Background: The clinical course of Pick´s disease (PD) is similar to that of Alzheimer´s disease (AD). Clinical cases: We present the clinical course and CT-scan findings in 3 patients (two sporadic cases and one familial case) diagnosed with PD. Results: The course of this disease was characterized by the following: 1) behavioral and personality changes; 2) progressive impairment of recent memory; 3) sex disturbances and /or appetite increase; 4) upper cortex dysfunction; 5) motor, sensorial and sphincter control worsening, and 6) posture and gait impairment, as well as prostration. Brain tomography studies demonstrated atherosclerosis at the supraclinoid segment of carotid arteries and its branches, and also moderate or severe atrophy in both prefrontal and anterior temporal lobes. Introduction: In August 2009 we performed surgery for the first time in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALE). However, every published report about ALE mentions there is no cure for this condition. Objective: To prove that the progression of ALE may be stopped and the condition may be improved using an epiplon transplant. Material and Method: This report presents our experience with 13 ALE patients, affected by the bulbar and spinal forms of the disease. During the surgical procedures, we made the following findings: 1) anatomical variants in the V4 segment of vertebral arteries, 2) moderate or severe atherosclerosis in both V4 segments, 3) some circumflex blood vessels originating from the low-flow anterior and ventral spinal arteries, 4) hypothrophy of small nerve roots in the pathway of IX, X, and XI cranial nerves, 5) in some cases, hypothrophy of the anterior surface o...

Introduction: Since 1990, we have postulated that the primary cause of Parkinson´s disease (PD) is of ischemic origin initiated in the mesencephalic tegmentum. However, up to date, almost all researchers consider that the etiology is unknown. Objetive.To demonstrates that PD can be improved by means of omental transplantation. Material and Method: We present 3 patients with advanced PD. Through a temporal craniotomy we located the carotid bifurcation and anterior perforated space (APS). Here we found: 1) atherosclerosis at the supraclinoid carotids; 2) absence of anterior choroidal or posterior communicating arteries; 3) several exsanguine anterior and posterior perforating arteries,and 4) atherosclerosis at the basilar bifurcation. Sr. Editor: En un reciente artículo de revisión titulado "hipertensión arterial resistente"1, el autor la define como aquella que a pesar del tratamiento médico con tres o más drogas diferentes y a dosis óptimas, la presión arterial no puede ser controlada o se mantiene por encima de los niveles establecidos de normalidad. Además, informa de dos métodos quirúrgicos utilizados actualmente para reducir los niveles de hipertensión arterial: 1) Ablación de los nervios simpáticos renales1, 2 y 2) la estimulación eléctrica crónica de los baro receptores carotídeos3. Sin embargo, no se mencionan otros aportes quirúrgicos previos, en la lucha en contra de la hipertensión arterial esencial (HAE).

Since 1978, clinical uses within the central nervous system have been found for omentum tissue, particularly in patients with ischemic conditions and/or ischemic penumbra. Omental tissue, one form of white adipose tissue (WAT), has some features that distinguish it from other WAT depots in other areas of the body. It is the best adipose tissue for developing vascular connections with surrounding tissue, and through these newly formed arterial blood vessels, nervous parenchyma may receive nutrients, oxygen, neurotransmitters, neurotrophic factors and stem cells. Moreover, the amount of adherent scar tissue in the omentalnervous system interface is minimal.

Antecedentes: El curso clínico de la enfermedad de Pick (EP) es similar a la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA). Casos clínicos: Presentamos el curso clínico y los hallazgos tomográficos en 3 pacientes (dos casos esporádicos y un caso familiar) con diagnóstico de EP. Resultados: El curso de esta enfermedad estuvo caracterizado por:1) cambios de conducta y personalidad, 2) deterioro progresivo de la memoria reciente, 3) disturbios sexuales y/o aumento del apetito, 4) disfunción cortical superior, 5) empeoramiento motor, sensitivo y esfinteriano, y 6) deterioro de la postura, marcha y postración. Clinical case: A 26-year old woman had a 6-month history of motor and sensorial loss in her right foot and leg after undergoing a hip replacement surgery. Two electro-diagnostic studies revealed absence of nerve conduction in tibial, fibular, and sciatic nerves. Six moths afterwards, the patient underwent an omental transplantation in the damaged area of the right sciatic nerve. Results: Neurological improvement occurred from the second day after surgery. Nowadays, two years after surgery, the patient has mild to moderate paralysis and hypoesthesia in her right foot and leg. The patient is able to walk using orthopedic support. Conclusion: These results indicate that with this surgical approach we may be able to get over the sequels caused by ischemia and/or trauma in the sciatic nerve; and probably this may also apply to the brachial plexus.

El proyecto de investigación se realizó con la finalidad de experimentar el comportamiento de las cenizas de hojas de pino en reemplazo del cemento para poder determinar sus características de compresión. Se realizó el análisis Térmico Diferencial (ATD) para poder determinar el grado de calcinación y el tiempo de quemado de las cenizas, se mandó una muestra de cenizas a la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniera UNI para determinar la composición química de las cenizas de hojas de pino, posteriormente se realizaron todos los análisis de los agregados en la Universidad San Pedro, para luego realizar el diseño de mesclas para nuestro patrón y experimental respectivamente. Luego de realizar el ensayo de compresión axial de nuestro patrón como de los experimentales de 4% y 7%, los resultados fueron que al incorporar la sustitución del 4% de cenizas de hojas de pino, se obtiene una...
