Neurofibromas are benign tumors of frequent presentation in the head and neck. We report the case of a 14 years old male who presented a cervical tumor 14 cm in length. Despite the size of the tumor and the fact that it displaced the cervical midline structures, the patient remained asymptomatic. The pathology report following surgery was of a neurofibroma. On discharge there were no motor limitations present, but loss of soft palate sensitivity and nauseous reflex, and the previous Horner syndrome. Surgery is the gold standard treatment and total resection is ideal, but debulking is preferred according to the neurofibroma characteristics. Neurological deficit could be expected.

Introduction: Osteomyelitis is a picture of casual presentation, resulting as a complication of various etiologies and requires immediate surgical and medical treatment. Objective: To evaluate the results of pathology-level reported as osteomyelitis of the jaws in pediatric patients , both the jaw and the upper jaw, which required surgical treatment and antibiotic coverage, for the period from 2008 to 2013. Material Methods: Study descriptive, retrospective , held at the National Institute of Child Health Results : predominance was found in males ( 64.7 %) and higher filing under 10 years of age (91%), the mandible was more frequently affected (92.1 %) with a predominance of chronic osteomyelitis in 82.4 % of cases . The region of the mandibular body and angle were the most affected with 75 and 62.5 % respectively. All patients were performed surgical cleaning and removal of sequestra wi...

A 22 years old male was referred to emergency for a gunshot trauma that involves the inferior third of the face with extension to the both submandibular and submental regions. The patient presented at the inferior half of the mandible, bodies and symphysis, a comminuted mandible fracture and two displaced fractures at the upper half of the mandible; though no teeth were missing. He underwent at emergency an open reduction and osteosynthesis with wires. A polyetheretherketone (PEEK) computer designed implant was placed to replace the lost bone tissue and restore the facial aesthetics. The PEEK implant is actually a new, simple and versatile method for complex mandibular reconstructions.

Introducction: mandible reconstruction, an important area within heat and neck surgery, is atopic with constant innovation with plenty of debate and scientific contributions that allow physicians to have adequate therapy for extensive tumors that may leave aesthetic and functional sequels.Clinical cases. The cases that underwent a large surgical resection and required a microsurgical fibula free flap for a mandible tumor were reviewed between January 2004 to August 2008; by the Head, Neck and Maxillofacial Surgery department at the National Pediatric Health Institute. Four cases were taken part in the study period; with same quantity of cases for males and females. With ages between 2 and 17 years, and an average of 11.2 years. The four cases were from the inner states of Peru (Piura, Tumbes, Cajamarca and Junín). We present mandible resections as long as 15 cm for one side. A...

Goldenhar syndrome is the second most frequent craniofacial malformation; occur sporadically or as an autosomal-dominant inheritance that involves derivatives of the first and second branchial arch. Furthermore, an association with exposure to different drugs and maternal diabetes has been described. Main features are eye conditions, headphones (ear, pinna) and vertebral, hence its nickname spectrum oculo-auriculo-vertebral. We report the case of a girl of eight years old with multiple congenital anomalies by a multidisciplinary study will highlight the clinical features suggestive of this syndrome. The results were satisfactory for the patients, it was dental treatment and hard tissue distraction osteogenesis of the mandible at the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño.

The word 'ankylosis' is derived from ancient Greek, meaning 'a rigid joint', in this case associated to an impediment for progressive mouth opening, as a consequence of a fibrous, bony, or mixed tissue junction between the mandibular condyle and the mandibular fossa. This condition may occur as a sequel of mandible and face trauma, infectious diseases, or as a manifestation of chronic diseases leading to joint damage. This limitation in mouth opening may lead to poor oral hygiene, dental cavities, dental and facial deformities, and obstructive sleep apnea. Surgical therapy is mandatory in such cases, and there are many procedures described in the literature. Our objective is to show our surgical experience in 5 selected patients who were operated in our institution on the basis of the current surgical protocols.
