Anemia and house calls among children treated in Primary Healthcare Centers of Lima Norte : Anemia y visita domiciliaria en niños atendidos en establecimientos del primer nivel de Lima Norte

Objectives: Knowing the levels of anemia and the proportion of children who received timely treatment and House Calls among children under three years of age attended at a Primary Healthcare Center of Lima Norte.  Materials and methods: Descriptive study based on a secondary source. Data were collected from the registry and follow-up of children with anemia corresponding to 2018 and the first quarter of 2019. Results: The analysis was carried out with 236 children, with a mean age of 11.82 months (SD: 5.82, range: 6 to 30), 56.8% (n = 134) represented by men and the remaining fraction by women. A 74.2% (n = 175) resulted with mild anemia and 25.8% (n = 61) with moderate anemia. A 97.9% received the first dose of ferrous sulfate; descending progressively from the second dose to 4.2% for the sixth dose. The house calls, at the beginning of the treatment, was performed in 13.1%, progressively reducing until the sixth month. Conclusion: The majority of children had mild anemia, a high proportion had timely access to the first dose of treatment and decreased markedly in the sixth dose. The coverage of the house calls was low. Greater participation of health professionals is suggested, and strengthened house calls to ensure the treatment of anemia.
