de diagnóstico reciente. La muestra estuvo conformada por 56 mujeres con cáncer de mama, cuyas edades fluctúan entre 27 y 80 años (M=53.71, DE=12.87). El tiempo de diagnóstico oscila entre 1 y 8 meses y fueron atendidas en un centro de prevención en Lima Metropolitana. Se empleó el Cuestionario de Estimación del Afrontamiento (COPE) (Crespo & Cruzado, 1997) y el cuestionario MOS de Apoyo Social en Atención Primaria (De la Revilla et al., 2005). Los resultados evidencian relaciones significativas y directas entre los índices de apoyo percibido y las estrategias: reinterpretación positiva, planificación, acudir a la religión; uso del humor y, una relación inversa con negación. We narrate two opposite situations: that of Guató, a language with only two speakers, survivors of a long process of colonization, and that of the language spoken by the Xinane people, a monolingual recently-contacted group.We make use of these two examples to problematize the concept of "isolation": the Xinane situation is, in fact, one of de-isolation (contact), carefully planned and executed by young people, after three generations of isolation motivated by white violence. Vicente, on the other hand, one of the two last rememberers of the guató language can be more literally characterized as one of voluntary isolation, despite the 400 years of contact of his fragmented people. Some of these contrasts are perceived differently according to the angle in which one is situated inside the Peruvian society and the way one suffers its effects. Agenda-setting has evolved from a focus on media effects on the public's perception of the most important issues of the day to a theory elaborating a hierarchy of communication effects. Its core is three levels of agenda-setting. The initial two levels were introduced during the first decade of research. Level three is recent. Evidence from the initial studies on this expanded view of agenda setting supports the Network Agenda Setting Model. This theoretical model asserts that the news media can bundle sets of objects or attributes and make these bundles of elements salient in the public's mind simultaneously.
