Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the association between Red Blood cell Distribution width and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: We conducted a hospital-based case-control study. Adult patients (≥ 18 years old) with the diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy who underwent medical check-ups at the ophthalmology department where enrolled in our study. We selected a total sample size of 262 patients, of which 131 cases had Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and 131 controls had Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy. Data about age, gender, body mass index, history of hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, Congestive heart failure, Hemoglobin and HbA1c were registered for individuals who met inclusion criteria. Odds ratio model was used to test the relationship between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Proliferative Diabetic Re...

Objective: To determine the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease and bronchial asthma in the pediatric population of the National Children's Hospital Breña headquarters between the years 2017-2018. Methods: An analytical observational study of cases and controls was not matched, with a ratio of 1 case to 2 controls, with a total of 45 cases and 90 controls, a simple random probability sampling was performed, with a retrospective collection for the variables bronchial asthma, GERD, GERDinduced esophagitis, prematurity, interrupted breastfeeding, sex and age. A bivariate and multiple logistic regression model was performed to obtain the Odds Ratio for the strength of association. Results: A statistically significant difference was found for GERD (p = 0.002), being 33.33% and 11.11% for cases and controls, as well as for interrupted lactation (p = 0.013); by multiple logist...

Objectives: to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6 months of life and bronchial asthma in the pediatric population at the National Police Hospital in 2016. Materials and methods: an analytical observational study of cases and controls was not matched. ratio 1 case for 3 controls, with a total of 53 cases and 159 controls, a simple random probability sampling was performed, with a retrospective collection for the variables exclusive breastfeeding, Prematurity, sex and age. A bivariate and multiple logistic regression model was performed to obtain the Odds Ratio for the strength of association. Results: being 24.53% and 44.65% exclusive breastfeeding for cases and controls, a statistically significant difference was found (p = 0.009). By multiple logistic regression analysis exclusive breastfeeding (OR 0.41, p = 0.014, IC 0.20-0.84) show...

Sturge Weber syndrome (SSW) is characterized by the classic involvement of sporadic neuro-oculo-cutaneous vascular malformations, the pathophysiology of which to date has not been fully elucidated. The discovery of both an arterial and venous molecular profile in the endothelium present in vascular malformations, together with vascular atresia zones distal to the ectatic zones, have led to questioning the embryological theories put forward for decades, to explore the molecular and genetic characteristics in the affected tissue. Currently, a high prevalence of somatic mutation in the GNAQ gene has been reported in the affected tissues of patients with SSW, which encodes an alpha subunit of a Gq protein, whose signaling cascade stimulates cell proliferation, which may be responsible of the sustained growth of malformations in the three mentioned regions. The present study aims to explain th...

Maintaining a good sleep quality is a basic human need, because the poor sleep is associated with negative effects such as exhaustion, uncontrolled emotions, the inability to concentrate, the inability to remember or think clearly, poor university and work performance, psychological and academic stress, anxiety, depression and difficulty in resolving problems; also long-term effects such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type II, obesity, cancer, among others.

Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (MCVAP), formerly known as congenital cystic adenomatoid pulmonary malformation (MAQP), belongs to the group of congenital pulmonary malformations, representing 95% of these. It is characterized by varying degrees of respiratory distress according to the level of the airway that compromises the injury and may be incompatible with life until it goes unnoticed until early adulthood. Advances in molecular biology have discovered that there is an imbalance between proliferating and apoptotic genes within these lesions, disrupting the segmentation of the bronchial tree, triggering the formation of these lesions. On the other hand, advances in fetal ultrasound have allowed 50% of cases to be detected from fetal life, causing these children to have their lesions removed during the first weeks of life and their improved life prognosis. This literary ...
