Odontogenic myxoma is a locally aggressive benign neoplasm with a low prevalence (frequency 2% to 5% of odontogenic tumors) in the jaws. This tumor often presents as an asymptomatic expansive lesion without sensory nerve changes. The aim of this study is to detail the case of a 42-year-old male patient who attends the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service of the Hipólito Unanue National Hospital due to a slow-growing tumor in the upper jaw, which increased in size over time and displacing dental organs, and extending to the hard palate and part of the soft palate, the pathological diagnosis was odontogenic myxoma and received radical treatment (hemimaxilectomy) due to the aggressive nature of the tumor. In this work we discuss the presentation of odontogenic myxoma in the maxilla, treatment approaches; detailing the importance of proposing treatment alternatives that allow immediate re...

Objective: To determine the relationship between effective time of surgery, with the factors of difficulty for the extraction of mandibular third molar. Materials and Methods: The study was descriptive. 30 extractions were evaluated by a maxillofacial surgeon. The parameters taken were: space, depth, spatial relationships, size of the follicle, and the integrity of bone and y mucosa, and form roots. We calculated the frequencies of the variables and covariates. It continues with a bivariate analysis using Pearson correlation coefficients, relating the time with all the variables. Results: The average time of third molar extraction was 9.63 min. It was found more frequently Class II, Level B, mesioangular position, size of follicle from 0 - 1 mm., completely covered by mucosa and partly by bone and the most common form of the roots were 2 / 3 combined and more than 2 / 3 apart. Conclusion...

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic mycosis caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, with a high incidence in Brazil and Latin America. The disease is clinically, classified in a juvenile - acute form and a chronic adult form. The primary lesion starts in the lungs through the inhalation of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis through the respiratory tract. It may spread hematogenously and lymphatically to other organs, as well as the skin and mucous membranes. Skin and mucosa manifestations are characterized by the formation of granulomatous lesions, organized according to the type of host¨s pattern of immune response. People that works in agriculture and lives in rural areas are considered high risk of infection group. The diagnosis is based on direct identification of the fungus with the microscope, culture or histology sample of the clinical specimen. In addition, mol...

The odontoma is a benign tumor that comes from an alteration of differentiated epithelial and mesenchymal odontogenic cells capable of forming enamel, dentin and cement. The etiology is unknown, but it has been associated with infections, inherited abnormalities, odontoblastic hyperactivity and trauma. To small or average odontoma size, the acceptable treatment is tumor exeresis. The problem arises with large odontomas, whose removal involves the sacrifice of large amounts of bone, the potential for mandibular fracture and damage to the inferior alveolar nerve. To avoid these treatment complications, Rittersma and Van Gool introduced in 1979 the use of the sagittal-cut osteotomy technique of mandibular ramus. We report the case of a 37-year-old male patient, with no contributory systemic history, who presented increased volume of left side face associated with pain and purulent secretion...

Introduction: Necrotizing fasciitis is a serious infection that involves the skin, the subcutaneous tissue, and the superficial-deep fascia, it progresses very quickly, and if not treated in time it can cause death. Report case: We present the case of an adult patient with a history of anemia, who was diagnosed with odontogenic necrotizing fasciitis, for which she underwent surgery and underwent intraoral and extraoral drainage plus escharectomy. In addition, pharmacological treatment (intravenous antibiotics) was administered, and an amniotic membrane was placed as a dressing material to reconstruct the hemorrhagic surface left by the necrotizing fasciitis. Conclusions: The amniotic membrane as a dressing material presented favorable results in the patient, obtaining a rapid regeneration of the sequel produced by necrotizing fasciitis.
