In this workshop we will share a proposal for teaching quadratic functions whose correspondence rules contain parameters in their mathematical expression and certain conditions that their range must fulfill. We will use GeoGebra as a support tool for the validation of the parameter values obtained in the algebraic process. This workshop has two purposes, the first is to propose problems with context in which the solutions involve real numbers, and the second is to present to teachers the potential of GeoGebra to validate algebraic processes. Likewise, we are interested in generating a space to discuss the advantages and disadvantages offered by GeoGebra tools in the verification of results obtained algebraically and to reflect on its incorporation in our classes. As for the didactic analysis, aspects of the Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers are taken. In relation to the methodo...

In integral calculus, we find that understanding three-dimensional solids defined by cross sections is a significant challenge for university students. This difficulty is related to limitations in spatial visualization, in the articulation of different registers of representation, in determining the function that corresponds to the cross-sectional area, among others. One of the main cognitive barriers identified in the specialized literature is the difficulty in imagining the solid generated by cross sections, which makes it difficult to have a deep understanding of the calculation of the volume of said solid. The aim of this workshop is to use the GeoGebra software as a tool to facilitate the construction, exploration, and analysis of solids generated by elementary cross sections. The workshop is aimed at higher education professors or future secondary school teachers with a minor in Ma...

This investigation tries to identify risk factors for tubal infertility. The authors studied 400 cases attended at María Auxiliadora Hospital. We selected 284 cases with sufficient information, 112 had tubal infertility and 172 had infertility by other factors. When the authors compared both groups, they found that abortion, induced abortion, PID, endometriosis and pelvic surgery were more frequent in patients with tubal infertility. Conclusion: The authors recommend that physicians adopt preventive reproductive measures in postpartum and postabortion complications, STD (PID included) and pelvic surgery.

Mathematical optimization is a recurring theme in professional careers such as mathematics, engineering, and economics. Using the notion of didactic suitability of the EOS theoretical framework, the main objective of this research is to assess the didactic suitability of an instructional process on the optimization of real functions of two variables in Economics students. In this qualitative research, the reference meanings of the partial derivatives involved in optimization problems are identified, indicators of didactic suitability are adapted in their six facets, and the instructional process implemented by the teacher is analyzed by comparing it with the suitability indicators. The conclusion is that the observed teaching process largely complies with the proposed indicators, particularly in the epistemic and cognitive facets, which makes it a suitable process, considering some aspec...

OBJECTIVE: To determine menopausal women's knowledge, use and reasons for nott using HRT MATERIAL AND METHODS: Epidemiologic descriptive cross-sectional study through a semiestructured questionnaire applied to 500 middle-class women 45 through 65-year-old, with high school or superior education. RESULTS: Women were either house wives, office workers, managers or professionals; 68,4% had sometime talked about climacteric and menopause with their doctor, 11,6% said they knew much about HRT 76,5% knew only little and 12,7% did not know about HRT Information was mainly given by gynecologists, and by social media in 17,8%. Tablets and injectables were presentations most frequently known. In women that knew about HRT 58% said it improved depression and mood, 52,8% bot-flushes, 22% vaginal diyness, 51% osteoporosis and 25% myocardial infarction. Only 19,6% currently used HRT 26,8% said thay use...

OBJECTIVE: To determine maternal mortality during the last 10 years and establish its tendency, causes and patient characteristics. DESIGN: Epidemiologic, retrospective, descriptive and analytical study. SUBJECTS: 121 maternal deaths occurred at our Hospital between January 1988 and June 1997. RESULTS: Maternal mortality rate was 250,18/100 000 live newborns. Main characteristics were age 20 to 24 (44/36,6%), secondary education (45/48,4%), stable union (45/49%), term gestation (33/34,3%) and less than 20 weeks (28/29%). Only 28% (34) had any prenatal control. Most deaths occurred at postpartum (62/51,2%) and 31,3% (33) were primiparae; 84 (69,4) died by direct obstetrical cause and 36 (29,8%) by indirect causes. Main causes of death were preventable. Most frequent indirect cause was tuberculosis (14/11,6%); 65 (53,7%) died after 48 hours from hospitalization. CONCLUSIONS: Our maternal m...
