Objectives. To evaluate the effect of Myrciaria dubia (camu camu) flour on liver tissue induced to acetaminophen toxicity in mice. Methods. Experimental design. A suspension of camu camu flour (HCC) with 1.6% starch was prepared. 40 male mice of the BALB/c strain were used, with an average weight of 30.8 g and two months of age, which were divided into five groups, receiving the following treatment, orogastric route, for a period of 10 days, groups I and II: 1.6% starch 10 mL / kg; group III: HCC 200 mg / kg, group IV: HCC 500 mg / kg and group V: HCC 800 mg / kg. On the 6th day of treatment, acetaminophen (300 mg / kg) was administered to groups II-V until the 10th day. After the intervention, the animals were fasted for 12 hours, to then be sacrificed after anesthesia with sodium pentobarbital. The liver was removed, the greater lobe was identified and sectioned for biochemical and his...

Objetive: Evaluate the relationship between the type of feeding and the degree of NEC in premature infants at Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital, between 2015-2021. Methods: The study was observational, cross- sectional and retrospective. The clinical records of 81 patients were reviewed. The degree of NEC, the type of feeding (breast milk, formula and mixed), the volume at the beginning of the feeding and the volume of the food at the beginning of the NEC were extracted. Spearman's test was applied with a significance level of 0.05. Results: 39.5% of the patients received breast milk, grades I and III of NEC reached 37%. The feeding before day four was 77.8%. The volume of food obtained from the NEC (formula and mixed feeding), presented with the degree of NEC (Rho: 0.608 and 0.526 respectively: p<0.05), while the starting time for breast milk had a moderate impact with the...

Objective: To evaluate the association between food anxiety and glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb) among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated at a medical center in Lima in 2023. Materials and methods: This was a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlationalcausal study conducted in 2023. The sample consisted of 122 participants, comprising adults of both sexes, aged between 40 and 59 years, diagnosed with T2DM, who had undergone laboratory tests for glycosylated Hb within the past three months and who signed an informed consent. Those who had other comorbidities or were undergoing psychological treatment were excluded. Food anxiety was assessed using the Food Cravings Questionnaire–Trait instrument, which categorizes food anxiety into two levels: low (≤ 126 points) and high (> 126 points). Glycosylated Hb levels were measured through laboratory tests and...

Objective: To determine the protective effect of the aqueous extract of the pods of Caesalpinia spinosa (Molina) Kuntze “tara” in the gastric mucosa of experimental animals. Design: Experimental. Institution: Research Center on Biochemistry and Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Biological material: Aqueous extract tara pods (AETP) and 36 albino male rats (217g ± 22 g). Interventions: After a 24-hour fast, the albino rats were divided into 6 groups: GI and GII, NaCl 0.9% to 20 mL/kg; GIII, GIV and GV, AETP at doses of 100, 400 and 800 mg/kg respectively; and GVI, Hidroflat 500 mg/kg. An hour later, gastric injury was caused with 70° ethanol and then gastrectomy was performed. Main outcome measures: Percentage of mucosal protection, using the software ImageJ 1.48v, and the antioxidant activity method 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (...

Background: There are therapeutic alternatives in Peru with empirical native products such as potato juice. Objectives: To assess the antioxidant capacity and the gastric mucosa cytoprotection effect by Solanum tuberosum juice. Design: Experimental. Institution: Research Center of Biochemistry and Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Biological materials: Solanum tuberosum, tomasa variety, and male albino rats. Methods: Oral solid fractions of supernatant and sediment from Solanum tuberosum juice were administered to fasting rats and an hour later, alcohol was given for gastric injury; gastric tissue was obtained by laparotomy. Oxidative stress was measured in the gastric mucosa by lipoperoxidation, formation of mucus by alcian blue, and the extent of protection by measuring lacerated areas in scanned image. Main outcome measures: Antioxidant capacity...
