In this work, we present the development of a numerical scheme based in finite differences for numerical approximation to the solution of a unidimensional coupled linear thermoelastic system. Development the necessaries conditions for stability, consistence and convergence of the numerical scheme. Based in Von Neumann's method, we get the conditions for conditional stability of this algorithm and based in an example we contrast computationally the approximate the approximate solution got, by the finite differences scheme with the analytic solution.

Oslo is a software allow to design optical systems in an interactive graphical environment using an optical elements set such as mirrors, lens, prisms, diafragms, pupils, showing the parameters details of each element which are added succesively to finally obtain the optical system with expected parameters we want to build. In this paper, we compare the theoretical models and OSLO results for the design of an achromatic len, an parallel plates prism and achromatic len with the Scheimpflug condition for validating purposes of the OSLO as a computer didactic tool for teaching geometric and paraxial optics.

A novel Fibre Electronic Characterizer (called Fiber EF) was developed and validated. In the development of the Fiber EF, mechanical, optical, electronic and computer components were used and assembled. For the calibration, validation and evaluation of the potential use in animal fibres samples of well-known diameter patterns were taken from tops of sheep, mohair, alpacas, as well as samples of fibre snippets of vicuñas and alpacas, which were measured before and after calibration with the Fiber EF, OFDA2000 in 100 mode and Laserscan. Snippets (n=299) of unwashed alpaca samples were also measured in the OFDA 2000 and in the Fiber EF under field conditions. The water infiltration analysis in soils is indispensable in order to understand how the moisture variations in the soil occurs in real situations as well as its influence in the engineering properties. However, such analysis requires the unsaturated soil parameters for the computations. These parameters, such as the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity can be estimated by using the soil water retention curve (SWRC). The SWRC governs the hydration and dehydration process in soils. The current research, studies the water infiltrations in a residual soil from Brazil under two unsaturated initial conditions. The analysis was performed by using a finite elements software employing the SWRC of the soil obtained experimentally. The results show that the saturation time is in function of the initial saturation of the soil and the quality of experimental data in the SWRC.

Usually the machinery used in engineering applications, especially those implicating cyclic processes make use of oscillating systems that include components vibrating each one with a particular frequency, in a medium with continuously changing muffling, temperature, etc. As a consequence these vibrations may eventually break the harmony of the common oscillation and experiment chaos. Hence some Chaos notions are critical in this type of applications. This work reports the results of a chaos research in a very frequently applied oscillating system. It is found that chaos is an eventual occurrence. After the system undergoes chaos, it returns to its oscillating stage under the conditions imposed by the medium (muffling, temperature, frequency, etc.) at the moment of leaving chaos. This leads to considering the eventual design of chaos surviving machinery

The aim of this work is to analyze the performance of a drinking water supply system. The data was collected by the city’s water system staff. The water supply system performance was measured using Six Sigma metrics on an EPANET simulation. Initial conditions were compared to future scenarios under implemented changes. The results showed that the current water supply is incapable of satisfying user requirements. The water shortage is not due to a lack of extraction but to losses of up to 43% that occur within the system itself. However, according to the simulation, the system’s capacity can be improved by applying changes to the pumping and distribution conditions. Inspection and maintenance of the network is a priority in order to mitigate large water losses. Increasing extraction would mask the waste problem and lead to an overexploitation of the well.

Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia dos modelos de aprendizagem profunda e das suas extensões com modelos de volatilidade condicional na previsão da volatilidade do Índice Geral S&P/BVL Peru. Métodos: O estudo adotou um desenho analítico não experimental, transversal, para prever a volatilidade do Índice Geral S&P/BVL Peru, analisando 5807 dados de 3 de janeiro de 2000 a 16 de outubro de 2023. Os dados históricos do Índice foram processados utilizando técnicas computacionais em Python. Foram efectuados testes estatísticos tais como o teste Dickey-Fuller aumentado e o teste Jarque-Bera. Para alcançar a estacionariedade dos dados, foi necessário aplicar diferenciação após testes de raiz unitária.
