Samples of algae M. pyrifera of different sites along sraits of Pucusana, San Bartolo and Ancon, were collected, and made studies of hydrocarbons, being identified the presence of n-alkanes constituted mainly by paraffins of n-C15H32 until n-C30H62. The procedure involved saponification process of lipids and hydrocarbons insolation in n-hexane, purification in silica gel chromatography and identifaction with gas chromatography. The results showed significant differences of the composition of hidrocarbons in the different sampes, being obtained information related to the posible contamination with the petroleum; the hydrocarbons seem be derived of biogenic land and marine sources, evidenced with a strong odd carbon in the n-alkanes.

The aim of this study was to determine the degradability of the association of forages and crop residues commonly used to feed cattle in the Huancavelica Region. The forage associations were white clover-Italian ryegrass and red clover-dactylis, while the harvest residues were maize, oat straw, peas, beans and quinoa. For the determination of the degradability of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF), three rumen fistulated Brown Swiss cattle were used. Samples of forages and harvest residues were placed in nylon bags and incubated for 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours. Time zero (t0) was used for the calculation of the soluble fraction. The DM, CP and NDF degradability were influenced by forages and crop residues (p<0.05). The greater potential degradability of the DM and CP, and effective degradability of the DM, CP and NDF give the white clover-Itali...

Brown tumor (TP) is a benign bone lesion caused by excess osteoclastic activity and hemosiderin deposition as a result of primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism. We present the case of a 71-year-old male patient with a mandibular tumor and bone pain in the lower limbs. He was initially evaluated by the head and neck department who performed excision of mandibular lesion with histological result of giant cells with necrotic and hemorrhagic areas. 3 months later, hypercalcemia was evident, and he was referred to the endocrinology department. The diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism associated with skeletal complications was confirmed and parathyroidectomy was scheduled with histological confirmation of parathyroid adenoma. The present case is of interest because of the initial presentation of primary hyperparathyroidism associated with the presence of a brown tumor as a differential ...

In this work a study of effect of high temperature treatments (70, 80, 90 and 95oC) on color evolution in clarified lemon juices (10, 20, 35, 50 and 64.6oBrix) has been carried out. The evolution of the color with the treatment time has been continued measuring the absorbance at 420 nm (A420) and the parameters CIELab (L*, a* and b*) and color increment E *. The increase of A420 and of the decrease of the brightness L * with the time of treatment it has been observed that they are fitted to a zero order kinetic, what has allowed to obtain the corresponding ones constant kinetic of color deterioration. The evolution of E* has been described by a kinetic model in two steps. The effect of the temperature on these kinetic constants can be quantified by means of the Arrhenius equation, what allows obtaining the corresponding values of activation energy. For the A420 and L* activation en...

This paper presents a study on kinetic and thermodynamic compensation to evaluate the kinetics of non-enzymatic browning of clarified lemon juices. In a previous work, the kinetic constants of browning were presented using the evolution of the absorbance at 420 nm (A420) and luminosity (L*) for different soluble solids contents (64.6; 50; 35; 20 and 10 ºBrix) and different working temperatures (70, 80, 90 and 95 ºC). The parameters of the Arrhenius equation were obtained by fitting the kinetic constants and temperatures. The variation of lnK0 with Ea follows a linear trend, so there is kinetic compensation, with isokinetic temperature values being 126.6 ºC and 149.7 ºC for A420 and L*, respectively. The transition state equilibrium constants were determined using the Eyring equation for each soluble solids content and each temperature. The equilibrium constants were adjusted to the V...

The cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) fruit is climacteric and has a very short postharvest life; the symptoms of senescence include peel browning and fruit softening. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of application of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) in the postharvest life of cherimoya fruit ‘Fino de Jete’. Fruits were randomly selected from the middle and basal part of six trees. BAP was applied at 1.0 mM or 0 mM in every of two dates, that is 8 or 15 days before harvest (DAC). After harvest, fruits were transported for 1.5 h and stored in two different temperatures, refrigerated (TR) (6 °C) or room temperature (TA) (16 ± 2 °C). Every third day, from 1 to 15 day after harvest (DDC), they were analyzed in relation to weight loss, color L*, a* and b*, and fruit firmness and deformation. In TA, the fruits treated with 1 mM BAP in both, 8 or 15 DAC retained peel ...

The aim of this study was to determine the bleaching time of the black and brown fibre with hydrogen peroxide and to evaluate the percentage of medullated fibres according to colour and sampling site in the Huacaya alpaca fleece. In total, 90 fibre samples (shoulder, mid-side area, and rump) were taken from 30 alpacas (10 black, 10 brown, and 10 white). The fibre (2 g) was bleached at different times (5-105 min) with 20 g hydrogen peroxide (40 volume oxygenated cream) and 10 g bleaching powder (High lift 9 Tones). The colorimetric coordinates (L*a*b*) were evaluated at 5, 10, 35, 70 and 105 min in black fibre and at 35 and 70 minutes in brown fibre. After the microscopic analysis, fibre medullation percentage and their standard error were calculated. The luminosity in black fibre is low (5.19 ± 1.78), which increases with bleaching time to 86.60 ± 1.49 at minute 105. The luminosity in ...

We present the results of XRF analyses on a sample of brown wares from Huaca 21 (Middendorf) of the Maranga Complex, which correspond to the Lima culture occupation. The analyses reveal that they are exogenous to Maranga and the coastal region. Furthermore, a formal comparison with ceramics recovered in the middle and upper valleys of Chancay and Chillón suggests that brown wares might have been produced in highland loci and, hence, their presence at Lima sites open a series of inquiries on the nature of coast-highland interactions during the Early Intermediate Period and the beginnings of the Middle Horizon Period in central Perú.

Inbreeding can cause a depression in fertility performance, health and productivity of dairy cows and other animal husbandry species. The aim of this study was to estimate the inbreeding coefficient of Brown Swiss bulls registered in year 2003 and establish the origin of their sires and dam’s sires. Records of 4 generations of 113 pedigree bulls registered in the Peruvian Brown Swiss Association in 2003 were analyzed, processing a total of 3616 pedigree certificates. The computer program Pedigree Viewer 5.5 was used to determine the inbreeding coefficient of these bulls. The average inbreeding coefficient was 3.6%, and 68.2% of the analyzed population had an inbreeding coefficient of less than 4%. Besides, it was observed that 41.2% of the sire’s sires evaluated had Peruvian origin and 41% of the dam’s sires (maternal grandfather) had Peruvian origin too. The inbreeding coefficient...
