Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of the neurological test (NT) and the arterial test (AT) according to the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) guidelines in the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD), respectively, using variables such as sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), positive predictive value (PPV), and positive likelihood ratio (PLR) in type 2 diabetic patients attending the primary health care. Materials and methods: One hundred (100) type 2 diabetic patients were chosen from the public primary health care system, and evaluated by a primary physician in a private diabetic foot unit. The NT was represented by the tactile-vibratory sensitivity and the AT by the ankle-brachial index according to the IWGDF guidelines. They were compared to standard neurological and arterial tests cal...

Objetive: Determine the characteristics and level of satisfaction of parents using pediatric teleconsultation during the COVID-19 pandemic, treated at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray The sample was made up of 273 parents to whom a user satisfaction survey was conducted by telephone, which consists of 15 questions that were answered based on the Thurstone scale. Results: the level of satisfaction was distributed as high (34.1%), medium (55.3%) and low (10.6%). Most of the patients belonged to the age group of 0-4 years (54.9%), male (54.2%) and resided in the province of Trujillo (67.8%). The parents were mainly aged between 30-39 years (45.8%), were female (90.5%) and had a higher level of education (60%). Teleconsultations had chronic diseases as the main reason for consultation (63.4%), lasted >10 minutes (76.9%), and prescriptions were issued in half of the cases (50.2%). Conclusion:...

Objective: To determine the relationship between carbon dioxide gradient/arteriovenous oxygen gradient index and lactate in patients with pneumonia complicated by septic shock in areas delivering care for critically ill or injured patients of the Hospital III EsSalud Chimbote between 2018 and 2019. Materials and methods: A quantitative, observational, correlational, longitudinal trend study. The study population consisted of patients with pneumonia complicated by septic shock who had carbon dioxide gradient/arteriovenous oxygen gradient index and lactate readings. Results: Ninety (90) patients with pneumonia complicated by septic shock participated in the research. The present study showed a robust relationship between gas gradient index and serum lactate when monitoring patients at baseline, 3 hours, 6 hours and 12 hours. Conclusions: There is a relationship between carbon dioxide gradi...

Introduction: Small fibers diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN-sf) are diagnosed by biomedical vasomotor tests whose foundation is altered skin thermoregulation. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence and factors associated with DPN-sf using thermographic imaging (TI).Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, analytical study was performed in a specialized unit in the primary care setting, in which patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were assessed by peripheral neurological tests such as tactile and vibratory sensitivity for the diagnosis of large fibers peripheral neuropathy (DPN-lf) and passive thermoregulation by TI for DPN-sf .The latter was performed on the sole using a thermographic camera in the outpatient clinic, evaluating 5 plantar thermographic measurements per subject. Then, the association between diabetics with and without DPN-sf was analyzed concerning gender, age, tim...

Infodemia is the information epidemy associated to fear, speculation and rumors, amplified and transmitted rapidly by modern information technologies and that negatively affects society. Its association with the 2019 Coronavirus Disease pandemic is not exclusive, as it had already been described with the Coronavirus-1 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome pandemic in 2003. This false or misleading information may cause public reluctance widespread adoption of infection control measures promoted by health authorities, and thus delaying essential recomendations. The World Health Organization (WHO), in its eagerness to counteract, has established the WHO Information Network to Epidemics.

Methods: Analytical, cross-sectional research with non-experimental design. There was a population of 325 students of the professional career of medical technology and a sample of 169 students of both sexes. Body mass index and waist circumference diameter were used to calculate overweight and obesity. The associated factors were determined by means of a survey validated by expert judgment. Results: 49.1% of the students were overweight or obese, with females being the most affected. Of overweight or obese students, 59.0% were at high risk of abdominal obesity. According to eating habits, 97.6% of young people ate ...

Introduction: Currently, the impact of COVID-19 on sociodemographic and obstetric factors, linked to nutritional status and anemia in pregnant women, represents a significant change in management and healthcare paradigms. Objectives: To consider a multiple logistic regression model and multiple comparisons (Mann-Whitney U test) based on sociodemographic-obstetric factors, nutritional status and anemia in pregnant women before and during Covid-19. Methods: In this study, 113 medical records of pregnant women attended between November 2019 and April 2020 at a Hospital II-1 in Trujillo, Peru were analyzed. Multiple logistic regression model showed a good fit and allowed to correctly classify most of pregnant women. Results: The covariates; employment situation, obstetric history, nutritional condition and anemia were significant. Differences were observed between sociodemographic factors su...
