Childhood malnutrition and anemia constitute a serious public health problem, driving the search for foods enriched with protein and vitamin supplements to help reduce this issue. In this context, the present research was developed with the objective of creating a protein rich, probiotic, and energy boosting becerage based on mango (Mangifera indica), whey, and Lactobacillus casei. Five treatments were formulated with different proportions of mango pulp and whey (T1: 90/10, T2: 70/30, T3: 50/50, T4: 30/70, and T5: 10/90, with two replicates per treatment. The bererages were inoculated with L. casei, and the pH was monitored every 48 hours for 14 days. Aprogessive decrease in pH from 5.0 - 6.0 to aproximately 4.0 was observed, demonstrating the viability and stability of the probiotic during storage. Regarding protein composition, treatment T5 reached 4.92 g/100 ml of protein, while treat...

The Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) is the total amount of solar energy present per square unit every moment beyond the atmosphere, so it's changing every time along the year, although for many practical purposes its average is taken and has been called: The Solar Constant (1367 W/m2). In this paper, the historical efforts made to quantifcate the TSI are reviewed, the latest advances in this matter are presented and a new method to calculate its monthly average based on the SunSpot Number is proposed to apporach to its value as close as 0.05. W/m2 (RMS = 0.002).

This master thesis is devoted to the design, analysis, and experimental validation of an energy-based control strategy for the well-known benchmark cart-pole system in implicit Port-Hamiltonian (PH) representation. The control scheme performs two tasks: swingup and (local) stabilization. The swing-up controller is carried out on the basis of a generalized energy function and consists of bringing the pendulum trajectories from the lower (stable) position to a limit cycle (homoclinic orbit), which passes by the upright (unstable) position, as well as the cart trajectories to the desired point. The (local) stabilizing controller is designed under a novel algebraic Interconnection and Damping Assignment Passivity-Based Control (IDA-PBC) technique and ensures the upright (asymptotic) stabilization of the pendulum as well as the cart at a desired position. To illustrate the effectiveness of th...

In the competition of the lighting market, LED technology has stood out for excellent characteristics, one of which is the possibility of dimming, compared to other technologies. The dimming capacity allows to find the comfort zone with respect to two parameters, illuminance and correlated colour temperature (CCT). The present work provides a methodology to find comfort with respect to two variables, the level of illumination and the CCT. A controller with a simple structure, supported by Arduino, is proposed to control the above-mentioned variables of LEDs. The LEDs are located on a tape attached to a heat sink. In addition, the use of a light box as an environment for analysis is proposed. The design of this cubicle is based on literature. The controller has the possibility to regulate 12 different channels and the linearity between the PWM output and the illuminance was verified. The ...

Glaciers in Peruvian Andes play an important role for local hydrology. To quantify the availability of glacier meltwater in a climate change scenario, surface energy (SEB) and mass balance (MB) models are required. However, few studies of SEB and MB modeling using coupled process-based models were carried out for this region. In this study, we use the newly updated COupled Snowpack and Ice surface energy and mass balance model in PYthon (COSIPY) in its 2-dimesnional spatially distributed version to simulate energy and mass fluxes over Artesonraju Glacier, Peruvian Andes, from 2016 to 2018. A glacier mass balance program was started at this glacier in 1995, with installation of a network of 22 ablation stakes and two automatic weather stations were started operating since 2005. COSIPY is forced by weather parameters like solar radiation, air temperature, relativity humidity, air pressure,...

Particle physics emerged as a pioneer discipline in "big science"; experiments are being carried out in accelerators that are increasing in energy and complexity by the collaborations of thousands of physicists from hundreds of institutes in a few dozen countries. In "big science" a research methodology has been developed in which statistics is of great importance to interpret the results obtained from these experiments. Despite the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, which contributed to the success of the Standard Model and the award of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics. Based on these motivations, in the present work certain statistical tests based on the “likelihood” method are shown and are applied in high energy physics in the discovery of new phenomena, by making use of the construction of confidence intervals of the model parameters. We focus on properties of methods called ...

Rising electricity prices, concerns about climate change, independence and energy security drive the shift from the global lighting market to more energy-efficient light sources. Lighting, according to estimates by the International Energy Agency (IEA), accounts for almost 20% of the world's electricity consumption. In Peru, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, approximately 35% of primary energy (after processing and / or discounting losses) is destined to electricity generation, which presents important consumption in lighting: Residential Sector 15 % to 30%, Commercial sector approx. 33%, Public sector approx. 24% and industrial sector 10% to 15%. Given these important levels of consumption in lighting systems, transverse use in all sectors, the lack of a comprehensive regulatory policy framework, as well as the need to determine and establish energy efficiency alternatives,...

Cyanidation (leaching with cyanide) is a common yet complex surface process in hydrometallurgical practice, and its effectiveness in extracting the metal of interest is often affected by the nature of the mineralogical species that are present. Little is known about surface processes on acanthite (a silver sulfide) and how its various facets respond to cyanidation in aqueous solution. Therefore, in this work, some properties of both bulk acanthite (Ag2S) and its (001), (022), and (1̅21) surface facets have been studied by density-functional-theory (DFT)-based calculations to elucidate reactivity trends and competitive adsorption (initial stages in the surface process of cyanidation) between cyanide and other species present in the leaching liquor. It is found that CN– binds by its C-end to silver sites on the acanthite surface with adsorption energy similar to that of OH– but strong...

High penetration of renewable energy sources (RES) leads to new challenges for protection devices. Protection schemes are typically designed according to the dynamic behavior of rotating machines as generation sources, while the RES dynamic response, mainly governed by inverters, is not considered. Consequently, some relevant algorithms of transmission line protection are experiencing challenges because of the fact that magnitude and phase angle comparison, amount of negative-sequence, and short-circuit current level are afected by the RES. Therefore, an in-depth study of this issue is necessary, one which considers the main causes and new methodological criteria solutions. This work presents an extensive literature review of the evaluation of electrical protection performance and the efects of RES connected to a power grid through inverters. Technetium-99m generator based on Ti Mo elution has been carried out. The gel matrix was prepared by mixing non-irradiated molybdate with Titanium Chloride solution. Conditions of preparing and drying Ti Mo were evaluated as a function of elution yield. Thus, pH and water content were found highly critical for reproductiveness of the results. Non-elutable form of Tc-99m can be oxidized treating the target after irradiation with K2Cr2O7 0.001M solution. During several experiments the columns were soaked with this oxidizing solution for one hour and afterwards the Ti Mo was washed with 150 ml physiological saline. Daily elutions were done with 10 ml of NaCl 0.9 %. Cooling water reactor during irradiation quartz ampoules has been studied. To study this effect, one group of samples were irradiated in aluminum caps air-tight screw and another one was irradiated in drilled caps with six holes ...
