Nowadays, the management of foundry machinery is expensive and complicated, not only because of the energy used, but also because of the polluting, lengthy and dangerous process. This perspective is relevant given that, in many metallurgical micro-enterprises, and even educational center laboratories, waste is generated that is sold at a very low price and a product made from virgin material is purchased, increasing the expense, time and natural consumption in the foundry process. The following innovation work develops a prototype proposal for a foundry process that provides optimization for the metallurgical industry on a smaller scale. The approach includes placing the material (waste) in a heating system that works through a conduction transfer, which is theoretically supported due to the short-circuit process complemented by Joule's Law, which is the conversion of electrical energy i...

The present work proposes an analysis of the internal temperature flow in two types of helical coils, whose number of turns is 6 and 10, for the sugar cane bagasse delignification process, using superheated steam as a heat source. The analysis seeks to find the ideal number of turns for the process, the inlet pressure, and the temperature range in which the coil should operate to provide the working temperature for the reaction. This proposal will be carried out using Ansys fluent version 19.2 educational simulation software, where the coils were designed and the temperature and pressure parameters of the superheated steam flow to travel through the internal part of the helical coil were introduced. As a result, with a number of coils of 10 and an inlet pressure of 0.4 MPa, an efficiency of 96.545% was achieved to maintain the temperature along the coil path. This allows its application ...

In the northern coastal and jungle areas of Peru, cocoa beans are dried using artisan methods, such as direct exposure to sunlight. This traditional process is time intensive, leading to a reduction in productivity and, therefore, delays in delivery times. The present study was intended to numerically characterise the thermal behaviour of three configurations of solar air heating collectors in order to determine which demonstrated the best thermal performance under several controlled operating conditions. For this purpose, a computational fluid dynamics model was developed to describe the simultaneous convective and radiative heat transfer phenomena under several operation conditions. The constructed computational fluid dynamics model was firstly validated through comparison with the data measurements of a one-step solar air heating collector. We then simulated two further three-step sol...

Currently, textile processing plants need to control the conditions associated with the spinning process, being the air conditioning of working environments an important factor in the quality and productivity of these processes. The benefits obtained from the optimization of this air conditioning help to guide a lower energy consumption, helping to improve the positioning of the products and providing profitability in the operation processes. Due to the advantages obtained in the air conditioning process, this work proposes a system that allows reusing the residual energy generated at the outlet of the ventilation ducts. This residual energy is fed into the plant to reduce the high temperatures observed in the ceiling. Consequently, this approach will generate a decrease in the service demand of the air conditioning system and reduce operating costs. Also, to verify this proposal, a mult...

The present study presents a detailed analysis of the diurnal and monthly cycles the surface boundary layer and of surface energy balance in a sparse natural vegetation canopy on Huancayo observatory (12.04° S, 75.32° W, 3313 m ASL), which is located in the central Andes of Peru (Mantaro Valley) during an entire year (May 2018-April 2019). We used a set of meteorological sensors (temperature, relative humidity, wind) installed in a gradient tower 30 m high, a set of radiative sensors to measure all irradiance components, and a set of tensiometers and heat flux plate to measure soil moisture, soil temperatures and soil heat flux. To estimate turbulent energy fluxes (sensible and latent), two flux-gradient methods: the aerodynamic method and the Bowen-ratio energy-balance method were used. The ground heat flux at surface was estimated using a molecular heat transfer equation. The results...

The installation of insulating products in industrial facilities is of great importance, due to the reduction in energy consumption that it provides. Industrial processes worldwide account for more than 30% of total energy consumption, so chemical processes must be as efficient as possible, seeking energy savings with the same level of production. The development of this work consists of several chapters; In chapter I, we refer to the theoretical framework related to heat transfer, thermal conductivity of different materials, we explain the law that governs this transfer, such as Fourier's law, the different heat transfer mechanisms such as conduction, convection and radiation, average temperature difference in composite walls, as well as heat transfer through various insulators. In chapter II, we explain the optimization of heat consumption using thermal insulation in steam pipes, takin...

In the present work, a solar thermal accumulator has been designed to improve the temporary instability of solar energy in the family drying of products. The structure of the accumulator is defined by thermal simulation in Comsol Multiphysics. The accumulator is modular, with a compact rectangular copper plate whose dimensions are 30 cm x 20 cm x 3 cm that encapsulates 1 kg of paraffin as phase change material. To improve the heat transfer from the phase change material, due to the low thermal conductivity of the paraffin, internal and / or external fins are incorporated into the accumulator to accelerate the process of charging and discharging the thermal energy. When two accumulator units are incorporated in the collector plate of a cabin solar dryer, the temperature of the air entering the drying chamber is stabilized during theaccumulator charging proces...

Drying is a method to preserve fruits, vegetables and fish by reducing their volume, their weight. Drying involves the application of energy to vaporize and mobilize the moisture content within porous products. During this process, heat and mass transfer occur simultaneously. The quality of dehydrated fruits, vegetables, and aromatic herbs is a problem closely related to the development and optimization of new drying techniques. This research work addresses the common drying methods applied to fruits, grains, fish and nutrients in relation to possible options to improve the quality of dried products using different drying techniques or their combination. In general, the drying technique is different for each of the materials studied and specific conditions should be recommended after a proper evaluation of the drying protocols. However, a novel or combined technique must ensure a high qu...

