Objectives: To determine preliminary results of pregnancy rate per transfer in patients undergoing intravaginal oocyte culture-intracytoplasmatic sperm injection (INVO-ICSI) at a fertility center. Design: Descriptive, series of cases study. Setting: Procrear Fertility Center, Lima, Peru. Participants: Couples with infertility treatment. Interventions: Thirteen INVO–ICVSI performed in 12 patients from December 2011 through July 2013 were reviewed. SPSS program was used. Main outcome measures: Pregnancy rate. Results: Women’s average age was 35.38 years ± 3.35 and were seeking pregnancy 2.25 years ± 1.88 average. Infertility was due to male factor in 46.2% and to female factor in 53.2%. Embryo transfer was done in all cycles and 5 pregnancies were obtained (38.46% of cycles), 3 singleton (60%) and 2 double pregnancy (40%). Conclusions: INVO-ICSI fertilization rate was comparable and ...

Objective: To determine the diagnostic sensitivity of transvaginal ultrasonography and sonohysterography compared with hysteroscopy in patients with infertility. Design: Descriptive study. Setting: Procrear Fertility Clinic, Lima, Peru. Participants: Women with infertility. Methods: Between January and December 2 013 patients studied for infertility underwent surgical hysteroscopy; corresponding transvaginal ultrasound and hysterosonography prior to surgery were analyzed for most frequent diagnoses and sensitivity of the studies. Analysis was done using SPSS 15 software. Main outcome measures: Sensitivity of hysteroscopy, transvaginal ultrasound, and hysterosonography. Results: One hundred and eighteen surgical hysteroscopies were performed. Prior transvaginal ultrasound had sensitivity of 44.9% (53/118) for any abnormalities in regards to hysteroscopy, and sonohysterography had sensitiv...

Objectives: To determine the heterologous intrauterine insemination (H-IUI), rate of pregnancy by using embryo transfer cannula. Design: Retrospective study. Setting: Procrear Fertility Center, Lima, Peru. Participants: Couples in infertility treatment. Interventions: All H-IUI procedures using sperm bank donor semen from 2007 through September 2010 were studied, all performed by the same gynecologist and the same biologist. IUI was performed using Frydman-Soft embryo transfer cannula with guide following cervix measurement by ultrasound. Rate of pregnancy per cycle and per patient was analyzed as well as factors associated with pregnancy. Epi Info 3.5.1 was used for statistical analysis. Main outcome measures: Pregnancy rate. Results: Thirty H-IUI proceedings were performed in 26 patients with average age 32.6 ± 5.5 years (range: 20-41 years), 40% over 35 years. Pregnancy rate was 40% ...

Introduction: Congenital anomalies and acquired diseases of the uterus have been obstacles for successful treatment of infertility. The uterine cavity is where the embryo normally implants. It is important a proper evaluation of the uterine cavity to rule out or detect changes that may affect implantation. Hysterosonography is a diagnostic method used in the evaluation of the uterine cavity. The most common indication for sonohysterography in patients with infertility is suspected intrauterine pathology. Objectives: To describe routine sonohysterography findings in an infertile population, with or without suspicion of endometrial pathology, in relation to patient’s age. Design: Descriptive retrospective study. Setting: Clínica Procrear, Lima, Peru. Participants: Women in evaluation for infertility. Methods: Between January and April 2013 hysterosonography was performed in 305 patients...

The case of an infertile 22 year-old woman with 3 years of cohabitation and history of menarche and premature ovarian failure (POF) at age 15 is presented. Secondary sex characteristics were normal, FSH was 69 mIU/mL, LH 21.5 mIU/mL, estradiol 5 pg/mL, normal thyroid profile, prolactin 0.22 ng/mL, glucose and insulin within normal limits; no alterations of the pituitary gland were detected by magnetic resonance. Karyotype was 46, XX. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a 46 x 20 x 25 mm hypothrophic uterus, endometrium 2.2 mm, hypotrophic ovaries. Administration of estradiol valerate/dienogest enlarged uterus to 69 x 22 x 33 mm (in one month) and 72 x 24 x 30 mm (in one year). Husband’s sperm count was 55.6 million/mL, progressive motility 24%, normal morphology 4%, and DNA fragmentation 14.2%. Autoimmunity and FMR-1 gene were not studied. Egg donation-ICSI-annexin column were performed obt...
