It is well known that stability is the most important safety requirement for ships. One must have good information about the stability of the ship in the preliminary design phase to reduce risks. The initial stability of the ship is an important criterion and can be closely evaluated in terms of the shape parameters and the vertical center of gravity. In this study, using some ship data, approximate formulations are deduced through regression analysis for calculations expressed in terms of the ship's preliminary design parameters that can easily provide the approximate GM calculations. Thus designers can provide the stability of the ship in the preliminary design phase and also a set of appropriate design parameters to improve the stability of the ship that can be easily determined.

A large part of the accidents with fishing boats are due to problems of transversal stability during the fishing task, in which the boat lists at large angles, and many times, failing to recover, capsizes. In the studies and expert reports carried out by the Insurers, the conclusion is generally reached that the vessel exceeded its stability limit. This stability limit in some cases may not have been evaluated correctly. This work discusses the efficiency of the transverse static stability calculation used in the design of ships and fishing vessels of the Peruvian fleet, based on the traditional stability cross curve diagrams that condition the trim of the vessel to remain unchanged. The calculations carried out by the traditional method are compared with others carried out using a free trim calculation method, based on the concept of hydrostatic balance of floating bodies. The calculati...

This paper describes the methodology used to predict the behavior presented by a displacement boat when it sails in certain sea conditions. It is important that the naval engineer determines this behavior in the design phase of the boat, because this way you can evaluate the adverse performance, such as the rise of the propellant, shipping water on deck, slamming and excessive accelerations vertical. The harmful effects described above are predicted by the response spectra of the vessel for a given sea condition and for a given movement. The procedure used for obtaining Response Spectra consists of overlapping Unitary Operator Response in regular waves for a given vessel movement (RAO) and the energy spectrum of Pierson-Moskowitz, used to represent the sea in a certain condition. The operator of the boat united response was determined using a Dynamic Vessel program based on the Th...

The detection of marine vessels for revenue control has many tracking deficiencies, which has resulted in losses of logistical resources, time, and money. However, digital cameras are not fully exploited since they capture images to recognize the vessels and give immediate notice to the control center. The analyzed images go through an incredibly detailed process, which, thanks to neural training, allows us to recognize vessels without false positives. To do this, we must understand the behavior of object detection; we must know critical issues such as neural training, image digitization, types of filters, and machine learning, among others. We present results by comparing two development environments with their corresponding algorithms, making the recognition of ships immediately under neural training. In conclusion, it is analyzed based on 100 images to measure the boat detection capab...

The histological changes of the brain and of the other organs of the patient who was admited to the Psycopathic Hospital de la Magdalena del Mar, has been studied. The patient was admited to the hospital thirty years ago with the diagnosis of Demencia Precox. The discharge diagnosis was Maniac Psychosis. The examination showed lesions of Luetic endoarteritis of the small vessels of the cortex, an entity which was first studied in 1903 by Nissl and Alzheimer. It has been demostrated alterations in the vessels, meninqes, ganglion cells, and gliotic elements of the brain, and structural changes of the other organs. The predominant changes in the meninges are of a chronic and acute character. The former are old "alterations together with vascular sclerosis. The latter are peri-vascular infiltrations of phagocitic wandering cells in which it is frequent to find dense el elements of angular co...

In the 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus, the majority of patients present general and respiratory symptoms, some atypical gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, dermatological or neurological symptoms. In the case report of a 40-year-old male patient, without any important epidemiological history, diagnosed with COVID-19 by rapid immunological test, who presents with a sudden ischemic stroke. In the CT scan of the brain without contrast, a large ischemic area is evident in the left cerebral hemisphere in the middle cerebral artery territory, accompanied by edema. In patients with COVID-19, infected with the SARSCoV2 coronavirus, the possibility of the patient having a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) should be taken into account, to allow adequate and timely management.

