Objective: to identify the drug interactions present in the prescriptions filled by patients with Parkinson’s disease from the service of the home care program. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, retrospective cross-sectional study was designed. Results: The review of 548 filled prescriptions was carried out, 439 (80.1%) presented drug interactions, where the male sex and the age group of ≥ 80 years predominated and the most frequent comorbidities were arterial hypertension, chronic gastritis and heart failure. From the review of 439 filled prescriptions, 943 drug interactions were found. Carbidopa/Levodopa presented a higher number of drug interactions. The predominant drug interaction mechanism was pharmacodynamic (413) and according to the evaluation of the prescriptions filled through Drugs.com and classified under the Stockley Alerts criteria, 764 (81.0%) were found to ...

In the present study was determined the antibacterial activity of the phenolic compounds of the ethyl acetate fraction isolated from Persea americana Mill. seed "Hass avocado". The avocados were harvested in the province of Huanta and the seeds were subjected to an ethanolic extraction process, degassed with petroleum ether and finally extracted with ethyl acetate. The phenolic compounds were isolated by thin layer chromatography and identified by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method was used using the strains of Escherichia coli ATCC 35218; Which were tested at concentrations of 1, 2,5, 5, 10 and 15%; ciprofloxacin 30 μg was used as the control. The ethyl acetate fraction showed phenolic compounds and flavonoids, showed an antibacterial activity of 81,5% inhibition at 10%; minimum inhibitory concentration of 0,625 mg/mL and minimum bactericidal concentra...

The present research work was carried out with the aim of determining the hepatoprotective effect and antioxidant activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of the fruit of two varieties of Opuntia megacantha “tuna”, purple and orange. The total phenol content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and the flavonoids by the aluminum chloride method. Antioxidant activity by the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP methods; and the hepatoprotective effect by means of an in vivo test in 2-month-old albino rats, weighing between 200 ± 20 g, randomly distributed in seven groups of 5 animals each, which received: group I (physiological serum), group II ( CCl4), group III (silymarin), groups IV and V (extract of purple prickly pear at 250 and 500 mg/kg), groups VI and VII, (extract of orange prickly pear at 250 and 500 mg/kg). In blood serum, the activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine a...

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the hypoglycemic and antioxidant activities of the alcoholic extract of the fruit of Morinda citrifolia (noni), in normal rats and induced to type 2 diabetes mellitus by alloxan. For the Glucose Tolerance Test were used 56 rats were distributed into seven groups of eight each; one group without hyperglycemia induced and the remaining with hyperglycemia induced by glucose (750 mg/kg). To evaluate the action of the extract in rats induced with diabetes, we used seven groups of six animals each; one group without diabetes and the remaining with diabetes induced by alloxan (80 mg/kg). The determination of the antioxidant activity in vitro and in vivo was performed by the neutralization of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) and by measuring the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO), respectively; finally was hist...
