The Andes is the most biodiverse region across the globe. In addition, some of the largest urban areas in South America are located within this region. Therefore, ecosystems and human population are affected by hydroclimate changes reported at global, regional and local scales. This paper summarizes progress of knowledge about long-term trends observed during the last two millennia over the entire Andes, with more detail for the period since the second half of the 20th century, and presents a synthesis of climate change projections by the end of the 21st century. In particular, this paper focuses on temperature, precipitation and surface runoff in the Andes. Changes in the Andean cryosphere are not included here since this particular topic is discussed in other paper in this Frontiers special issue, and elsewhere (e.g. IPCC, 2019b). While previous works have reviewed the hydroclimate of ...

In situ climatological observations are essential for studies related to climate trends and extreme events. However, in many regions of the globe, observational records are affected by a large number of data quality issues. Assessing and controlling the quality of such datasets is an important, often overlooked aspect of climate research. Besides analysing the measurement data, metadata are important for a comprehensive data quality assessment. However, metadata are often missing, but may partly be reconstructed by suitable actions such as station inspections. This study identifies and attributes the most important common data quality issues in Bolivian and Peruvian temperature and precipitation datasets. The same or similar errors are found in many other predominantly manned station networks worldwide. A large fraction of these issues can be traced back to measurement errors by the obse...

At the present time, as the avocado orchards and vines, are highly profitable, but until now Peru is in a constant struggle to get export more agricultura! products to overseas market. Avocado and Vine have a good acceptance in the European market, has now gotten the Peruvian avocado enter the U. S. market. Thus, the production of avocado and Vine was bom as an interesting altemative business, considering all the health virtues, which are very consistent with changing consumer trends in both U. S. and European Union. This project seeks to determine the technical and economic feasibility of establishing an orchard of 280 acres of Hass avocado and vine variety Reg Glo be in the valley of Chao. This enhancement project drip irrigation, this type of project, have a high cost, even considering high investrnent costs. To achieve a good quality product develops a study of the· Chao valley in t...

This global study, which has been coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization Global Atmospheric Watch (WMO/GAW) programme, aims to understand the behaviour of key air pollutant species during the COVID-19 pandemic period of exceptionally low emissions across the globe. We investigated the effects of the differences in both emissions and regional and local meteorology in 2020 compared with the period 2015–2019. By adopting a globally consistent approach, this comprehensive observational analysis focuses on changes in air quality in and around cities across the globe for the following air pollutants PM2.5, PM10, PMC (coarse fraction of PM), NO2, SO2, NOx, CO, O3 and the total gaseous oxidant (OX = NO2 + O3) during the pre-lockdown, partial lockdown, full lockdown and two relaxation periods spanning from January to September 2020. The analysis is based on in situ ground-based ai...

Narrative journalism usually narrates all kinds of stories and news events, including travel chronicles, which over time have been written by writers and journalists. In these texts, narrativity and the use of literary figures, which serve to provide nuance and enhancement artistic to the chronicle. Some representatives of this type of narration are Bartolomé de las Casas, Pedro Cieza de Leon, Stendhal, Honore de Balzac, Ernest Hemingway and Albert Camus. The objectives of this study are to analyze, compare and establish the style and tools of narrative journalism used by two chronicles that belong to literary journalism, and that correspond to two authors Latin Americans: Alma Guillermoprieto, contemporary author and Rubén Darío, author modernist. They are two chronicles that describe their experiences and what it meansfor them. Each one the trip to Nicaragua (Central American countr...

An extensive evaluation of nine global-scale high-resolution satellite-based rainfall (SBR) products is performed using a minimum of 6 years (within the period of 2000-13) of reference rainfall data derived from rain gauge networks in nine mountainous regions across the globe. The SBR products are compared to a recently released global reanalysis dataset from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The study areas include the eastern Italian Alps, the Swiss Alps, the western Black Sea of Turkey, the French Cévennes, the Peruvian Andes, the Colombian Andes, the Himalayas over Nepal, the Blue Nile in East Africa, Taiwan, and the U.S. Rocky Mountains. Evaluation is performed at annual, monthly, and daily time scales and 0.25° spatial resolution. The SBR datasets are based on the following retrieval algorithms: Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Multisatellite Prec...

In this study, we present the collation and analysis of the gridded land-based dataset ofindices of temperature and precipitation extremes: HadEX2. Indices were calculated based onstation data using a consistent approach recommended by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices, resulting in theproduction of 17 temperature and 12 precipitation indices derived from daily maximum andminimum temperature and precipitation observations. High-quality in situ observations fromover 7000 temperature and 11,000 precipitation meteorological stations across the globe wereobtained to calculate the indices over the period of record available for each station. Monthlyand annual indices were then interpolated onto a 3.75 x 2.5 longitude-latitude grid over theperiod 1901–2010. Linear trends in the gridded fields were computed and tested for statisti...
