The search equation used was ("functional food" or "functional product") and ("food development" and health) and not (animals or animals). The R biblioshiny package was used to quantify the data. The results revealed an increase in scientific research on FF, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the interest in strengthening the immune system. The research shows significant collaboration between countries, highlighting China, the United States, and Brazil as leaders and institutions such as Zhejiang University and the University of São Paulo as influential. Consumer acceptance of FF depends on factors such as ingredients, price, and sensory characteristics. Clear communication about the benefits and limitations of FF is essential for guiding food choices, along with the need for rigorous research and clinical trials to support their health properties. Although FF has a significant potential to improve health, promoting healthy eating habits remains fundamental to healthy overall well-being.El desarrollo y consumo de alimentos funcionales (AF) han ganado relevancia en respuesta a los hábitos alimentarios modernos y sus efectos en la salud pública. Este estudio evaluó las perspectivas actuales de los AF en diferentes países y su promoción en la salud mediante una revisión bibliométrica y de alcance en la base de datos Scopus, seleccionando 52 documentos relevantes de los últimos 15 años. La ecuación de búsqueda fue ("Functional food" Or "Functional product") And ("Food development" And Health) And not (Animal or Animals). Se utilizó el paquete biblioshiny de R para cuantificar la información. Los resultados revelan un aumento en la producción científica sobre AF, especialmente durante la pandemia de COVID-19 debido al interés en fortalecer el sistema inmunológico. La investigación muestra una colaboración significativa entre países, destacando a China, Estados Unidos y Brasil como líderes e instituciones como la Universidad de Zhejiang y la Universidad de São Paulo como influyentes. La aceptación de los AF por parte de los consumidores depende de factores como ingredientes, precio y características sensoriales. Es esencial una comunicación clara sobre los beneficios y limitaciones de los AF para guiar las elecciones alimentarias, junto con la necesidad de investigaciones y ensayos clínicos rigurosos para respaldar sus propiedades saludables.
