Objectives: To describe the experience with polypropylene monoprothesis use for anterior vaginal wall prolapse repair with or without urinary incontinence. Design: Retrospective, longitudinal, series of cases study. Setting: Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. Participants: Patients operated for anterior vaginal wall prolapse. Interventions: All 44 patients operated of anterior vaginal wall prolapse during 2008 consulted for sensation of vaginal bulk and 93,2% for loss of urine. Pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POPQ) determined 93,2% corresponded to III and IV degrees. Main outcome measures: Vaginal prolapse and stress urinary incontinence cure. Results: All 44 patients had surgical treatment of anterior vaginal prolapse with polypropylene mesh and placement of intravaginal posterior sling, 19 (43,2%) with uterine preservation and 25 (56,8%) with vaginal hysterectomy.

Objectives: To correlate the visual estimated blood loss (vEBL) with the calculated estimated blood loss (cEBL) during delivery in nulliparous women. Design: Correlation retrospective study. Setting: Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. Study material: Medical records. Methods: We reviewed 225 medical records of at term nulliparous patients’ vaginal deliveries attended between July and December 2009. Main outcome measures: Correlation between visually estimated and calculated blood loss. Results: Mean vEBL and cEBL were respectively 285.70 ± 82.77 mL and 534.75 ± 367.58 mL. Hematocrit descended 3.8%. There was a significant underestimation between vEBL regarding cEBL in episiotomies (p=0.0000) and 3th and 4th degrees lacerations. The Spearman correlation coefficient for vEBL and cEBL was 0.06 (p=0.31). Conclusions: No correlation was found between vEBL and cEBL. Visual e...

Objective: To compare Ayre spatula and cytobrush methods in uterine cervix premalignant and malignant lesions detection. Material and Methods: Endocervical smears taken from 140 patients with the Ayre spatula and cytobrush methods were extended on separate codified slides and examined by two different pathologists unaware of the smear collection method. Bethesda system was used for diagnosis. Results: Sixty-five versus thirty-five per cent of the samples had endocervical cells respectively obtained with the cytobrush and the Ayre spatula method. When analyzing the quantity of endocervical cells, the samples obtained with the cytobrush method had more than five clusters of endocervical cells (71,4%) than with the Ayre spatula method (36,4%). Conclusion: Cytobrush method seems to be more efficient than Ayre spatula method for obtaining endocervical cells.

In a study of 160 cases shows that the Hydrochloride promazine (*) is a valuable new agent, associated with other drugs known action in analgesic therapy delivery, it potentiates the effect and acts as an excellent sedative and anti -emético without interfering with the normal progress of labor not mean risk to the mother or fetus. Because in the case of deeply sedated gilts lack of cooperation is seen during the second stage, the use of this drug is not recommended except in specialized hospital environments where you can count on, if necessary, with their own resources to resolve a any extension of that period.

Retrospective study Cayetano Heredia National Hospital between January 1991 and April 1993 in 972 products evaluated by ultrasound. The objective was to determine the accuracy of ultrasound level performed in the second trimester, in the detection of neural tube defects in the general population. To do ultrasound findings correlate with the clinical evaluation of the newborn. A detection rate of neural tube defects in 90% (96/100), specificity of 99.6% (958/964) false positive rate of 30% (4113) and false negative rate of 0.1 was found % (1959). 100% of anencephaly is detected.
