Resúmenes extendidos.5 páginasEl complejo volcánico Ampato-Sabancaya (CVAS) está localizado a 60 km al NO de la ciudad de Arequipa ((71° 49’–71° 54’ W; 15° 46’–15° 52’ S),) en la Cordillera Occidental de los Andes del Sur del Perú (Fig. 1), la cual forma parte de la Zona Volcánica Central de los Andes (CVZ). El CVAS descansa sobre una altiplanicie lávica e ignimbrítica de edad Miocénica (Klinck et al., 1993), y está constituido por un volcán compuesto de edad Plesitocénica, el Ampato (6280 msnm); y un volcán eminentemente lávico, de edad Holocénica, construido en la parte NE del complejo, el volcán Nevado Sabancaya (5967 msnm.). Reportes históricos señalan que el Sabancaya ha experimentado importantes erupciones en el siglo XVIII, siendo su último período eruptivo el ocurrido recientemente, entre los años 1988 y 1997. El CVAS colinda con el extremo sur del volcán Hualca Hualca (6025 msnm.), un estratovolcán erosionado probablemente de edad Plio-Plestocénica. El presente estudio tiene por objeto caracterizar la composición geoquímica de las rocas de este complejo y de identificar los principales procesos petrogenéticos responsables de la diversidad geoquímica observada.
