We describe the case of a male patient aged 17, Lima student who had no history of known tuberculosis contact, nonreactive HIV ELISA, diagnosed 21 days befote admission with active pulmonary tuberculosis, sputum smear 3 +, who was started with first line antituberculosis drugs. He was admitted to the hospital for pleural chest pain of sudden onset, and moderate dyspnea; on physical examination there was abolition of vocal vibrations, absence of breath sounds and hyperresonance in right hemithorax, compatible with pneumothorax on that side. Chest radiograph showed significant pulmonary collapse in the right hemithorax. Chest tube and water seal drainage were placed and he continued specific treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis. A 52 year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of large pericardial effusion and symptoms of recurrent hypoglycaemia. He had no history of smoking or diabetes mellitus and was taking no medication. Diagnostic pericardiocentesis was performed and 1 430 mL of bloody-stained fluid was obtained. The exudate showed neutrophils positive to adenosin deaminase (ADA) test. Chest X-ray and computed tomography showed a left lung hilar mass resembling a lung neoplasm, with pleural and pericardial effusion. It was a lung cancer of unusual presentation, with pleural and pericardial metastasis and a paraneoplastic syndrome characterized by recurrent hypoglycaemia as initial manifestation.

Extreme rains have been observed in the north of Peru, the impact of these rains over the present infrastructure in the cities is important, this due to the high vulnerability of the zone. The events happen mainly in summer. Therefore, fourteen cases of extreme rain have been selected, those that registered during the December and March of 2001 and 2002. In the present research an evaluation of the numerical rain simulation is made in north of Peru. Use a regional model atmospheric call RAMS (Regional Atmosphere Modeling System). It has been implemented in the North zone of Peru using the nesting technique to reduce the resolution. Research on fortifications and military architecture is quite scarce, efforts to interpret and reconstruct these spaces, in the cases where physical evidence of their existence have been lost, are so as well. The purpose of this paper is precisely to show what is a presidio, as well as the spaces and activities that constituted said structure. This is achieved through a historical and a virtual reconstruction, where the latter is carried out through an architectural survey. Hopefully, it will revalue these edifices and perhaps, in the future, we will put forth a proposal that the fortifications of the Camino Real north of Tierra Adentro be declared cultural heritage, in the category of military or fortified heritage.

This research aims to determine the contribution of private schools to socioeconomic school segregation in Peru and its departments. A microdata mining is carried out of the National Student Assessment for the 2nd year of Secondary School, in such a way that it works with 631 013 Secondary School students, distributed in 17 310 educational services in the 25 departments. A greater segregation was found in the group of students with fewer resources, in terms of private school; while for those with greater resources, segregation is greater in public schools, although this segregation is considerably less. In both groups there are important differences between departments.

Purpose: This paper aims to investigate the relationship between legitimate and expert social power types of preadolescent children on the influence perception in their mothers’ purchasing behavior in Peruvian toy stores. The literature review takes into consideration the concepts of social power and the influence on family behavior to then focus on social power within family behavior with the purpose of mainly developing four hypotheses regarding purchasing behavior. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology followed a non-experimental transversal correlational-causal design. A pilot sample size of 67 cases was used. Sacha inchi Plukenetia voluvilis L., is a species native to and promising cultivation in the Peruvian Amazon, which has nutritional properties (omega 3) beneficial for the human body., therefore the interés of studying and evaluating the shelf life under partular conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the viability of sacha inchi seeds, stored in a cold chamber, with moisture contents between 4.0 and 6.8%, for eigth years. 27 accessions of Sacha inchi were used, the seed of which were partially and completely scarified, and were soaked in distilled water for 12 hours, then disinfected with 3% captan (fungicide). La epidemia de cólera en el Perú aparece casi simultáneamente en varias ciudades de la costa a fines de enero de 1991. Aunque la fuente de origen permanece oscura, la rápida diseminación a varias ciudades costeras lejanas entre si, sugiere un vehículo de transmisión a través de la distribución y expendio de alimentos sin las condiciones de higiene recomendadas por las autoridades de Salud (1). Desde entonces, una intensa y sostenida diseminación ha ocurrido en varias ciudades afectando sobre todo a la población económicamente deprimida. La enfermedad se expande a fines de febrero a la sierra andina, y a fines de marzo a la selva así como a países limítrofes tales como Ecuador, Colombia, Brasil y Chile.

La Alfabetización Mediática e Informacional (AMI) se considera una competencia necesaria para la ciudadanía en las sociedades democráticas. Recientemente, ha incluido en su foco la desinformación, el discurso de odio o la ciberseguridad. Entre sus metodologías innovadoras, destacan la gamificación y el learning by doing. En esta investigación, casi 300 jóvenes catalanes de entre 14 y 18 años participaron en un juego de roles virtual, asumiendo el papel de eurodiputados y eurodiputadas. Se les realizaron encuestas previas y posteriores, centradas en sus conocimientos y actitudes sobre desinformación, instituciones europeas y valores democráticos. Major tourism destinations depending on iconic resources to draw tourists are seeking to diversify their offerings. Building upon neolocalism, craft-beverage tourism has emerged as a diversification strategy. Such a strategy requires establishing a vibrant craft-beer industry that, according to the resource partitioning theory (RPT) requires applying four mechanisms (location, anti-mass production sentiment, customization, and conspicuous status). Since it is unknown how the RPT unfolds in tourism destinations, we interviewed 21 producers in Cusco (Peru), a major destination with an emerging craft-brewery industry, to identify the strategies they are utilizing to position their products when juxtaposed with tourism and neolocalism. The objective of this study was to develop a concept and model of tourism companies’ competitiveness applicable to the Peruvian context, starting from a theoretical reference and including the perspective of managers and leaders in the public and private sectors. Through the application of qualitative research methods (workshop and in-depth interviews) and a participatory action research approach, this study succeeded in integrating the perspectives of different actors into the theory. Furthermore, this study identified the factors that favor or hinder the peruvian tourism companies’ capacity to reach competitiveness and the actors that could promote it.

El presente trabajo presenta la realización de un injerto en bloque de hueso autólogo para la posterior colocación de un implantedental óseo integrado, en el sector anterior del maxilar superior en un paciente varón. Este procedimiento fue realizado enla Clínica de la Maestría en Periodoncia de la Universidad de San Martín de Porres. Se realizó el injerto en una primera cirugíay la zona donadora elegida fue el mentón. El periodo de espera para la segunda cirugía, en la cual se colocó el implante, fue decuatro meses. Debido a que el paciente presentaba bruxismo, se decidió aplicar la carga protésica de manera diferida. El pacientefue evaluado durante un periodo de seguimiento de un año, manteniendo el implante en perfectas condiciones.Palabra clave: injerto, transplante.
