Breast cancer consists of a heterogeneous group of tumors with different features, biology and treatments. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been associated with an aggressive cellular behavior, resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy in many types of neoplasms, and a strong correlation between prominin-1 (CD133) expression in cancer stem cells from different types of cancer exist. A discussion is presented on recent immunotherapeutic strategies that target CD133 in breast CSCs. Furthermore, it is suggested that immunotherapy targeting CD133 breast CSCs and/or in combination with other current treatments result in a better outcome. © 2016 Sociedad Mexicana de Oncología.

Se trata del caso de una paciente mujer de 70 años con antecedente de aneurisma cerebral y gastritis por Helicobacter pylori. Dos semanas antes del ingreso presenta diarreas recurrentes, dificultad para deambular y desorientación en espacio-tiempo. Al ingreso al hospital presenta fatiga, debilidad, palidez, dolor abdominal tipo cólico y parestesia. Después de algunos exámenes auxiliares se diagnosticó Anemia Megaloblástica por deficiencia de vitamina B12 asociada a gastritis crónica, por lo que se inició tratamiento con hidroxicobalamina vía intramuscular y luego, con valores normales de hemoglobina, se siguió tratamiento con vitamina B12 por vía oral. In this context, a balanced production line is required to prevent high waiting times due to limited productive capacity. A well-balanced assembly line allows products to be produced in an optimum time while using less resources, such as machines, materials, or labour, since the right number of products is produced with the exact amount of resources, thus generating savings in production costs.
