The aim of the study was to compare three doses of eCG associated with a short heat synchronization protocol in hair sheep. A total of 48 ewes were oestrous synchronized with intravaginal sponges impregnated with medroxyprogesterone acetate inserted for a period of six days. Upon removal of the sponge, a prostaglandin F2α analogue was applied. The animals were randomly divided into four groups: Control (without eCG) and T1, T2 and T3 with the application of 100, 250 and 400 IU of eCG, respectively. Oestrous detection and mating were made with four males of recognized fertility. The pregnancy diagnosis was made on day 60 after mating by transrectal ultrasound. The interval to heat and the rates of presentation of oestrous, pregnancy and prolificacy were determined. The interval of the onset of oestrous was shorter in T3 (...

The unpaired image-to-image translation consists of transferring a sample a in the domain A to an analog sample b in the domain B without intensive pixel-to-pixel supervision. The current vision focuses on learning a generative function that maps both domains but ignoring the latent information, although its exploration is not explicit supervision. This paper proposes a cross-domain GAN-based model to achieve a bi-directional translation guided by latent space supervision. The proposed architecture provides a double-loop cyclic reconstruction loss in an exchangeable training adopted to reduce mode collapse and enhance local details. Our proposal has outstanding results in visual quality, stability, and pixel-level segmentation metrics over different public datasets.

The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of the disinfection of irrigation water loaded with the plant-parasitic nematode Meloidogyne incognita using a solar photoreactor. The photoreactor was comprised of a compound parabolic concentrator and a disinfection chamber made of boro-silicate glass where a static mixer coated or uncoated with TiO2 was installed. Water loaded with M. incognita was exposed to solar radiation within the reactor and recirculated while accumulated ultraviolet (UV) energy was registered. It was determined that an accumulated UV solar energy of 72 kJ/L inhibited the motility of juveniles while accumulated energy of 215 kJ/L was necessary to inhibit the egg hatching. Plants of lettuce irrigated with the treated water showed significantly less nodulation, higher air-dry weight and root dry-weight compared with the control group. No significant difference...

Chagas disease is a trypanosomiasis disease inflicted by Trypanosoma cruzi parasite. In Latin America, at least 10 million people are infected and annually, 10,000 casualties are deplored. Macrophage infectivity potentiator protein is one of the major virulence factors secreted by T. cruzi (TcMIP) in order to infect its host but little is known about its mechanism of action. Studies confer TcMIP an important role in the extracellular matrix transmigration and basal lamina penetration. Here, we report the backbone 1H, 13C, and 15N resonance assignment of TcMIP and the comparison of the secondary structure obtained against reported X-ray crystallography data.

Chitosan is a biodegradable, antibacterial, and nontoxic biopolymer used in a wide range of applications including biotechnology, pharmacy, and medicine. The physicochemical and biological properties of chitosan have been associated with parameters such as the degree of polymerization (DP) and the fraction of acetylation (FA). New methods are being developed to yield chitosans of specific acetylation patterns, and, recently, a correlation between biological activity and the distribution of the acetylated units (PA: pattern of acetylation) has been demonstrated. Although there are numerous well-established methods for the determination of DP and FA values, this is not the case for PA. The methods available are either not straightforward or not sensitive enough, limiting their use for routine analysis. In this study, we demonstrate that by applying HOmodecoupled Band-Selective (HOBS) decou...

Spherical titanium barium nanoparticles with an average size about 100 nm in the tetragonal crystal phase were obtained by peroxide synthesis. To prevent their agglomeration and reduce the toxic effect, the surface of nanoparticles was chemically modified with sodium oleate and chitosan. Influence of surface modification by these compounds on agglomeration of nanoparticles in aqueous solutions, their spectral features, as well as generation of the second optical harmonic were investigated.