The formation of a fistula between large caliber arteries and the digestive tract is an uncommon complication of reconstructive surgery of the large vessels secondary to the use of vascular prostheses, which manifest themselves with massive hemorrhages with high mortality. We report two cases of aorto-enteric fistula and carotid-esophageal fistula that share common characteristics such as the clinical manifestation of massive and fatal gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with a history of vascular prosthesis placement.

This research has allowed us to observe the ballast water management conditions in our first port and its impact on the health of maritime vessel workers, appreciating the procedures of the on-board personnel. In this study it is observed if compliance with regulations and aspects that are evaluated and interpreted to understand the nature of the problem are considered, with respect to people and the core is the exposure due to ignorance or negligence, to propose the instruction of the personnel to prevent unfortunate events from occurring. That is the object of the study to analyze the conditions, both of vessels and of people with respect to this issue that today is an important cause of concern in people, referring to the management or handling of ballast water and that the present study described in the best possible way. The objective of the investigation was to appreciate...

In the last two years, the percentage of cases in Peru linked to diarrheal diseases in children has been considerably reduced, demonstrating that even in difficult times health must always be our greatest strength. Of course, fulfilling this desire requires that all Peruvians have access to treated water sources to comply with their personal hygiene duties. However, nearly 3 million Peruvians live without access to drinking water and leave their health to the fate of natural water sources with high probabilities of containing bacteria and viruses. Under this premise, the purpose of this thesis was to show the effectiveness of an alternative water sterilization treatment that could be of great help to these Peruvians in need. A methodology based on the 'electroporation' technique was developed through the application of low and high intensity electric field pulses, seeking to damage the c...

The reporting system for fishing vessel and crew casualties in Peru needs a disruptive change in order to know what the risks in terms of marine safety are, who should manage them, and how they should be managed. According to a technical review on accidents recorded by the Peruvian Direction of Captaincies and Coast Guards (DICAPI), it is evident there is a need to process the available information on casualties of fishing vessels and crew in the fishing industry since this information is not easy to analyze. Nevertheless, this paper provides the casualties reported between Citation: Mantari, J.; Ramirez, J.; Figueroa, E.; Huerta, J.; Cipriano, W.; Amaya, D.; Cuba, L.; Guedes Soares, C. The impact of drought on vessel architecture and function has been broadly assessed for a variety of tree species in the last decades, but the hydraulic plasticity under temperature increase has scarcely been studied. The effect of drought on tree-ring width and specific hydraulic conductivity depends on relict-tree species resilience to climatic adaptability and its wood anatomical responses to climatic oscillations. We assessed the vessel architecture adaptation of two threatened Peruvian Andean Polylepis species (P. rodolfo-vasquezii and P. tarapacana). We found that historical Peruvian drought years differentially affected Polylepis species, where P. rodolfo-vasquezii showed vessel anatomical features significantly sensitive to drought events when contrasted with P. tarapacana. The drought effect influenced the capacity of Polylepis species to adjust the tree-ring width and vessel an...

Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is thought to result from an unbalanced exchange of blood through inter-twin vascular anastomoses. Laser photocoagulation of communicating vessels has been used to prevent the development of the syndrome. Some authors have proposed that vessels crossing the membrane are “suspicious” to participate in the development of the syndrome and the laser photocoagulation of these vessels would reverse the syndrome. We present two cases of TTTS where the communicating vessels did not cross the dividing membrane, which were successfully treated with laser.

Archaeological research on Moche funerary contexts on the North Coast of Peru has focused on establishing the Moche social hierarchy, identifying rulers, priests or warriors according to the sumptuous objects displayed by the buried figures. However, the offerings of vessels, usually grouped around the deceased, which have been intentionally selected, have not been studied. This research aims to determine the social implications in the selection of offerings from vessels from Tombs 1 and 3 of Huaca el Pueblo-Úcupe. Two elite funerary contexts from the Middle Mochica phase, containing an adult man and an infant with 56 and 28 complete vessel offerings respectively. Through a morphological and decorative analysis, we conclude that the selection of vessels was made according to social canons of identity and religion.
