Finalmente, se obtuvo 19 investigaciones que fueron incluidas en la revisión sistemática. Se hizo la tabulación de datos con Microsoft Excel. Resultados: sechium edule contiene metabolitos secundarios en diversas partes de la planta, aunque las concentraciones varían según la muestra y el método experimental. Su actividad farmacológica incluye propiedades antibacterianas, cardiovasculares y efectos sobre el sistema nervioso central. A nivel toxicológica, se han desarrollado estudios tanto in vivo como in vitro, reportando baja toxicidad Conclusión: sechium edule mostró una diversidad de compuestos fitoquímicos, como flavonoides, alcaloides y terpenoides, con reconocida actividad biológica. Su potencial farmacológico incluyó efectos antibacterianos, hipotensores antioxidantes, antiinflamatorios y antimicrobianos. También se identificaron posibles beneficios sobre la salud cardiovascular y hepática. Sin embargo, en la toxicidad, se advirtió que el consumo excesivo de hojas y raíces podría generar efectos tóxicos.

Sin embargo, en la toxicidad, se advirtió que el consumo excesivo de hojas y raíces podría generar efectos tóxicos.Objective: to present scientific evidence on the phytochemical compounds, pharmacological properties, and toxicological aspects of Sechium edule (Chayote), based on primary sources. Materials and Methods: A total of 68 primary-source studies were analyzed using a qualitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. Finally, 19 studies were included in the systematic review. Data were tabulated using Microsoft Excel. Results: sechium edule contains secondary metabolites in various parts of the plant, although concentrations vary depending on the sample and experimental method. Its pharmacological activity includes antibacterial properties, cardiovascular effects, and actions on the central nervous system. In terms of toxicology, both in vivo and in vitro studies have been conducted, reporting low toxicity. Conclusion: sechium edule exhibited a diversity of phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids, all with recognized biological activity. Its pharmacological potential included antibacterial, hypotensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Possible benefits to cardiovascular and liver health were also identified.
