Sumario:This quantitative research study is correlational and cross-sectional descriptive. Was conducted with preschool children and their mothers from four institutions of early childhood education sector Manuel Arevalo II Stage -La Esperanza, 2014, in order to determine the relationship between maternal factors: age, level of education, monthly family income and practices food of mothers and nutritional status of preschoolers. The sample consisted of 150 preschool children between 3 and 5 years of age and their mothers. A survey of maternal factors and the record of assessment of nutritional status of preschool: To collect data two instruments are applied. The results were statistically processed and presented in graphs and tables of single and double entry. Information is statistically tabulated by testing independence criteria Chi square ( x2 ) , reaching the following results: In relation to maternal factors , it is evident that 66 % corresponds to the group of young adult mothers , 60% have a degree of secondary education , 65 % had a regular monthly family income , and 56% have good dietary practices . The nutritional status on Indicator P / T 41% had normal nutritional status , 29% overweight , 21% acute malnutrition , 2% severely malnourished and 7% obesity on Indicator P / E the 51 % had normal nutritional status , 29% overweight and 20 % malnutrition on Indicator T / E 57% had normal size , 32% stunted and 11% high stature . Significant relationship between monthly family income and food practices of mothers and nutritional status of preschool (p < 0.05) was found, but there is not any relationship with the variables age and education level of mothers.
