The study evaluated the repeatability of the superovulatory response in 12 Australian Merino ewes during the breeding season in one (G1), three (G2), and four (G3) consecutive years. A modified protocol was used based on 200 mg pFSH in eight decreasing doses (12-h intervals) and supportive strategies such as changing the CIDR at day 7, spraying the horns with heparinized saline during the procedure, and use of Flunixin Meglumine. No significant differences were found in the total number of structures recovered during the years of application of the superovulation protocol (G1=8±2, G2=18±3, G3=19±4; p>0.05). High repeatability was observed, both for the total number of embryos and for the number of transferable embryos in G2 and G3. Superovulatory treatment for 3 and 4 successive years did not affect the efficacy of embryo retrieval.

This paper is a study of the spillover effects of U.S. macroeconomic news on different sectors of the Australian stock market. We find that an indication of economic contraction from the United States raises the conditional mean, and most news elicits associated volatility in the Australian stock market. We further document that different sectors respond differently to U.S. news. For example, U.S. news has the strongest effect on the first two moments of the Australian Industrials and Property Trusts stock returns and the least impact on the Materials sector. Furthermore, we document that while U.S. news has been absorbed relatively quickly on the conditional mean, the volatility impact is somewhat persistent.

We use the pointwise Lipschitz constant to define an upper Lyapunov exponent for maps on metric spaces different to that given by Kifer ['Characteristic exponents of dynamical systems in metric spaces', Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems 3(1) (1983), 119-127]. We prove that this exponent reduces to that of Bessa and Silva on Riemannian manifolds and is not larger than that of Kifer at stable points. We also prove that it is invariant along orbits in the case of (topological) diffeomorphisms and under topological conjugacy. Moreover, the periodic orbits where this exponent is negative are asymptotically stable. Finally, we estimate this exponent for certain hyperbolic homeomorphisms.

This article analyzes credit risk in the financial sector and proposes a methodology to improve its prediction accuracy using boosting algorithms such as XGBoost, LightGBM, and Boosted Random Forest. Datasets from the UCI Machine Learning Repository were used, including Statlog German Credit Data, Australian Credit Approval, and Bank Marketing. The methodology involved feature engineering, exploratory data analysis, and hyperparameter tuning. Additionally, a complementary strategy using K-means clustering was implemented to enhance the data. The results show that XGBoost outperforms the other models in various scenarios, and boosting-based methods deliver better performance than traditional approaches like decision trees and factorization machines—offering valuable insights for financial institutions.

Latin America is a violent region where fear of crime is well spread but still not fully understood. Using multilevel methods for a large and subnational representative household survey (N = 271,022), we assess the determinants of fear of crime in Peru, the country with the highest fear of crime and crime victimization in the region. Our results show that body-aimed victimization (physical or sexual abuse from a member of their household, and sexual offenses) is the strongest driver of fear of crime, even higher than armed victimization. Moreover, safety measures based on social capital are negatively related to fear of crime, suggesting that they are palliatives rather than real protections. El médico veterinario de especies menores se enfrenta, a menudo, con el reto de atender pacientes silvestres. Esta situación requiere que los clínicos de animales de especies menores tengan competencias y conocimientos especiales que les permitan resolver los casos. Con el objeto de generar información sobre las especies silvestres que son llevadas a las clínicas veterinarias en Guatemala, se realizó una encuesta de opinión a médicos veterinarios que practican la clínica de especies menores. Recientes excavaciones en el complejo de Tambokancha por parte del Proyecto Peruano-Australiano Jaquijahuana han realizado notables descubrimientos de nuevos patrones de estructuras arquitectónicas inkas. El complejo, ubicado al oeste del Cuzco, está ubicado en una terraza aluvial y comprende enormes muros de mampostería de piedra y adobe, entre los que se encuentran grandes torreones y kallankas. Por fortuna no tiene evidencias de saqueo aunque sí se han desmontado sus bloques para usarlos en construcciones posteriores. Aún así, el sitio muestra una gran monumentalidad y es uno de los sitios inkas más atípicos en términos de su planificación y trazado. Destacan, entre sus características, una alineación en forma de "cruz", que atraviesa el núcleo del conjunto, mientras que el plano general es único, ya que tiene la forma de un tumi o cuchillo ceremonial.

Veterinary practitioners of small species are often faced with the challenge of treating wild species patients. This situation requires that the clinicians of animals of these species have special skills and knowledge that allow them to solve cases. To generate information about wild species that are taken to veterinary clinics in Guatemala, an opinion survey was conducted to veterinary practitioners in small animal clinics. A total of 143 professionals participated (1:1 gender ratio).
