The task of the university professor is a mission and not simply a profession and that is why higher education should be impregnated with values. Nowadays education is articulated into three areas: the State, the Market and the Volunteering, but no one of these three sectors by themselves has covered the needs of all the citizens, there have always been losers, therefore the conjunction of the three sectors became necessary. Communitarianism promotes an ethical-social pact that favors the progress of society without nullifying the individual dimension. It believes that the university is the space where a communitarian consciousness should be promoted to generate a social capital by means of education and it is a privilege place to substantiate the moral identity of the person beginning with the commitment of the professor with the university student.

University teachers are involved in a work environment where they interact with people (bosses, colleagues, students, etc.) and situations that can cause stress. The main objective of this research was to know the relationship between psychosocial risk factors and the stress perceived by university teachers. The focus of the work was quantitative, the design was correlational and transversal; the sample consisted of 117 university teachers from Lima, Peru. The results indicated that perceived stress is positively related to psychological demands, active work, compensations and double presence of the teachers; however, an inverse relationship was found between stress and social support received. The data showed that teachers who work by contract have a higher level of stress and that the main symptoms experienced are tiredness, not being able to sleep, headaches, poor concentration and va...

This study aims to know how the training processes of practicing teachers contribute to the construction of beliefs about teaching at the university. Froma qualitative methodology with agrounded theory approach, professors from public and private universities were selected through theoretical sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect data whichwere analytically coded. Among the results it was found that the teachers' beliefs come frominstitutional training of a normative typewhich emphasizes a functional teaching in didactic techniques, use of technology and innovation, excluding training in knowledge of the discipline they teach. Thus,it was also found that teachers carry out self-training processes on a personal initiativefor updating scientific knowledgeand develop their practices teaching with strategies that they themselves use to learn, because they believe in their o...

This study examined the professoriate view of spirituality at a private university in Lima, Peru. A two-phase, sequential mixed method was used. Two hundred forty professors completed Paloutzian and Ellison’s (1982) Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) for the quantitative phase. Five research questions exploring the professors’ gender, general area of teaching (humanities vs. sciences), highest university degree earned, age, and total years of university teaching experience were analyzed to determine if any significant differences existed within those variables. Two non-parametric tests were used: the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis Test. It was discovered only gender showed a significant difference. Five surveyed professors participated in the focus group phase exploring significant gender difference on the spiritual well-being scores. Five questions explored this ...

The present investigation sought to describe the approach to citizen competence in secondary education of the Paraguayan educational system, in order to determine its contribution in the formation of young people, who must participate in a critical, constructive and reflective way in the society that experiences a weak democracy. The study is approached from documentary research, with a qualitative descriptive approach. The findings show that, although citizenship competencies are present in the curriculum, the ways of addressing it in the study programs are not specifically established, as well as, it is inferred that they can be identified as an exclusive requirement for the disciplines of the Social Sciences and not so for the other disciplines that are part of the academic component. The role of teachers is also identified as a weak link, so it is necessary to prioritize teacher trai...

We present an artistic research developed with university students. Under the theme of memories and the idea “Machines have memory, people have memories”, an exhibition was presented at the Computer Museum with the title “The design of memories”, with 22 artistic installations made by students, establishing a dialogue with the museum’ collection. The research seeks pedagogical alternatives from art education, incorporating approaches that investigate social, political and cultural aspects, such as museums, as well as collective creation formats. It is presented as a case study, incorporating teaching narratives, questionnaires, and Arts-Based Research. The positive evaluation of the exhibition leads us to consider this activity as an enriching model in artistic and heritage education, promoting creativity and collaborative work.

The analysis of the conditions in which an individual starts a career in university teaching is the departure point of this work, whose core interest is the initiation period. With previous research about work insertion into the education sector as a reference, this paper discusses the relevance of support provided to staff in the initial stages of their work, as an opportunity to equip them with the training they lack. In that sense, the aim of this article was to describe the initiation experiences taking place during the first years of teaching of a group of five professors, with whom semi-structured interviews were carried out. A finding was that the work and training experiences of the professors at the time they started working at the university worked as resources to face the challenges presented by the educational task. In the same way, the direct experience and the models obtain...

This research is focused on the description and analysis of the initial training received by primary education teachers in Andalusia in connection with work in culturally diverse contexts. To this end, a qualitative method design with a descriptive and interpretive approach was chosen, using documental and content analysis as a research technique. This allows the identification and study of references to cultural diversity, explicit and implicit, present in the different dimensions of analysis: objectives, competencies, contents, learning outcomes, formative strategies and evaluation systems. The results indicate that, although all the curricular designs examined include references to cultural diversity, these references are scarce. Additionally, planning and coordination in relation to the intercultural competencies acquisition process is not observed, nor their crosswise treatment alo...

This paper presents a reflection and proposal on the opportunity to recover the study of the image of letters in the Primary School Teacher Training. Theoretical references are discussed, the historical perspective is studied, and the used methodology is eminently qualitative, incorporating Arts-Based Research. The objective is to analyze what typography can promote the cultural awareness of teachers. A study carried out in the degree classrooms of the Universitat de València is described. The results reveal that there is great potential in the use of typography among future teachers, if we are able to recover the lost tradition of calligraphy as drawing, updating it according to the needs of the digital universe.
