This article analyses religious and spiritual coping of negative and stressful events such as the loss of a loved one. The study case of a religious catholic woman who lost a loved one is part of my Docthoral Thesis (an exploratory and descriptive study done with religious persons of different creeds), where it was verified that prayers, meditation, spiritual healing, funerary rituals and social support promote positive effects and physical, psychological, mental and spiritual well- being of religious people who mourn the loss of a loved one.

The movie El castillo de la pureza, by Arturo Ripstein (1972), is based on a real event that took place in Mexico City in 1959. The objective of the article is to describe the context of the event, inscribed in the police annals of the Mexican Capital and how such a sordid story (according to our perspective) could be adapted to the screen as a “love story”, highlighting the work of the screenwriter José Emilio Pacheco (JEP). A first reading of the film shows us the confinement of a family (forced by the father) and that the isolation from the outside world is accepted by the wife as an almost divine plan of the one who loves and respects blindly. Our intention is to deepen this view by offering an analysis of the information from the press of the time, from excerpts from the script, as well as scenes from the film and the frames corresponding to the chosen sequence that I have named...

Among the letters preserved in the archive of the indigenous Salinas Grandes settlement, a love letter was found. This letter had immediately a didactic, and mediately an exemplary function, like the others in the notebook that it was part of, which gives these letters an outstanding cultural value, since it deals not only with the mere use of writing, but also with the efforts of the indigenous society to ensure its preservation in the future. The love letter is an effect of the introduction of writing into the indigenous society and gives us access to profound transformation processes that were taking place within the Pampas and Patagonian societies at the time of the military conquest.

The present study aimed to apply a network analysis model to provide an exploratory empirical conceptualization of dynamic networks of posttraumatic growth (PTG) symptoms in 7,434 people who experienced the death of a loved one from COVID-19 in 16 Latin American countries. The Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory: Short Form of Eight Items was used. A non-regularized network with partial correlation coefficients was estimated through the ggmModSelect algorithm. The network architecture was analyzed for each country through its local properties and global properties. The results indicated that the networks differed significantly between countries. The core dimensions in the networks were relating to others, personal strength, and life value and opportunities, which were more related dimensions that reinforce the emergence of PTG in all countries. The findings may be useful to motivate research...

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Grief Impairment Scale (GIS) using a network psychometric model. A total of 1048 individuals from Peru and El Salvador participated. A network psychometric model was used to determine internal structure, reliability, and cross-country invariance. The results indicate that the GIS items were grouped into a single network structure through Exploratory Graph Analysis. Reliability was estimated by structural consistency, and it was found that when replicating the network structure within an empirical dimension, a single network structure was consistently obtained, and all items remained stable. Furthermore, the network structure was invariant, thus functioning similarly across the different country groups. In conclusion, the GIS presented solid psychometric evidence of validity based on its internal structure, reliability, and c...

Introduction: Worldwide, anxiety and depression are the most common mental disorders, both in clinical settings and in the general population. The Patient Health Questionnaire-4 is the most widely used open access instrument to assess anxiety and depression in both clinical and community settings. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the psychometric evidence of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4). Method: 1015 Peruvian individuals between 18 and 69 years old (M=26.4, SD=9.93, 58.6% women) who experienced the death of a loved one participated. Techniques derived from Classical Test Theory and Item Response Theory (IRT) were used. Results: Three models were tested: one-dimensional (CFI = 0.989; TLI = 0.966; RMSEA = 0.075), the two-factor model (CFI = 1.000; TLI = 1.000; RMSEA = 0.000) and the bifactor model which did not converge. The two-factor model was the one that came closest t...

Background: Anticipatory grief is the process that some people go through before the death of a loved one or their death is confirmed. It occurs when several circumstances lead to the expectation that sooner or later a loved one, such as a relative, a partner or a friend, is going to die. Objective: The objective of the study was to find out what are the stress coping strategies and the personal care and caregiver factors that benefit, or put at risk, grieving in informal caregivers of the elderly. Method: 272 informal caregivers participated. The Caregiver Grief Scale by Meichsner et al. (2016) and the Brief Coping Scale to Stress (COPE 28) by Carver (1997) were used. Results: The results show that anticipatory grief is influenced by coping: emotional pain due to coping based on support (OR = .236) and on avoidance of emotion (OR = 3.751), and being in care all day (OR = 3.061). Emotion...

The task entrusted to me is a difficult one, because it involves much consternation and deep reflection. It is difficult because I must say goodbye, on behalf of all of us, to a very dear and respected friend who was a member of Quintaesencia magazine. It is, because I am overcome with pain, I am overcome with the nostalgia of losing a co-worker. Today is a sad day, a very sad day that takes us to unforgettable memories, accompanied by pleasant and very meaningful moments; to tell the truth: we feel the absence of a loved one. We regret the sudden departure of Dr. Humberto Guillermo Garayar Tasayco, due to COVID-19, a young, dynamic, enthusiastic and committed professor. It is very difficult to accept the fatal outcome of our friend; therefore, we are forced to share the despair, to support us in the pain, and pay a just compliment to Dr. Humberto.

He studies a cartography of three themes that underlie César Moro’s poetry, specifically the Equestrian Turtle (1957) and Letters to Antonio (1938-1939). In the first, the “metaphor of Love” is analyzed in which the gestation of love is established, and the loving lyrical speech of a loved one, Erómenos, towards a lover, erastés. In the second, the concept of the “Discourse of the Master”, which shows a hierarchy and subordination of power between the actuators, the master and the Slave, which generates various implications inserted as a axis of poetic functioning; From this, it is mentioned the idea of a great literary letter that wanted to make the author of Amour à mort, as can be collected and inferred in texts written during the Mexican period (1938-1948). Finally, it analyzes the Letters to Antonio, on topics such as the camouflage with the reality, the mythical thoug...

Since its invention, photography has allowed us to build a visual memory of the vital events of our existence and among them the death of a loved one as one of the most dramatic memories that allows us to remember the family member and in turn reminds us of our own inevitable destination. During the 19th and 20th centuries, a practice known as postmortem photography was developed, which was brought from Europe to America, where it developed with its own nuances. In its beginnings, photography was reserved for the most privileged social classes, while the less affluent social classes allocated their resources to preserve the first and only image of the deceased person, which is why this practice had enormous social and psychological importance. This article shows four postmortem portraits of subadult individuals whose data is found in the first two decades of the 20th century in Peru.
