La situación actual. Desde 1551, año en el que se creó la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, el número de universidades en el Perú creció progresivamente, hasta alcanzar en 1996 un total de 59 universidades, de las cuales 31 son privadas y 28 públicas (Asociación Nacional de Rectores, 2012). A partir de la aprobación del Decreto Legislativo 882 por el Congreso de la República con fecha 9 de noviembre de 1996, orientado a promover la inversión privada en educación en un contexto de demanda creciente de postulantes, se produjo un crecimiento notable del número de instituciones de educación superior universitaria, llegando a 143, 92 privadas y 51 públicas, en el 2018 (Superintendencia Nacional de Educación Superior Universitaria, 2018).

As part of the efforts to prioritize lines of research in the field of higher education in Peru, the project Improvement of Higher Education Quality (PROCALIDAD) convened management specialists and members of academia to create working groups. After the presentation of a characterization of the general problem in this field, a debate was started, and this concluded in the preparation of a joint proposal for a research agenda, which prioritized certain lines such as (a) the need for articulation between basic and higher education for a generation of competencies in the applicants; (b) the need to emphasize the teaching professional career aimed at improving the quality of educational institutions; (c) the need to seek alternative financing mechanisms involving the private sector; (d) the need for greater clarity in existing regulations and standards, and (e) the need to foster the connect...

Background: Peru has increased substantially its domestic public expenditure in maternal and child health. Peruvian departments are heterogeneous in contextual and geographic factors, underlining the importance of disaggregated expenditure analysis up to the district level. We aimed to assess possible district level factors influencing public expenditure on reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health (RMNCH) in Peru. Methods: We performed an ecological study in 24 departments, with specific RMNCH expenditure indicators as outcomes, and covariates of different hierarchical dimensions as predictors. Como parte de los esfuerzos de priorización de líneas de investigación en el ámbito de la educación superior en el Perú, el Proyecto Mejoramiento de la Calidad de la Educación Superior (Procalidad) convocó a especialistas en gestión y a miembros de la academia para la conformación de mesas de trabajo.
