Objective: to identify the factors related to living alone and the magnitude of its effect on the adult population over 60 years old living in community in the city of Bogotá. Methods: cross-sectional study with secondary analysis of the Health, Well-being, and Aging Survey (SABE) - Bogota 2012. Measurements of central tendency were calculated, the means were compared with Student's t-test, the final model was adjusted for age, gender, and the odds ratios (OR) and their CI 95% were calculated to estimate the power of the relation. Results: out of the 2,000 people who participated in the SABE survey, 252 (12.6%) lived alone. The average age was 71.32 years; 64.68% were women (n = 163). The average schooling was 6.19 years (SD 0.31). When making the bivariate analysis, a statistically significant relation was found between living alone and being independent for basic and instrumental acti...

Objective: To identify the factors associated with the categories of loneliness among the elderly population attendingday care centers in Bogotá, Colombia.Materials and methods: An analytical, cross-sectional and quantitative study was carried out to measure the lonelinessamong older people attending a day care center in the city of Bogotá between November 2020 and June 2021 usingthe ESTE scale. To meet the objective, a univariate descriptive statistical analysis was performed, such that, for thequantitative variables, the mean with standard deviation or median with interquartile ranges were used, in accordance with the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, and for the categorical variables, absolute frequencies and proportions wereused. The bivariate analysis was conducted using Student’s t-test and chi-square test (p < 0.05), which contributed tobuild a logistic regression model with...

Objective: To characterize the geriatric patient profile and identify the mortality-associated factors in a population over 80 years hospitalized with COVID-19 infection in the geriatric ward of a university hospital in the city of Bogotá.Materials and methods: An analytical observational retrospective cohort study based on chart reviews was conducted. The study included patients over 80 years with confirmed COVID-19 infection from March 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021. The dependent variable was mortality and the independent variables were age, clinical factors, baseline characteristics and paraclinical status. Results: Two hundred eighty (280) patients with a median age of 84 years, most of whom were overweight, were identified. The most frequent symptom was cough followed by dyspnea. Out of all patients, 60.3 % presented lymphopenia and elevated D-dimer levels (> 1,000 μg/L), and mos...

Objective. To describe the factors associated with amputations in the Colombian elderly population (>60 years) as evaluated in the 2015 SABE Survey with its possible adverse health related outcomes. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional, retrospective and analytical study consisting of a secondary analysis of the SABE (Health, Well-being and Aging) Colombia 2015 survey. Excluding factors were people who required a substitute informant during the interview, people without amputations and those with upper and lower limb amputations simultaneously. The dependent variables were the adverse health outcomes in older people with amputations (depressive symptoms, mobility problems, poor self-perception of health, disability discrimination, falls in the last year, whether or not help was needed in the last fall, and hospitalizations in the last year). Both descriptive and bivariate analysis a...

This article describes the cementation process of leached solutions from copper sulphide ores being and without being toasted. With favorable results in this study, we get the pattern for the feasibility of moving from the classical technology of concentration to the technology of cementation of copper sulfide minerals containing silver and gold. Simulation steps have been performed considering the different variables involved in the process such as time, agitation, solution concentration, pH and others. A kinetic model of copper cementation from PLS solutions purified by Solvent Extraction (SX) has been developed and it has the following form: C = 6.08 exp (- 0.03 t) Recoveries were obtained greater than 90% copper, which gives the possibility to improve the costs of national ores and con- centrates, as well as to open a favorable scenario for new national metallurgical projects.
