Introduction: Hip fractures are a pathology of traumatic origin that generates a high impact on public health. The objective is to evaluate the interobserver reproducibility of the Tronzo classification for intertrochanteric fractures. Methods: Observational, analytical and retrospective study carried out in Ibagué - Colombia, 48 hip radiographs were analyzed, classified by 10 observed among specialists and training personnel, using the Tronzo classification. Interobserver reproducibility is assessed using the kappa concordance coefficient. Results: Among all those observed in the study, there is greater agreement in the identification of intertrochanteric fractures of lesser and greater severity (Tronzo I and V), the main exponents of this agreement are the most experienced staff, the staff in training, with intermediate experience they agree when identifying those of intermediate seve...

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is common in dogs with degenerative valvular disease (DVD) and is caused by an increase in left atrial pressure and pulmonary venous pressure. Cardiac catheterization is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of PH. Tricuspid regurgitation (TR), measured by Doppler echocardiography, is commonly used in the clinic to determine the pressure gradient (PG) of TR reflecting pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PAP). For the characterization of the echocardiographic parameters of pulmonary pressure in canines with DVD, 161 echocardiographic cases and the respective clinical histories of the patients admitted to the Veterinary Cardiology Unit of the city of Bogotá in a period of 8 months (November 2016 - June 2017) were evaluated. All patients diagnosed with DVD were grouped within the classification of the American College Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACV...

This study describes and compares the key structural units present in water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) fraction of atmospheric aerosols collected in different South American (Colombia – Medellín and Bogotá, Peru – Lima, Argentina – Buenos Aires, and Brazil – Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Porto Velho, during moderate (MBB) and intense (IBB) biomass burning) and Western European (Portugal – Aveiro and Lisbon) locations. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy was employed to assess the relative distribution of non-exchangeable proton functional groups in aerosol WSOC of diverse origin, for the first time to the authors’ knowledge in South America. The relative contribution of the proton functional groups was in the order H-C > H–C–C= > H-C-O > Ar-H, except in Porto Velho during MBB, Medellín, Bogotá, and Buenos Aires, for which the relative contribu...

Introduction and Aim: Suicide and harmful alcohol consumption are major health problems, especially in medical students. This study aimed to evaluate the association between risk for alcohol abuse and suicide risk in medical interns of Peruvian hospitals. Design and Methods: We conducted a multicentre cross-sectional study in medical interns from 18 Peruvian hospitals. We measured suicide risk, risk for alcohol abuse, depression and self-esteem using the Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale, CAGE, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, respectively. We used χ2 and Student t-tests for descriptive analysis. To evaluate the association between risk for alcohol abuse and suicide risk we generated crude and adjusted Poisson regression models with robust variance and estimated prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results: We surveyed 433 medical interns. The pre...
