Polylepis woodlands are a vital resource for preserving biodiversity and hydrological functions, which will be altered by climate change and challenge the sustainability of local human communities. However, these highaltitude Andean ecosystems are becoming increasingly vulnerable due to anthropogenic pressure including fragmentation, deforestation and the increase in livestock. Predicting the distribution of native woodlands has become increasingly important to counteract the negative effects of climate change through reforestation and conservation. The objective of this study was to develop and analyze the distribution models of two species that form extensive woodlands along the Andes, namely Polylepis sericea and P. weberbaueri. This study utilized the program Maxent, climate and remotely sensed environmental layers at 1 km resolution. The predicted distribution model for P. sericea i...

High-Andean Creole cattle represent a genetic resource with significant adaptive value in high-altitude ecosystems. In this study, 151 Creole cows from the provinces of Canas and Quispicanchis (Cusco, Peru) were evaluated to characterize their morphometry, calculate zoometric indices, and establish functional biotypes. Ten morphometric parameters were measured, and eight structural indices were calculated. Four differentiated biotypes were identified through the multivariate analysis and hierarchical clustering of quantitative variables (BI, BII, BIII, and BIV). Morphological differences were statistically significant (p < 0.05) and associated with different productive orientations. Biotype I showed greater thoracic development and a compact structure, which is compatible with intermediate beefaptitude; Biotype II exhibited more elongated proportions and a lower weight, indicating a dair...

This study is a geochemical investigation of the Andean and Foreland basins of the Amazon River at high spatial and time resolution, carried out within the framework of the HYBAM research program (Hydro-geodynamics of the Amazon Basin). Monthly sampling was carried out at 27 gauging stations located in the upper tributaries of the Amazon Basin (from north to south: the Napo, Marañon, Ucayali, Madre de Dios-Beni and Mamore Rivers). The aim of this paper is to estimate the present-day chemical weathering rate (CWR), as well as the flux of CO2 consumption from total and silicate weathering in the Andes and Foreland Amazon basins, and to discuss their distribution as a function of geomorphic and structural parameters. Based on the forward method, the Napo and other Ecuadorian basins present high silicate weathering rates in comparison with the other basins. We confirm that the Marañon and ...

We assessed the texture profile (TPA), Aw and PH of hot-dog elaborated on the basis of llama meat; We worked with 16 formulations that included different levels of inclusion of egg albumin (AH), Tara Gum (GT) and functional soy Concentrate (CSF). By TPA, cohesiveness, mastication, hardness, gumminess and elasticity were assessed. To evaluate the individual and synergistic effect of the components, the mixture design method was used. It was found that the addition of CSF influenced significantly in hardness (R2 = 0.92) and chewability (r2 = 0.94), while cohesiveness was positively influenced by the greater proportion of GT and AH (r2 = 0.97). On the other hand, the elasticity showed greater magnitude when the proportion of CSF and AH (R2 = 0.90) increased in the mixture. The microbiological barriers of ph and AW were also evaluated, it was observed that the Aw was reduced mainly by CSF an...

This article presents the analysis of indicators of inclusive innovation, on rural entrepreneurs in the Andean highlands of the Tacna region. The objective was to describe perceptions and conditions of inclusive innovation of rural entrepreneurs. There were limitations such as the dispersion of the population in the annexes of the high Andean areas, the users were not in one place, but in the mornings, they stopped in the field and in the afternoons at their homes, which has meant that the time of data collection is 6 months. The sample consisted of 253 people, determined by linguistic saturation, the sample consisted of profiles of people by function or sector of activity supported by the atlas ti program. In-depth semi-structured interviews were carried out with each of the people, these were carried out at home or at the workplace. Permission was requested to record the conversation i...

In the formulation of dried sweet sausage, pork meat and fat are traditionally used, which can be replaced by healthy products such as pecans (Carya illinoinensis) and kañiwa (Chenopodium pallidicaule); as well as llama meat (Lama glama) that is low in fat and cholesterol. For this reason, the present investigation aimed to optimize a formulation of dried sweet sausage considering three main components: llama meat, kañiwa flour and pecans. The D-Optimal mixture design method of the Design-Expert®7 program was applied, obtaining fourteen formulations. For each formulation, color, water activity and texture profile were evaluated. Only the cohesiveness fit a meaningful mathematical model. Subsequently, the optimization of the variable response was carried out, using the desirability function of the "objective value" type, so that the product could resemble the target (sausage made with ...
