Chinese-style FTAs in South America have proved to be unique in three respects: first, due to China’s continued classification as a non-market developing economy at the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Chile-China and Peru-China FTAs technically classify as South-South deals. Yet, the nature of exchange between China and these two South American countries is based on a traditional pattern of comparative advantage more akin to North-Southtrade relations at the turn of the 20th century whereby these South American countries export primary goods to China and import manufactures back. China as an emerging power seeks to promote its culture, language, view of the world, that is, its soft power. In the case of Peru, a country with a significant presence of Chinese immigrants, a long history of relations, and increasing important in trade, through the establishment of Confucius Institute and other actions China try to reinforce its traditional good image that has in Peru. This article analyze the Chinese efforts to increase its soft power in Peru. Keywords: China’s Soft power, Confucius Institute, Peru China trade relationship, Chinese immigration to Peru.

The present report will show that in 10 years time, China’s banking industry would still be dominated by Chinese firms. Analyzing the future competitive environment in China’s banking industry, we can see from the different sources that the non-market environment (mainly governmental policy) will drive the trends of the future (see p.18). Thus, only if the government continues to open industries, like banking, to foreign investment (see p.20), will we see an increase from the current 2% market share of multinational banks. The author classifies constitutional control models in the world inthree groups: Constitutional Court model, judicial revision and parliamentary control. China’s model is the last one. Then, underlines, two main goals of constitutional control: human rights protection and constitutional control of the legal system. Finally, suggests a debate about which body should bein charge of the constitutional control, whether that important work shall continue under the National People’s Congress, become a non legislative body or if it shall stay in charge of China’s Superior Court.

The interest of China in Latin America has increased and it is planning to double its trade and investment with the region by the year 2025.In this article we analyze the latest developments regarding China interest in the región and in the case of Peru we see an increasing interest of China in investment in the primary sector, Also the possibiity of Peru becoming a hub of China in the region is analyzed. Besides, the growing interest of China in investment in other áreas, as in infrastructure, nuclear energy and agriculture is showed.

En un contexto de búsqueda de desarrollo económico bajo la globalización, el Perú se ha dirigido activamente en el comercio exterior, mediante alianzas y la incursión en nuevos mercados. Un ejemplo significativo de esto es el Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) firmado con China en 2009, orientado a fortalecer lazos con una de las economías más desarrolladas y a impulsar la actividad comercial, especialmente en el ámbito de los productos no tradicionales. No obstante, se ha observado que estos tratados pueden conducir a una especialización en sectores de bajo contenido tecnológico, resultando en la primarización de la economía. Este artículo analiza el mejoramiento de la calidad institucional del Estado como un factor definitivo del éxito económico de China, obtenido mediante el logro de metas económicas intermedias. La teoría convencional respecto a las fuerzas del mercado como el único determinante de la liberalización no explica cabalmente el auge económico chino. En este artículo se verá el estado de los estudios sobre China en el Perú. El país asiático cada vez es más importante para la economía peruana y el estudio sobre ese país, que tradicionalmente estaba concentrado en la inmigración china al Perú, en los ultimos años está viendo estudios sobre la relación comercial Perú-China también, además se ve un mayor interés en el idioma y cultura china. Todo esto indicaría que en el futuro habrá un mayor énfasis en la relación económica entre ambos países y se tendrá expertos en el tema con mayor conocimiento del idioma chino también.

In this article a look is given to the state of china studies in Peru. the asian country is becoming more important to the Peruvian economy now, and the traditional emphasis on studies of chinese immigration to Peru is given way to studies about Peru-china economic relationship. In the future more studies on this theme will be seen with the addition that a group of experts with knowledge of chinese language will appear.