Nanocomposite in the form of a porous matrix SiO2 with average pore size of 320 nm filled with barium titanate nanoparticles in paraelectric cubic phase was obtained. Shift of the stretching vibration of Si-O-Si to higher frequencies caused by increased strengthening of the network in the matrices has been observed. Also demonstrated that decrease in the intensity of the absorption relating to Si-O(H) stretching vibration relative to Si-O(-Si) stretching vibration. Raman scattering spectra demonstrate the presence of both a cubic and a tetragonal ferroelectric crystalline phase in the filler nanoparticles. Thus, the mechanical deformation of nanoparticles in the pores of the matrix can lead to a change in the crystalline phase of the filler. © 2020 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Two powerful instruments -the human gonadotropin and clomiphene-- citrate are at our disposal for the induction of ovulation period in all patients who show an anovulatory period of central origin: psychogenic, neurogenic and pituitary. These drugs must not be used without a prior study of the etiology excluding not only the peripheral fault OVO rich but also the end-organ failure. They are not used in cases of amenorrhea due to intermediary causes as chronic diseases, metabolic diseases -tiroides, adrenol, pancreas and nutritional conditions factors. To avoid complications that are polycystic ovaries and multiple pregnancies, one has to use the minimum effective dose. This dose is, to some extent, based on a single criterion. If these precautions are taken properly, one can expect to improve the outcome of difficult cases such as amenorrhea caused by neurogenic factors and pituitary, hy...

The berry of Physalis peruviana L. (Solanaceae) represents an important socio-economical commodity for Latin America. The absence of a clear phenotype renders it difficult to trace its place of origin. In this study, Cape gooseberries from eight different regions within the Peruvian Andes were profiled for their metabolism implementing a NMR platform. Twenty-four compounds could be unequivocally identified and sixteen quantified. One-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey test revealed that all of the quantified metabolites changed significantly among regions: Bambamarca I showed the most accumulated significant differences. The coefficient of variation demonstrated high phenotypic plasticity for amino acids, while sugars displayed low phenotypic plasticity. Correlation analysis highlighted the closely coordinated behavior of the amino acid profile. Finally, PLS-DA revealed a clear separation amon...

The bipedicled Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap, originally described and primarily utilized in autologous breast reconstruction for specific cases, has expanded its applications to encompass diverse anatomical regions in recent years. This report presents the case of a 69-year-old woman with a recurrent giant thyroid tumor who underwent surgical resection, resulting in a large cervico-thoracic defect effectively reconstructed using a bipedicled DIEP flap. The patient's postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the follow-up assessments revealed a healthy, well-perfused flap that provided sufficient coverage to critical structures, adequate restoration of the region contour, and enough volume to offset potential adverse effects of subsequent radiation therapy. In addition, this report incorporates a concise literature review highlighting the expanding indications of the b...

The fruit of Vanilla planifolia is broadly preferred by the agroindustry and gourmet markets due to its refined flavor and aroma. Peruvian Vanilla has been proposed as a possible source for genetic improvement of existing Vanilla cultivars, but, little has been done to facilitate comprehensive studies of these and other Vanilla. Here, a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabolomic platform was developed to profile for the first time the leaves – organ known to accumulate vanillin putative precursors – of V. planifolia and those of Peruvian V. pompona, V. palmarum, and V. ribeiroi, with the aim to determine metabolic differences among them. Analysis of the NMR spectra allowed the identification of thirty-six metabolites, twenty-five of which were quantified. One-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey test revealed that these metabolites changed significantly among species, whilst multivariate-a...

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the world's most important crops, but it is facing major challenges due to climatic changes. To investigate the effects of intermittent drought on the natural variability of plant morphology and tuber metabolism in a novel potato association panel comprising 258 varieties we performed an augmented block design field study under normal irrigation and under water-deficit and recovery conditions in Ica, Peru. All potato genotypes were profiled for 45 morphological traits and 42 central metabolites via nuclear magnetic resonance. Statistical tests and norm of reaction analysis revealed that the observed variations were trait specific, that is, genotypic versus environmental. Principal component analysis showed a separation of samples as a result of conditional changes. To explore the relational ties between morphological traits and metabolites, correla...
