In the new century, the leading role of education as a social and transformative phenomenon for the survival of the human species is urgent, in response to the emergence of environmental problems as a result of the aggressive interaction of man with natureand the society in which he develops, with the existence of serious ecological problems expressed in the worsening of the environment caused by natural events and disasters, the irrational exploitation of natural resources, the increase of industrialization, excessive urbanization, migration and the population explosion.

En el  nuevo siglo urge el papel protagónico de la educación como fenómeno social y transformador para la supervivencia de la especie humana, atendiendo al surgimiento de problemas ambientales como resultado de la interacción agresiva del hombre con la naturaleza y la sociedad en que se desenvuelve, con la existencia de  graves problemas ecológicos expresado en el empeoramiento del entorno causado por hechos y desastres naturales, la explotación irracional de los recursos naturales, el incremento de la  industrialización, la excesiva urbanización, migraciones  y la explosión demográfica.