In the sugar industry, evaporators play an important role in the crystallization process of crystal sugar and heat economy. In this thesis two main objectives are intended to achieve it. The first objective was to determine the behavior of the field of velocities, temperatures and pressures of cane juice, of a two-phases system of a evaporator Roberts. The second objective was to determine the effect of inlet design on the juice to the evaporator heat transfer coefficient. As a study object was defined both the cane juice and Roberts evaporator. In order to computationally simulate the motion of a particle of sugarcane juice in a two-phase, CFX-ANSYS code was used, which calculates the flow field by the Finite Volume Method. Roberts evaporator of 1050 m2 in Industrial Pucalá in Lambayeque was used, which conditions of both cane juice and vapor was recorded flow. To determine the effect ...

Tropical high-mountain permafrost has a unique thermal regime due to its exposure to strong solar radiation and to rough surface snow morphology, which reduce ground heat transfer from the surface. Latent heat transfer and higher albedo that occur during the snow-covered season contribute to positive feedback that supports the presence of permafrost. This preliminary study reports on the thermal state characteristics of tropical mountain permafrost in Peru. This work also evaluates the potential combined impact of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the mountain permafrost of the Coropuna and Chachani volcanic complexes, both located at the western edge of the southern Peruvian Altiplano. Temperature monitoring boreholes were established at 5,217 m at Coropuna and 5,331 m at Chachani, and electrical resistivity was surveyed in both sites. This 7-year discontinuous record of per...

Momentum, heat transfer and mass transfer are transport phenomena in the food industry. the main physical properties of fluids (gases and liquids). such as: viscosity, density, thermal conductivity, diffusivity, determine the behavior of fluids in fluid mechanics. Knowing the properties of the fluids, the appropriate treatment can be applied for their transformation or conservation in the food industry. Viscosity is a property of fluids where it shows its degree of resistance to flow, depending on the magnitude of the force or shear stress that is applied to it. Heat transfer in food processing, heating and cooling are the most common processes in a food processing plant. It is common to find refrigeration, freezing, sterilization, drying and/or curing units in the modern food industry. Material transfer, in food processing it is often possible to select certain chemical reactions by cho...

A solar thermal accumulator is designed and built using the phase change principle, to optimize the drying process in a familiar solar dryer, in an additional period to the cessation of the incidence of solar radiation; the phase change material selected is the commercial paraffin, whose thermal properties have been characterized by the KD2 Pro meter. The melting temperature of the paraffin (53 oC) is around the operating temperature of the medium temperature solar dryer. The solar thermal accumulator is characterized by being modular, consisting of twelve cylindrical units of recycled aluminum, where each unit contains 200 g of paraffin and incorporates meshes with aluminum fins to improve the flow of heat to the outside and optimize its transfer to the air. As a result, the additional drying time has been increased by an order of 2 hours without intervention of solar radiation, maintai...

The fundamentals of a zero-dimensional mathematical are presented model for simulating and diagnosing natural aspiration diesel engines are presented. The model is based on the continuity equation, energy conservation equation and the equation of state. Empirical relations for calculating the heat rejected during combustion and heat transfer to the engine walls are used. During intake and exhaust processes the interchange of gases with the environment is calculated without considering waving phenomena in the engine collectors. The mean pressures and temperatures are calculated as a function of the crankshaft's rotation angles and the instantaneous volume. For the validity of the model, results obtained with experimental values of a mono-cylindrical engine are compared.

In this research it is to select and find the main dimensions of a dryer for organic fertilizer, produced by the company BIOFERT SAC, from a Lagrangian perspective developed in previous studies, which combine heat transfer and mass movement of a individual particle through the dryer. In the first part of the study, a selection process dryer develops, if it is true not only a dryer is right, will choose whichever is more suitable for the type of material to be dried, then a thermodynamic analysis develops dryer to obtain a mass flow and air properties required for drying certain amount of moist product. an algorithm that associates the physical properties of the material with the mass transfer and heat, and has as output the main dimensions of drier (such as diameter and length) is then established. the EES (Engineering Equations Solver) software is a tool widely used in the area of therm...

ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to evaluate diverse and known types of heat transfer fluids (water, oil and glycerin) commonly used in solar thermal systems, in this work denoted as base fluids, with respect to them, but with the addition of biosynthesized metal nanoparticles. It was considered a prototype of solar heating systems by thermosiphon in the application-experimental phase assisted by halogen light (with wavelengths ranging from deep infrared to violet). The process of biosynthesis or green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (NP Ag) was from the precursor of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and using as a reducer the alcoholic extract from agroindustrial residues of the wine production, obtaining colloids with high monodispersity and with sizes between 30 and 40 nm. (spherical geometry). The results suggest a greater increase in heat absorption capacity when biosynthesized silver...
