Se exploró la comprensión lectora inferencial en dos muestras de estudiantes recién ingresados a dos universidades de Lima, una estatal y otra privada. Se identificó el papel de variables grupales y las dificultades que ofrecen textos como los de corte científico y humanístico para la comprensión lectora. Las categorías de competencia lectora halladas mostraron la prevalencia de lectores dependientes en los textos básicos informativos, documentarios y numéricos y de lectores deficitarios en los textos literarios, humanísticos y cientificos. Los resultados indican la responsabilidad de la educación secundaria en las carencias lectoras del recién egresado y la responsabilidad de la universidad que debe desarrollar programas de apoyo y consolidación de las competencias lectoras.

First year college students were assessed in three areas of mathematical competence: logical operational schemes, algorithmic and circle abilities and reading ability of mathematical problems. Group factors were analyzed and a profile developed between achievers and underachievers. Three needs common to both groups were identified: in formal logical operations, probabilistic, combining and distributive weaknesses; in calculus, weak metacognition due to poor anticipatory estimations, and in the reading of problems, difficulty finding the relevant statements.

Se ha explorado 62 estudiantes universitarios en la comprensión de tres tipos de texto: narrativos, argumentativos y expositivos. Se utilizó un instrumento que aplica la técnica de neologismos para medir el rendimiento diferencial en los tres tipos de superestructura textual. Se halló que el tipo de texto que presenta mayor dificultad es el expositivo, siguiéndole el argumentativo y el narrativo. Se da una explicación evolutiva a este resultado. Además se ha encontrado que factores muestrales como género, edad, tipo de estudio, rendimientos tanto escolares como de ingreso a la universidad, y el nivel educativo de los padres no presentan diferencias significativas entre sí. Finalmente, la técnica de neologismos probada presenta un buen nivel de confiabilidad y validez.

This article analyzes the interpretations of video game female characters residing in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico. A qualitative study was carried out from the perspective of cultural studies, for which fifteen players were interviewed about their tastes and opinions about female video game characters. It was found that most of the gamers hold critical positions towards sexualized female characters and that, in general, they accept and prefer female characters from Nintendo video games such as Mario Bros and Pokémon, franchises that gave them the first opportunities to play with feminine characters. On the other hand, it was found that mothers and other women in the family environment played an important role in the childhood of the interviewees, as mediators in their contact and love for video games. This paper analyzes morphosyntactic strategies that encode evidentiality and epistemic modality in eastern and western Toba (Formosa, Argentina), from the functional typological perspective (Chafe 1986; Bybee et al. 1994; Givón 2001; De Haan 2001, 2005; Aikhenvald 2004; etc.). In eastern Toba, a reportative derived from a grammaticalyzed ‘say’-verb, and the use of two epistemic adverbs –ʔegoʔ~ʔekoʔ ‘apparently’ and yataqta ‘certainly’– are described. In western Toba, demonstrative roots plus the prefix ho-, after the modified element (noun, verb, adverb, or clause), are analyzed as a strategy of encoding epistemic modality, specifically low subjective certainty.

En este trabajo analizamos distintas estrategias morfosintácticas de codificación de evidencialidad y modalidad epistémica en toba del este y del oeste de Formosa, Argentina, desde la perspectiva tipológico-funcional (Chafe 1986; Bybee et al. 1994; Givón 2001; De Haan 2001, 2005; Aikhenvald 2004; etc.). En toba del este, se describe un evidencial de tipo reportativo a partir de una forma fosilizada del verbo ‘decir’, y el uso de dos adverbios de modalidad epistémica: ʔegoʔ~ʔekoʔ ‘parece que’ e yataqta ‘es cierto’. En toba del oeste, se analiza el uso de las raíces demostrativas más el prefijo ho-, pospuestas al elemento modificado (nombre, verbo, adverbio, o cláusula), como una estrategia de codificación de modalidad epistémica, específicamente de baja certeza subjetiva.

This paper aims to identify the reactions that the assassination of General René Schneider, which took place in Chile in 1970, provoked in the Spanish press of the time. Based on a historiographic analysis of newspaper sources, periodicals were reviewed, considering their circulation criteria, national projection and relationship with a political tendency. In this descriptive review of sources, it was possible to identify that the way of approaching this evento was influenced by their editorial lines.

The role of the cultural capital of migrant students in technical and vocational secondary education in northern Chile and its influence on academic success are examined. A qualitative research approach was used (interviews and focus groups). A profile of migrant students characterized by their effort, discipline, and good performance was identified. It is argued that their cultural diversity could be an asset that provides them with access to resources and opportunities and facilitates recognition by teachers. The findings underscore the need to integrate this cultural capital into educational policies, thus promoting inclusive and quality education.

Se examina el rol del capital cultural de los estudiantes migrantes en la educación media técnico profesional en el norte de Chile y su influencia en el éxito académico. Se utilizó un enfoque de investigación cualitativo (entrevistas y grupos focales), identificándose un perfil del estudiantado migrante caracterizado por su esfuerzo, disciplina y un buen rendimiento. Se sostiene que su diversidad cultural podría ser un valioso capital que les brinda acceso a recursos y oportunidades, y les facilita el reconocimiento por parte de los docentes. Los hallazgos subrayan la necesidad de integrar este capital cultural en las políticas educativas, promoviendo así una educación inclusiva y de calidad.

El Síndrome de Treacher Collins es una malformación craneofacial autosómica dominante (STC) que se presenta cuando el gen TCOF1 (5q32-q33.1) sufre una mutación. Su incidencia se estima en 1/50,000 nacidos y presenta manifestaciones en tejidos blandos y duros. Métodos: Seis individuos diagnosticadoscon STC, remitidos de la Asociación Treacher Collins México AC, para la realización de estudios imagenológicos prequirúrgicos. No previous studies were carried out on aspects of the helminth assemblages of Seriolella porosa. The present study aims to analyze the metazoan parasite of S. porosa and establish the relationship between the parasitic variations and both fish size and sex. A total of 101 specimens of S. porosa from San Matías Gulf, Argentina were examined between September and October 2006. Thirteen species were reported with a total of 3366 parasites. Lecithocladium cristatum was the most prevalent, dominant and abundant species. The average species richness was 3.2 ± 1.20. The evenness showed an inverse correlation with the total number of parasites and did not reveal differences between host sexes. The study is qualitative, employing interpretive techniques in order to explore the representations around the evaluative practices. Information gathering was established through in-depth interviews. The results reported that the main issues identified were a dynamic conception of learning, a complex look at evaluation that includes attitudinal values and a representation of the teacher as an agent that makes institutional evaluation criteria more flexible in response to learning objectives.
