The First International Meeting of Institutes of Tropical Medicine, held in Lima, was the main event of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Daniel A. Carrion (1963-2013), Faculty of Medicine at UNMSM. The major Peruvian scientific institutions for research and management of global health burdens affecting tropical and subtropical regions participated in the organization of this event. About one thousand people attended. Topics included child health in the tropics, international health, HIV/AIDS, dengue, malaria, leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, Carrion's disease and emerging diseases. Representatives of the nine institutes of Tropical Medicine of the region who attended the event signed a declaration in which all represented institutes agreed to promote in their respective countries the recommendations of the World Health Assembly and the Pan Ameri...

A study about the evolution and main characteristics of scientific articles related to research conducted in Peru publish both in national and, international journals between 1985 - 1993, was made. We identified 2412 scientific articles published in 32 national journals, and 297 articles in 134 international journals. There was found that national journals had published sporadically, and the amount of articles increased only 12% in 8 years. In addition, the autor’s features, the type of scientific articles and the topics studied, are described. Finally some explanations about the factors associated to evolution and characteristics observed, are given.

Introduction. In our country changes are taking place in the structure by age in the last decades, one of the most important is the increase of the older adult population. Objectives. To determine the perception of living a successful aging and identify some variables associated with this perception in the elderly teachers of the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Methods. Cross-sectional and correlational study. Sample of 106 older adult teachers selected for convenience, from september to november 2017. The Successful Aging Inventory of Meredith Troutman was used by the author. Results. Objectives: The study aims to estimate the prevalence and associated factors of depression in the peruvian older adults using the results of the Demographic and Family Health Survey 2014-2015 (ENDES). Design: The study was observational, transversal and analytic. Institution: UNMSM. Participants: Olders adults. Interventions: Probabilistic sample of 11411 older adults who participated in the ENDES 2014-2015. Main Outcomes: Prevalence estimates, means, standard deviations and OR with 95% confidence probability and p-values. Results: Depression prevalence was estimated as 14%.
