Purpose. This paper aims to test the hypothesis that the effect of production slowdown on labour demand can be muted by labour hoarding. Design/methodology/approach. This study adopts a production function approach, using data from Malta, a small state in the EU. Findings. The results confirm the hypothesis and indicate that firms are normally prepared to employ and dismiss more workers in the long run than in the short run. Practical implications. This finding has important implications for developed countries, including that labour hoarding can be of certain relevance in times of economic slowdown as shocks are absorbed by internal flexibility. Originality/value. The results of this study add on to the existing literature in two ways. First, this study compares two industries –manufacturing and financial services– for which the former sector received support to hoard labour after t...

If tests, psychological instruments or batteries have in common is something that characterizes its construct validity, that is to say, in this case how the set of variables grouped to measure NEUROPSI Battery? Comparatively analyzed the conceptual elements (variables and indicators) of Attention and Memory NEUROPSI 6-85 years, located in two journals, and found that the battery used in the implementation study was a variant of that in the data sheet instrument.

In 14 women with cervical factor infertility functional postcoital tests preovulatory 30 days, with accurate counts of spermatozoa in mucus cervicaI and intrauterine contents were made. The values are compared with the breasts of 19 women, multiparous. A normal patient and two infertile were followed with serial through a full cycle. Exact quantification of mucus crystallization, made by a new method, proved to be a good criterion for evaluating the cervical penetrability. A intracervical level infertile group results were not significantly different from controls; a slight decrease of mobile sperm directional no practical value. By contrast, intrauterine level in infertile sperm group were detected in only 7 of the 30 cases with very low concentrations; in the control group were 18 of 19 cases. It emphasizes the value of intrauterine sperm count, much higher than intracervical tests. Th...

The functional compounds present in food are essential to prevent certain types of cancer, so it is important to know how they vary in the food during storage. The study was conducted in the Puno region in 2019; the objective of the trial was to evaluate the behavior of functional compounds in two accessions of Isaño: Yana añu (purple-dark color) and Yellow pumpkin with purple eyes during storage at natural conditions 13 ºC and 65 % of relative humidity. The method used to determine the polyphenols was the one described by Folin-Ciocalteu; ABTS to determine the CAOX and visual titration with 2-6 Dichlorophenolindophenol to quantify the vitamin C content. The results show that the Yana añu accession has the highest polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity compared to the yellow pumpkin with purple eyes accession, being these values for polyphenols 24.90 and 15.89 mg AGE.g-1, which ...

This master thesis is devoted to the state estimation of a particular form of PDE systems, coupled parabolic PDEs with spatial dependent coefficients. This form of PDEs represent some dynamic systems such as Tubular Reactors, Diffusion in lithium-ion cells and Diffusive Gradient in Thin Films sensor. Other methods for this problem use "Backstepping" observers, in which the estimation error system is transformed into another system that is stable, reducing the problem to calculate the Kernel functions making the transformation possible. In some cases this calculation is not simple, also the simulation in real time of the observer system, that is also a PDE, can be difficult. The method presented in this thesis uses the properties of the so-called Modulating Functions in order to estimate the states. The procedure con- sists of generating an orthonormal basis of functions that can represen...

This paper addresses a particular scenario of the classic tension between constitutionalism and democracy, one that poses the existence of material limits to the power of constitutional reform. The subject undoubtedly raises a series of perplexities around some aspects such as the legal nature of the constitutional reform power. The essay analizes the defense of implicit material limits when the constitutional text has not explicitly recognized them, the competence and legitimacy of the courts, the normative parameter in merit to which this control would be carried out, among others. In this context, this article proposes to provide an analysis of these issues based on comparative law, exposing the cases of Germany, the United States and Colombia, countries that have provided different answers to the issue of material limits in function of their own constitutional texts and systems, and ...

The purpose of this paper is to study the vibrational behavior of advanced composite plates by using a novel first shear deformation theory (FSDT). This theory contains only four unknowns, with is even less than the classical FSDT. The governing equations are derived by employing the Hamilton's principles and solved via Navier's solution. The present results were validiated by comparing it with the 3D, classical FSDT and other solutions available in the literature. Shear correction factor apper to be unfovarable in some cases (case dependent). Finally, authors recommend further study of this new manner to model the displacement field.

“The potential for the application of metal-containing nanomaterials at the nanoscale promotes the opportunity to search for new methods for their elaboration, with special attention to those sustainable methods. In response to these challenges, we have investigated a new method for green synthesis of cuprous oxide nanoparticles (Cu2O NPs) using Myrciaria dubia juice as an organic reductant and, comparing it with chemical synthesis, evaluating in both cases the influence of the volume of the organic (juice) and chemical (ascorbic acid) reductants, for which a large number of techniques such as spectrophotometry, EDX spectrometry, TEM, SEM, DLS, FTIR spectroscopy have been used. Likewise, the nanomaterial with better morphological characteristics, stability, and size ho- mogeneity has been applied in the functionalization of textiles by means of in situ and post-synthesis impreg- nation...

This study examines the judicialization of reproductive rights in Peru and Chile, focusing on the influence of extralegal factors on judicial decisions related to the distribution of the Emergency Oral Contraceptive (EOC) during the periods 2006-2009 and 2007-2008, respectively. Through a comparative analysis, the study explores the impact of ideology, legal culture, and conservative social movements on judicial decision-making in both cases. The study concludes that these determinants, acting interdependently, function as causal mechanisms in judicial decision-making, explaining shifts in positions and arguments in both Chile and Peru. Additionally, the study highlights that the judicialization of emergency contraceptive methods has had both positive and negative impacts on women’s reproductive rights.

The closed-form solution of a generalized hybrid type quasi-3D higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) for the bending analysis of functionally graded shells is presented. From the generalized quasi-3D HSDT (which involves the shear strain functions “f(ζ)” and “g(ζ)” and therefore their parameters to be selected “m” and “n”, respectively), infinite six unknowns' hybrid shear deformation theories with thickness stretching effect included, can be derived and solved in a closed-from. The generalized governing equations are also “m” and “n” parameter dependent. Navier-type closed-form solution is obtained for functionally graded shells subjected to transverse load for simply supported boundary conditions. Numerical results of new optimized hybrid type quasi-3D HSDTs are compared with the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), and other quasi-3D HSDTs. The...
