Primero, quiero congratular a quienes han organizado esta convocatoria y agradecerles por haberme traído aquí para hablar sobre la colonialidad y la descolonialidad del poder. Cuando propuse a quienes me invitaron,abrir el debate sobre la descolonialidad del poder, esto implicaba admitir de que hay una nueva cuestión en el debate actual, sobre todo en las ciencias sociales, pero no solo en las ciencias sociales. Esa nueva cuestión es, realmente, un mazo de cuestiones, algunas pocas de las cuales trataremos ahora de explorar.

La obra de Aníbal Quijano tiene una vital trascendencia para el Perú y América Latina, para la comprensión del mundo y las causas de la crisis de civilización que enfrenta la humanidad. Esta es una noche memorable para la Universidad Ricardo Palma, para la Cátedra América Latina y la Colonialidad del Poder y para la intelectualidad peruana, que está sentida por el fallecimiento del doctor Orlando Plaza.
