Reinforced concrete exposed to high temperatures, such as in a fire, poses a serious threat to buildings by weakening the concrete and reducing the structure's stiffness. Therefore, the article investigated the structural behavior of reinforced concrete when subjected to elevated temperatures in Peru, where many structures are not designed to withstand high temperatures, leading to irreparable damages such as loss of human lives and changes in material properties. To enhance the heat resistance of reinforced concrete, carbon fibers were added, and a percentage of ultra-high-strength concrete was incorporated. The material was analyzed using the finite element method. Different frames were evaluated, focusing on the use of matrices and nodes. The proposal involved adding new materials; carbon fibers were added at 0.06%, and ultra-high-strength concrete at 20%. These quantities were chosen...

One environment that hinders the performance of reinforced concrete is fire. In most cases, this results in the affected part or the entire structure being rendered useless or completely collapsing. When fire mishaps happen in structures, this is the case. This study reviews green structural retrofitting materials for reinforced concrete buildings in an effort to repair damaged structures in an environmentally friendly manner. The information gathered from earlier laboratory test results is assembled to comprehend the impact of room temperature strength properties and varied concrete mix material composition on the residual mechanical properties of concrete. The performance of various fibers, synthetic and natural, as laminate materials for concrete were evaluated, and the study showed that to a significant extent, distressed structural elements could be repaired with retrofits. However,...

The continuous population increase in recent years requires a greater number of households to be built quickly, with good materials and produced under quality standards that guarantee their manufacturing process. The prefabricated concrete, produced and supplied by concrete plants, is poured into the different structural elements, the mezzanine slabs being the most careful surfaces in the appearance of fissures; because being horizontal and having larger dimensions, the dimensional changes in the concrete appear more frequently due to the rapid loss of water from the surface of the concrete before setting; which generates superior stresses to the resistant capacity of the concrete at early ages, which affect the durability and reduce the resistance of the structures, causing greater economic expenses in maintenance and repairs. In the present investigation, 5%, 10% and 15% of rice husk a...

This experimental work hopes to provide a potential solution by proposing techniques to improve the axial resistance capacity of reinforced concrete walls, using high-strength carbon filaments, and proposing a practical methodology for reinforcing existing reinforced concrete columns and walls. The methodology used to improve this work consists of the exploration and experimentation of two explicit parts, the first being a progression of material tests carried out in the laboratories of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, with the purpose of determining the direct mechanical properties. and not direct. The second part of the work included the analysis of the reinforced concrete walls through the non-linear concept modeled with the finite element method, verifying the non-linear attributes of the concrete by increasing the high-resistance carbon fiber. The results found have b...

Chaotic bioprinting enables the fabrication of microstructured hydrogel fibers with co-extruding permanent and fugitive inks using a kenics static mixer (KSM) printhead. However, these fibers degrade completely after 7 days of static culture. Survival of hydrogel constructs for prolonged periods is critical for tissue maturation. Therefore, in this project, chaotic bioprinting was optimized to reinforce multichannel hollow fibers, thereby extending the culture time to enable skeletal muscle tissue maturation. A KSM printhead equipped with eight inlets and two mixing elements was used to print hydrogel fibers with three materials: a bioink suitable to load cells, a sacrificial material to create hollow channels, and a structural material to provide mechanical stability (without cells). Each bioink layer was placed 62.5 µm apart from a hollow channel. Furthermore, the optimal ratio for ea...

The purpose of this research is to characterize the anatomical structure and physical-mechanical properties of the aerial roots of Heteropsis flexuosa "tamshi wire" (Araceae) exposed to different conditions of humidity and aging treatments. The characteristics of the anatomical elements of the roots confirm the presence of three visibly differentiated zones, observing in the non-peripheral stela a large number of compressed fibers that provide resistance to the roots. Regarding the physical tests, the moisture content of the roots in green condition was 84.9% and in dry condition to the air it was of 15.9%; the linear density was 65.09 g / m. The values of the mechanical properties of the roots without aging were lower than those obtained with aging; the elongation was 1.4% and 0.97% compared to the initial length, the TEA (tensile energy absorption) was 31138.07 J / m2 and 15577.4...

In the present study, the incremental static or pushover analysis will be used, since it offers more accurate results compared to the linear analysis. Therefore, its application is indispensable for the evaluation of the seismic performance of a reinforced concrete structure composed of beams, columns and walls. This structure is a multi-family building of 6 levels, rectangular in shape with an area of 120 m2. The methodology used allows obtaining the capacity of the structure against applied lateral loads, thus determining the performance levels for each level of seismic hazard according to the VISION 2000 guidelines. The study begins with an exhaustive analysis of the geometry, structural elements of the building, the use of standards and guidelines related to seismic resistance. However, two 3D structural models were created in Etabs V.21, called model 1 and model 2. In model 1, the n...

The use of concrete bricks in buildings causes 12% of structural failures due to the structural overload generated by masonry walls made with this type of material. In this research, it was proposed to reduce the weight of Type I concrete bricks without affecting their resistance, for which materials such as banana fiber and concrete demolition waste were added to generate a reduction in the weight of the bricks due to to their properties. Similarly, rice husk ash is incorporated to maintain the resistance of the concrete bricks. Four dosages were designed (M0, M1, M2 and M3) with which the different concrete mixtures and bricks were prepared. Concrete control tests were carried out (settlement, temperature, and unit weight), additionally, hardened concrete tests were carried out (warping, absorption, dimensional variation, and weight of the units). In relation to the main objective of t...

Steel Reinforced Grout (SRG) is gaining popularity as a retrofitting system for structural elements due to advantages such as its effectiveness and ease of installation. The good performance of SRG system has turned out to be substantially dependent on the behaviour of the bond between the composite layer and the substrate. This paper presents an experimental study of the bond behaviour of Peruvian masonry strengthened with SRG, along with a characterization of the materials by means of direct tensile tests on the fiber and compression tests on the mortar. The criteria of the sample's geometry, construction and test procedure are discussed for each trial since up to now there has been a gap in the standards that control them. In addition, an analytical model is employed in order to obtain design bond parameters to define a Cohesive Material Law (CML). The strain profile, slip profile, fo...
